  1. Hi all,

AFAIK one gets nominated to become a reviewer.

What can I do to get nominated  ? I really want to get some responsibility...

    Regards,

    SH

It's like becoming a Free Mason, you don't ask to become one, they ask you, then it's all done in secret.

  2. I really do it just to support the site. I am more into placing caches than seeking them. Some caches that I place I make them PMO to keep the traffic down, some are 5/5's that are not for everyone. PMO's seem to get muggled less, weeds out some of the geocoin snatching newbies.

  3. Konnarock Kid & Marge have some of the best earthcaches in my area, I enjoy all of their caches, the one in question is really funny. If I am reading this thread correctly I do not understand what a moderator for a Groundspeak Forum in Pa. has to do with any of this unless it is somehow a personal issue. We have great local reviewers that do a wonderful job and are very helpful to me if I ever have a question. I'm at a loss of understanding....? Anyone out there that does not have a very extended elaborate vocabulary that I can understand in plain "Virginia country boy" english care to try and explain this one to me?

Keystone can correct me if I have misunderstood the situation.

In plain language, it appears Keystone had someone attempting to submit a cache that violated the ALR portion of the guidelines.

That cacher then sited a few existing caches as evidence that his cache should be allowed.

    Keystone checked the caches mentioned.

This cache was found to be in violation of the ALR portion of the guideline.

Keystone posted a note on the cache concerning the issue.

The owner posted a note, but did not change the listing.

The local reviewer then disabled the cache listing until the change was made.

The cache owner then made the change by adding a few words in red letters.

That's the way I read the situation.

It seems to me that Keystone alerted the CO as he should have and then allowed the local reviewer to take over from there. It also seems to me that Keystone did not single this cacher out. Quite to the contrary, it appears to me that another cacher pointed the CO's cache out to Keystone.

I do not see Keystone on a witch hunt to ruin the CO's fun. I see the CO ruining his own cache by made a big stink instead of just making a minor change and bringing his cache into compliance.

O.K. That's another thing that I did not understand, that the moderator is also a reviewer. That's what I was missing, thanks. :D

  4. O.K. I have a better understanding of it now. I think that I just saw the corrected verision of their cache.

Is there such a thing as a challange cache that promises a reward of a special path tag after finding and logging say 15 of 20 cache placements, but there are never the required number of caches placed, so no one gets the said prize, would this type cache be considered an ALR cache? The reason that I ask this is because I am currantly involved in two caches of this type in my area now. Thanks.

  6. You are completely correct.

However, if you have caches hidden the best thing is to forget the NA notes.

    I have caches hidden.

I would not for one moment consider avoiding the proper use of a tool because it might make some nutjob mad and he'll go after my caches.

I'm fairly good at irritating folks, though never by design or intent. I wouldn't dream of going around on tiptoes scared something I do or say might upset a whacko.

Live scared like that and you make yourself hostage to the imagined whim of a minute lunatic fringe.

    Call yourself lucky.

Its not about being scared, it's about doing what is the least problematic, like contacting the reviewer directly instead.

Exactly. You would think that geocachers with 5000+ finds that host events would be more civil when it comes to understanding and playing by the rules, other than make-up their own.
  7. I posted a needs maintance about a month ago on cache GC9718 which is missing and got some PM's from some locals telling me to leave things be that they wanted the cache to stay because of it's age, being one of the oldest in the area. The CO is no longer a registered user and does not geocache anymore. One of the local cachers has reaveraged the coordinates and replaced the old cache container over six months ago and has offered to maintain it. It is in a good location and others are interested in placing a cache near the site. I don't want to post a needs archived because I have already upset some users with the needs maintaince log, which another user posted a needs maintance log a long time ago, seems they had the same thing happen to them with the locals. Is there any way to adopt a cache like this one and leave the pictures and posts so that no one gets upset?

Still no communication from this vendor.

I did not have any luck with the BBB, so I filed a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). Any help from anyone that feels that they have been a victim also will be appreciated. Just send me a PM with a name and contact, or may I suggest that you file a complaint also. Thank you.

Vendor has not or will not communicate.

Well, TnT Geocoins website has dissappeared, along with our cash. I am still waiting to hear from the BBB, they have sent a second notice to the business, as they did not respond to the first. I don't think the people at www.quilttrail.org (as the Follow the Quilt Trail geocoins bear this inscription on them) are very happy with Tracy either.

    Ordered by: J 'N' K - "Not yet received"

Last email received 03/14/2009 entitled "DELAYS AND CATCHING UP" said " To those who have ordered the new quilts, I have them back going and should be

here soon. Again, sorry for delays I am several weeks behind on things."

I have sent several emails since then, but have had no reply.

I have receiced coins from them before with no hassles. I have a phone no. for them, but live in New Zealand and don't really want to add to my loss at this stage ($81.44). Anyone living in Tennessee keen to ring on my behalf?

I WILL CALL...WHAT IS THEIR NUMBER?

Good luck, seems that the BBB here in North East Tennessee can't even reach them.

Looks like I'm the only one that has a complaint filed against them.

Listed on the TnT Geocoins web site is a link to Follow the Quilt Trail, this will put you in contact with the Appalachain RC&D council. Ask to speak with a Mr. Roy Settle, he is the coordinator for the Appalachain RC&D council and is able to contact Tracy of TnT Geocoins. Mr. Settle can be reached at 423-753-4441 ext. #4 or Roy.Settle@Tn.usda.gov

He may be able to help us get our orders or a refund.

  12. I got a Maverick_65G and a Quad Cacher geocoin from a seller random_painting on eBay, the payments went to JSW Promotions. The Maverick_65G was advertised as not activated, but it was. I contacted the seller and they agreed to let me adopt it, which was no problem. I left them positive feedback before the adoption was complete, which they never went through with. I have tryed to reach the seller, but they will not communicate. The geocoin shows to be owned by a Team JSAM and was logged into Coinswag.com Portfollio/Geocoin Collection unpublished cache. I tryed to contact the owner, with no luck, their account is inactive. I was afraid it was stolen and contacted eBay & PayPal, they seem concerned and are checking into the seller, whose homepage is Coinswag.com

The good news? I got the geocoin REAL cheap, and it seems that Coinswag.com is infamous. That has to mean something don't it? :)

Even better news, the seller went through with the adoption today. :)

  14. Try posting looking in the vendor thread. I believe they had a family crisis.

Yes they did, and I am very sorry and understanding of that. However, they still operate on eBay useing a different seller name. I feel that if they can do this, at least they can communicate with us that have already paid for items and should keep us informed and updated on our purchases. Why not just offer us a refund. Seems that Tracy did at Geowoodstock in Tennessee according to a post on this forum. If they would communicate, as they can and do on eBay, investors such as myself may be interested in helping getting their business back up and operating. I have been looking into investing into the geocoin business, rather than just buying up and stocking geocoins that are already in production. It is very common that if a business is having trouble, let investors buy into it. At one time, T"n"T Geocoins was selling some very high quailty geocoins, but in sales, trust and reputation are everything.

  15. They sold me a geocoin on eBay under the name of a different seller, but the payment still went to JSW Promotions that was advertised as not activated, but it was. The seller offered to let me return it or adopt it, I chose to adopt is as the shipping fee that I would lose was greater than the price paid for the geocoin, then they ended all communication. I did get an email from coinswag.com about an order that I never placed a few days ago after reporting the seller to eBay. I am still trying to get them to proceed with the adoption process. Use your own judgement when dealing with this company, but as for me I never will again. 1st time, shame on them, 2nd time shame on me rule applys here. :signalviolin:

  16. My daughter won (grand prize) a custom painted ammo can and a Tennessee Jed geocoin at a geoevent at Bay's Mtn. near Kingsport, Tn. Thank you Tennessee Jed for the donation and the adoption. You made a great impression on me, now I donate unactivated geocoins at geoevents that we attend, all because of the kindness that you showed me toward your fellow geocachers.

    Pay it forward.

  17. It seem's that me and alot of other people have paid for (02/09) geocoins from this company, then after they recieved payment they dissappered and will not communicate. Anyone else had this problem?

  18. Sorry to tell you this Pastor B but you are in the same boat as many others here and none of us have a paddle.

I personally spoke with Tracy at Geowoodstock this year and asked for a refund. She told me all I had to do was write to her, so I did. I emailed her through ground speak, hotmail and ebay. I've lost track how many times I've emailed her. I have called her phone and left messages asking to speak with her about my refund with no return call.

Advice you ask for? Notify the BBB fraud department in Tennessee.

Yes, we all paid for items that have not been shipped and the company will not communicate. I have filed a complant with the BBB. I have also been in contact with Lindy Turner, coordinator of the RC&D council for the Clinch-Powell district. I am waiting to hear from a Roy Settle of the Appalachain RC&D council, which both groups are connected. The group is now considering commissioning AQT geocoins. I suggest contacting Lindy Turner @ www.vacationaqt.com and have her contact Roy Settle as I have been unable to reach him any other way.

I hope that this edit is more correct WRITE SHOP ROBERT, I guess you have not been waiting for almost a year with no contact from the company while they still operate on eBay under a different name.

  19. I have been hunting Morels for over 25 years, I started using a GPS unit to mark "patches" a few years ago before I heard about geocacheing. Sometimes I have someone drop me off on top of a moutain and hunt my way back to my truck. This year we had a bumper crop in SW Va./NE Tn. and according to my GPS the first ones that I found in mid-march were around 2000-2300 ft. in Popular groves on the north slopes. Seems that wild turkeys like them as well as I do. I dry the ones that I don't use fresh, they are great in stir-frys and on the grill.
