  1. I had similar problems a few days ago when uploading some. It worked when I resized it to 600 x 450 (the site use to try to resize it to this size on its own...perhaps that feature has been disabled?) Try resizing it so it's no bigger than 600 x 600 pixels, save it as a new file so you don't lose your original, then upload it. It should work fine.
  2. Since guys tend to leave out the details...just our background...DavidMac started caching in Tennessee in 2002 and I began caching in Mississippi in 2003. In 2005 he moved to Starkville, MS to get his master's degree at Mississippi State University and we met for the first time at an event the weekend after he moved in August, but it wasn't until 3 years later when we finally started "talking" and I convinced him to go on a hike with me on April 26, 2008 to go after my 1,000th cache find. And, that's where it all began... Today, it was rainy, but we drove out to a virtual cache DavidMac has in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, and went on a hike from there where he proposed. It was only fitting to have geocaching be a part of the "engagement story" since it was the reason we started "talking" to begin with...
  3. Because virtual caches aren't allowed to be created anymore. Check out the Waymarking website.
  4. I recently purchased a bike as well, more for exercise than caching, but I've used it now on two caching trips, and must say, it's sooo much better than caching by car!! DavidMac and I took our bikes on our 4th of July weekend trip to Arkansas, and spent a few hours biking and caching around Lake Degray State Park. There were some pretty good hills in there that got our heart rates up pretty good too. I had purchased a waist pack that holds 2 water bottles, and has a good amount of room to hold "stuff". It worked great. I just need to find a way to mount the GPS. Right now I just clip the Colorado's carabiner clip onto the gear/brake lines and let the unit lay on the handlebar...but need to get a mount. I hope we'll get to cache via bike more often
  5. I think the decision to go alone is up to each individual person. We all have our own level of comfort. Personally I've done quite a bit of caching alone, and only a few times have felt "uneasy" about being somewhere by myself. In those instances, I've simply driven away. I think it is smart to be some what "prepared" incase you are enjoying a nice walk in the woods alone and someone tries to come at you "outta nowhere". Also, just be mindfully aware of where you are (though I know that can be hard when you are following that arrow). If the area has a bunch of ruff looking folks hanging around, or in anyway seems unsafe, then keep driving...it's just not worth it. If you've never taken a self defense class, you may want to look into that in your area. They are usually free or very cheap and can be a lot of fun if you have a few girlfriends go with you (I mean who doesn't like beating up a man in a plushy suit?)
  6. Yeah I also think it'd be great if the requirements to log the earthcache were in that first paragraph. I don't mind reading all the information the cache owner provides, it's just a pain in the rear to have to scroll back through it everytime we need to look back at the questions. And then you never know when it will be truncated...
  7. Wow, I'm glad to see this thread is still going... I have several hikes in mind this spring/summer/fall that I didn't get too last year. Mostly in the Smoky Mtns, Ozarks, and North Alabama... And I want to do my first overnight trip (I've only ever done day hikes)....my boyfriend has a place picked out...though I can't think of the name off the top of my head. So if you have any pointers for a first time overnighter, feel free to share!
  8. Well my Colorado will keep track of when I found the caches which I can import into gc.com, and log my finds...now as far as remembering things about the individual caches when I go to log them on gc.com, I use to keep up with a notebook...now I have a boyfriend with a great memory oh yea? Ask him to tell you he date on which you met. Ha...gc.com helps him with that too...it was his first event in MS...so should he forget he can always use gc.com to remember.
  9. Well you can create several different PQ's to cover the state and import them into GSAK....GSAK will not duplicate caches that show up in two different PQ's if they overlap...

  11. Hey there! Here's a few of my favorites in Mobile... GCJCAV - Confederate Dead - It's in a large, really neat cemetery. GC1A25W - Oakleigh Garden District - Washington Square - This is a neat neighborhood park featuring a cool fountain and several large live oak trees. GC98D1 - Nidus - This is a virtual at Battleship Park in Mobile which is home of the Battleship USS Alabama, which you can tour, but is not required for the virtual. It also has some other items displayed such as old planes, and there are several war memorials on the grounds. There is also a traditional cache not far down the road GC11Q6E - USS Alabama Hope you have a good trip!
  12. Is this a new season? Is this when we get to go out and hunt for someone whom we can call dear?.... hmm...sounds like something cupid would come up with
  13. Aw, but signal is just so cute...how can you not like him/her...?
  14. I also found one or two while on a cruise this summer in Cozumel & Progreso, Mexico, but was also with non-cachers and they didn't share my enthusiasm at taking time out from site seeing and shopping to find a cache...however, a cache found at a bar with some excellent margaritas made them a little more "relaxed" about me grabbing a cache.
  15. Can you possibly go to one of the cache pages in your search, pull up the google map, and pan to the area where you think the rest stop was (maybe you remember the exit # or something?). Then see if any of the cache descriptions ring a bell to where you were...?? Just a thought Can you remember what highway you were on, or what the nearest city was?
  16. I had those same thoughts as I was walking into my windowless office at work yesterday (and this) morning as it was a cool 61 degrees with a high of 75 (which for MS is outstanding weather)....I couldn't help but think how perfect this weather would be for caching...but in order to afford the batteries and gas for my car, I had to go inside and work. It's torture.... Only 40 more years until retirement
  17. Well since she's the primary subject, I don't blame her for trying to hurry you along...she's not saying "ANOTHER picture?"....she's saying "Not Another picture of me!!!" haha!! But since you are patient and let her read the signs, I don't think she'll have a problem being patient with you and your camera...as long as you are taking pictures of more than just her...
  18. Yeah, if she doesn't want to wait for you, just let her paddle on. You'll catch up eventually. Half the fun of caching is taking time to enjoy the scenery around you. Though I know sometimes we get caught up in the excitement of the hunt and start walking (or in yalls case paddling) faster.... but still I don't think you should have to miss out on photo ops because she's in a hurry to get there. Surely you guys can compromise on it if you tell her you'd like to take a little more time taking some pictures....
  19. Yeah the best place to get in touch with other cachers is through the www.msga.net website. I know there are a few cachers in greenville, but not so sure about in cleveland.
  20. Yeah I guess this is the first summer out of my 4 and a half years of caching that I cached to this magnitude in the summer...and I've never been so excited about fall coming thanks to all those chigger and tick bites... 1 day of caching equals 4 days of itching...
  21. Yeah it's a good idea! It'd be a little motivation to turn those frowns upside down...
  22. Oh, oh, Me Too! Forget a button...a pony sounds much better!
