  1. I assume that's Garmin Topo - so does anyone know how much space full coverage using SMC topo maps would be approx? I mean are they more or less intensive than Topo? Bambi. 75mb edit : but they are just contour lines and trig points Dave
  2. Yes... I see your point You could always use a second card. Keep one with the UK on for 'everyday' use and a second card for use elsewhere. It only takes a few seconds to change them. Yes! I do agree with the second card..(barring loosing the little devils.. )..as recalculations are faster with smaller cards.. Dave
  3. But if you can load the whole of the UK onto 256Mb and have a goodly chunk to spare, does it matter if it comes as 20 map tiles or 300? You're only going to load it all once Unless, of course, the total memory needed has increased considerably from City Select to City Navigator. I wouldn't know the answer to that but I bet someone will pop up and tell me I believe that you need almost 1Gb to load the whole of the UK from the Topo maps. 172mb CNv8..115mb MG v7 so if you want to combine it with a trip to europe is doesn't leave a lot.The problem is if you plot a route accross with small map tiles you can get quite a tight corridor each side of the road where with large tiles you have a greater one which cranks up the memory requirements. Dave
  4. The problem is if you upgrade your maps to say CN v8...Garmin in their infinite wisdom have produced this release with very large map tiles rendering units with small memory vitually consigned to the scrap heap...(method in their madness eh!) as less than 20 tiles cover the whole of the UK where as with MG Europe there are just shy of 300. Dave
  5. Before you splash out on a 1Gb card read This Dave
  6. The base maps are rubbish anyway so go for the cheaper US version.and use your MG which you can use to Autoroute with by using Img2Gps instead of Mapsource to send the map tiles to the unit. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mdipol/img2gps/ Dave
  7. The first series of etrex finished at firmware version 2.14 and was not waas enabled.. the next series started at firmware 3 which had hardware upgrades and were Waas enabled..this also applied to the Cameo. Dave
  8. You can also autoroute with MetroGuide using third party software instead of Mapsource..I have MG v7 working on my gpsmap 60c as the map tiles in CN8 which I also own are too large to cover a decent size area ..It is discussed in detail Here Dave
  9. If the contour lines were coloured then if they were overlaid onto road maps it could be difficult to tell them from the roads. Anyway just think how many colours you would need if you wanted a different one for each foot or metre of altitude, no, much easier the way it is with numbers! Dave
  10. To be honest I'm not sure if it's not detailed enough or if I'm doing something wrong. I haven't actually got my Vista C yet so I'm just looking at them on MapSource. When I'm zoomed at the 500ft level they seem quite detailed, but when I zoom out one more level to 800ft all the lines disappear and get replaced with only one or two really coarse contour lines. Is there some way of changing that? A similar cut-off happens at 1.5miles zoom level. Is there any way of getting MapSource to show me the contour lines at the same time as the MapSource Road and Recreation maps I have loaded? What level of detail will the basemap on the GPS give me? Thanks! One of the ways to get the map and contour lines onto the gps is to use an application like sendmap or img2gps which has sendmap built in. ..As far as the vitsa c goes, has it got enough memory to hold enough of an area to use Garmin topo?? Dave
  11. Poi Loader does not support my gpsmap 60c where the Cx series it does. HBH, see my previous post re Metroguide!! Dave
  12. I have an old copy of Metroguide loaded on my 60Csx with auto-routing. Would I be infringing any copy-writes if I put a how-to on my web page ? You would only need the url of the place to download the software but I don't know what the Mods would think of that ,but there again its only another way of sending .img files to the Gps that leaves all the data intact Dave
  13. I think hidden gems was refering to the mapping software not the gps firmware! If you purchase v6 second hand you will have to make sure it has at least one unlock code left on the yellow coupon or you will not be able to load the maps onto your gps you could also have to pay nearly £50 for the upgrade to City Navigator v8 depening on when v6 was first registered. The map tiles are to large to be of practical use to you with the limited memory available in your gps you can buy MetroGuide which has small map tiles quite cheaply which is not locked and is supposed not to autoroute but there are ways around this. Dave
  14. After reading this post I went outside with my Gpsmap60 and also got a full lock on 33.what else I did notice was that if I moved around and lost the lock instead of the hollow bar going up and down the solid bar dissapeared completely just leaving a "D" in its place.I wonder if they have been working on the correction system as I have been unable to even see sat 33 on the gps for some time Dave
  15. OH! I didn't think that was too bad for something that cost £350 which could be passed off as a new item and only used for a week..Looks like it wil have to stay in the drawer!! dave

  20. Hi, Is there or is it possible to have a For Sale Topic as I want to sell my Gps ?? Dave
  21. For those who have failed to get any D's,make sure you are in normal battery mode as you will never get any correction in "battery saver" mode. Dave
  22. The link also says there are paths and tracks but don't expect them to be up to the detail of MM though.I have looked at the map viewer on Garmins web site of my local area and a lot of the unmetaled roads and paths are missing. Dave
  23. I saw this working on a gpsmap 60cs back in November so it can be done .It just means a smaller area can be carried around at a time. I had looked at the viewer on the Garmin site at my rural area and most of the unmetaled lanes are missing, very disapointing! Dave
  24. Hi,Garmin are bringing out Topo maps of th UK early this year , I posted to this effect around the end of November If I can find it I will repost. Found it : http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=114995 Dave
  25. Thank you for pointing me to the Garage sale rules and after reading them I am happy that I have complied with them : I am a private idividual selling my only set of ttn5 disks (I am sticking with ttn3 as it has functions that have been left out of ttn5) and is used by many members of the Geocaching community to navigate to a parking place before setting off on foot so I hope that my post will remain on the forum in order that some one has the oppertunity to to buy the genuine article Dave
