  1. Ross, That is fantastic! I tried it on my unit and it works great. Thanks again for taking the time to help me. I'm just curious how you created the application? Regards, Kevin
  2. Ross, Will it work with an eTrex Legend too? Or does it have to be a color GPS for the application to work?
  3. RWS, Thank you! But how did you do it? What converter did you use?
  4. I'm trying to put WMA boundaries on my eTrex Legend via MapSource. Here is what I have done: 1. Download KY WMA Boundaries at: http://fw.ky.gov/kfwis/google/GoogleEarth.asp (Ky Public Hunting Areas.kmz) 2. Unzip the kmz file and extract the kml file using Winzip. I've tried converting the resulting kml file using several different programs (GPSBabel, GE2GPX, etc.) and they all produce output that consists of hundreds of "tracks" that are composed of a single coordinate for each WMA. I don't get it, because in Google Earth the WMA boundaries are perfect. Any ideas?
  5. Thanks to everyone who took the time to offer advice. I will check out all the units and make my decision, and send my request to Santa. Have a great Christmas everyone!
  6. I need recommendations for a GPS unit for use while hunting and backpacking in remote areas. I have a Garmin StreetPilot i2 for in the car, so I don't need anything with those features. My main goal is to return to my vehicle at the end of a long day (or weekend) in the woods. I also want to be able to save a route to a favorite spot so I can return later using the same route. Also want to be able to dump the route to my PC so I can see where I've been. Are there other features I should be looking for? Maybe something with topo maps? Also would like to spend under $200.00. I can live without color. Any suggestions? TIA.
  7. Oh great....another activity to get involved in. On my way home from work today I stopped at Wal-Mart and found a Magellan GPS310 on clearance for $19.00. I know it doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but I figured the price couldn't be beat for getting me started. I found my first cache tonight. The kids went with me and we had a great time together. So, I am hooked. This gadget is pretty neat; very easy to use and accurate enough. It got us to within about 30 feet of each of the two parts of the cache. I can see me upgrading at some point, but for now, this works fine. Thanks for your help. Now, where to hide MY first cache...
  8. Does the Magellan have nautical charts too? I do some boating and that would be a nice feature. How much detail does the Magellan have?
  9. I am thinking of getting in to this sport. I have an opportunity to buy a brand new Lowrance iFinder (Basic) for $100.00. Is it worth this much, or is there another brand or model in the same price range that would give me more bang for my $? Thanks in advance for your advice. -Instructor
