  1. Somewhere in the Cool Cache Containers thread http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=62421 there is a fellow that made something like it. You might be able to contact him for plans. The thread is up to 56 pages so it may take a while to get thru it to find the post you are looking for.
  2. Now, Decon Containers (M258A1 'Military Decontamination Container'; speakin' Jargonese) are in fact a dying breed. The newer versions come in a sealed plastic packet sort've like an envelope. Rip or cut open, & she's fini! The only place I'd been able to find 'em was my local Army Navy Surplus (Pappy's)....and they say they haven't had any in nearly 2 years. I do have a source online, but now at $9.99 + S&H, EACH - well, I can get two .50-cal ammo cans cheaper than that! Insofar as ammo cans....does anyone think for a skinny second the military isn't shootin' up plenty of rounds right here in the good ol' USofA? Horsehockey! Re the 'CheaperThanDirt' squeeze-play: I think we oughta get a posse up & call 'em on it. If they can't find a source, maybe I need to come out of retirement from Purchasing & Materials Management & send 'em my resume! ~* http://store.colemans.com/cart/container-d...ml?currency=USD has them at $9.95 for 4. I recently bought from them and they arrived pretty fast. Maybe this will help if you want some.
  3. My spousal unit and I are both in our upper fifties, me = 58, spouse = 57. We got into this about three months ago to get out of the house and get some exercise. We cache with our daughter and 4 year old granddaughter. So far we have limited our hiking to caches of 1/2 mile or less since the granddaughter gets tired on those over a mile long. She just loves to find treasure and it warms us to our innards when she does. Me with a bad ankle, knee and hip from "jumping outta airplanes" while in the 82d Airborne Division, and spousal unit with two bad knees, the hikes have been limited so far. As we get better at this, the hikes will increase in difficulty and length. For those of you familiar with the summer temps in AZ, you can understand why we will do most of our hiking in the spring and fall seasons. Yea, I know, it's a dry heat. We both carry collapseable walking sticks, not so much for the terrain, but to get a head start on the rattlesnakes we have here.
  4. I have found that the compass points in the direction that the Bearing in the top box tells me the cache lies and is not the most accurate. I find it far easier to use a lensatic compass based on the bearing from my location as indicated in the bearing box. Always takes me to the cache. It you are directionally challenged, I strongly suggest you get one or a good Boy Scout Compass.
