  1. It was the off road on road switch, once i got that straighten out I managed to find three caches. It was a good cache day. I have no idea how people go and find up to 50 caches in a day. 5 caches is the most I can get done.
  2. I often use the compass screen when I am close to the location. I haven't thought about that I thought that once you put in the coordinates It stays put. I will have try that and plug in the coords when I get at the location again see if that works. I knew where I was supposed to be at the last cache I tried but my gps wasn't leading me there at all. but I will try it again very soon thanks.
  3. check, check should the third set up be metric, yards, or statute??? elevation; feet/min depth; feet I don't know what the third set up should be at. thanks
  4. Hi I'll check that thanks, as for switching from on road to off road I am not to sure. I had great success at first and gone back to a couple of those caches and now I am off about 100 ft up to 75 ft if I am lucky. So I wondered If i had switched something and now I don't know what I switched of. I didn't cache all winter and started doing quick park and cache ones but with no luck and they should have been easy ones. Thanks...
  5. I having trouble with my etrex legend HCX Garmin, lately when looking for geocaches I put them in by hand. But lately when geocaching I am like 100 feet off from where I should be. I was out doing a search today in a parking lot. No trees not large buildings around but It wouldn't take me near to where I thought the cache was. It was going the opposite direction. This has happened to me now for three geocaches. I am off about 100 to 95 feet what am I doing wrong? When I first got this a year ago I had great finds with it. Now its the last few no finds. Very frustrating.
  6. I had no idea that there were two NT and non NT version. Until now. Is the NT version for the car gps. . So totally confusing for someone who just wants to have detailed maps on their gps. thanks.
  7. What dose that mean unlock code for your gps? Sorry I not that savvy like i said before. How do you unlock them. Thanks for that just another quick question where do you find the serial # on the gps. Thanks for all your input. and thanks for the tip on using city navigator nt. When looking for the correct program it is very confusing. I would love to know which ones you have added to your gps.
  8. I just bought ipod touch it dosn't come with gps but you can load geocaching app for it I haven't done that yet. you need to be in a wi fi spot but I think you can save cache and locations before hand. I got the 8 gig but I should have gotten the 16 for more space. hope that helps.
  9. What dose that mean unlock code for your gps? Sorry I not that savvy like i said before. How do you unlock them.
  10. MapSource® City Navigator North America v2008 Ok i ordered this on e-bay is this the right program to get fully loaded maps.? Or is this just another updater.
  11. ok I just tried loading up my GPS and it said it needed the previous Maps before this. I got the updater I thought that this would be the right one to up date my gps since I already have Map Source. The basic one that comes with the gps. This is Update 2009 City Navigator north america nt for garmin. What do I need to get before this one. I just spent 110$ dollars on it already. Can you download full road maps on to your gps from the garmin web site with out having to go run out and buy another disc. This it getting crazy. How many different ones are there out there. They all say updates.
  12. Thanks iam not all that computer savy, I know enough. I was also afraid of overwiting anthing iam not supposed to. thanks.
  13. ok i have had a gps for a year now and just bought Map update 2009 city navigator north america. Is this the right for garmin, and how do I load it on, with the cable to gps or sd card. (if i can find the other card that goes with the little one) Will this earase the geocaches I have already added. I have about fifty of them all put in by hand. I just don't want it to erase anything that I am not suposed to. I have a etrex legend hcx.
  14. Oh.. k, i'll check that one I have a gmail account and want my watch list sent there as well as my home. I see what I come up with. thanks.
  15. Hi, can you have your watch list sent to more than two emails? I have another account I would like to have sent to. Thanks.
  16. Ha ha ha. funny, first thing i did was check ebay to see what kind of cache containers were out there. I had no clue. One of my favorites in which I almost bought to use was a fake wasp nest. How bad do you want a smiley to go check a wasp nest. lol But it would keep the muggles away.
  17. Has any one use itouch and GSAK ??? or geocahing with itouch?
  18. Thanks, I have my handheld already, Just looking for a good car one that would let you add in the cords. How can you tell that you can add cords in when you are looking at the specks.
  19. We stock up on key chains and use them for trade. So far the biggest hit for the kids to find are the toy frogs. So we watch for little plastic frogs at the dollar store.
  20. The hints are included in the .gpx file you get with the pocket queries. They're not included in the .Loc files. I think the membership fee is worth it for the pocket queries alone. Carolyn Thanks Carolyn and Jim, I got the membership and I will look further into GSAK. It just looks a bit scary with all its files. lol Oh and Jim I don't know anything about the PDA's how do they run. I've never had one thought they need some kind of plan with them to run like a cell phone. I'v never looked at them before. Cheers. Hope this doesn't sound to dumb to ask.
  21. Some you can and some you can't. It depends on the type of car gps you have. I have a Garmin Nuvi and I can enter the coordinates by hand or even load the .gpx files in. We use a Garmin Nuvi to get to the cache site in the car and then an Oregon to get from the car to the cache. Carolyn I don't know much about car gps's how can you tell if you can add the cords to them. What should I look for? I just find that using a handheld is so distracting while driving. It's best when you have some one with you. But if iam on my own I want a good gps that's not so distracting while driving. .
  22. ok I've read the GSAK it looks complicated; it looks tricky to do. Do the cache come with the hints as well. I'v just ordered my North America maps for my GPS and I just hope I can get that running on my unit with out problems. I'll take another look but if any one has any tips would be great. and would it be worth getting the membership for geocaching?
  23. Just a quick question about car gps's, can you punch in cords in like your hand held. If you don't have an address and you want to drive to your cache how do you add it. I was thinking of getting a car gps to take with when on the road looking for that cache. So was wondering if any one else uses this combination. Thanks.
  24. Hi, how can you go geocaching with out having to print out all the hints and maps that go with it. I have a e trex legend hcx. So far i punch in the cords and the name by hand so that I can name them. Then I print out all the info of the cache. I just recently printed out 20 caches for a cache blitz. We managed but the maps were a pain. I don't have maps yet on my e-trex. I will soon. One other question about adding maps how well detailed are they the road maps. Do they name all the roads? Thanks. My goal is to go paperless. With out having to get iphone.
