  1. Anyone got the non tinyurl ? tinyurl is not working for me.
  2. 3) Win the auction with a bogus new account and leave him instant bad feedback - repeat when it is resisted. I can't see eBay removing it for being stolen property since stealing rubbish left in public place is not considered steeling.
  3. I am surprised this is not happening more often. I can't see eBay being able to do anything. He is simply selling rubbish that has been left in a public place.
  4. Got an idea for the op. Make the Final cache a Mystery cache with a solvable puzzle, But the puzzle is extremely hard, like a brute force password hack on a zip file. Depending on your choice of password you can decide how long it will take to solve on a standard computer, lets say 8 weeks of the computer running flat out. Then as a bonus for completing the challenge you email the successful challenger the password for the zip file. anyone then has a choice, brute for the zip file or complete the challenge.
  5. Do what you want to. Don't let others dictate there personal rules onto you. It is a game, play it by your own rules (and within the rules of GS). Go spend more time caching and less time listing to the oppressors.
  6. I don't do it often but I enjoy it when I do. I enjoy it a lot more than most day caches.
  7. Someone hides a piece of tupperware in the bush. I use a multi billion dollar Military satellite system to then find that piece of tupperware. In it is a log book I then sign and then I record the find online.
  8. that answers my question clearly. I cannot do what I planned to do, but with this info I can do something else that will work in with it.
  9. Can I use a existing traditional cache as a waypoint in a multi ? The multi will be placed after the traditional has been placed. the traditional will have a needed clue to get to the end of the mutli, plus it has it's own log. 2 smilies for the price of 1.
  10. Does the ALR rule not apply to earth caches ?
  11. olive containers are great. got a few myself for the purpose.
  12. Go to the local electronics store and get some etching solution for PCB (printer circuit board). Gloves and eye protection needed.
  13. I have to disagree with the lock times. My Kaiser gets a lock very quickly, Sometimes it beats my Garmin Venture, If not it is very close behind, within a few seconds. General performance I agree with fully. The Kaiser GPS does not have the resolution needed for serious geocaching. The Kaiser is alike to the iPhone in its GPS performance. As a Kaiser owner I am considering getting a SirFIII "puck" GPS for geocaching with my Kaiser. Currently my Kaiser lets me do some on the fly caching just when I have 30 minutes when I am out and about but when I plan to go out the Garmin Venture gets loaded up with the waypoints as well. The Kaiser gets me to the location by road and then the Venture gets me landing on GZ with very good accuracy. Don't expect to get a usable GPS reception under tree cover with most Phone/GPS units including the iPhone and HTC series.
  14. Short answer - You have to be kidding.... Longer answer... The iPhone is a real GPS if your meaning of a real GPS is that it uses satellites. The iPhone is also a poor quality GPS for accuracy and sensitivity. The iPhone will not replace your oregon. If the your foretrex reception if killing you then the iPhone is going to hold the gun and shoot you in the head. The iphone is good for caching on the run. A serious cacher will have a dedicated GPS.
  15. I have been looking for a swag bag for geocaching. I currently use a swag vest from scottevest and I find it works great for a few caches but when you start to need more items like more pens, spare note books, tape measure, torch, quick drop micro cache etc etc etc it does not fit the bill. So what have you people got for a swag bag ? I tried using a small size backpack (daypack) and it was just to annoying putting it on and off, I tried a small over the shoulder bag and found it too small. I use my blackwolf messenger bag and found it just that little too big. So how do you carry your swag ?
  16. Take a look at GCKEK3 and GCKEK3 for examples of Mystery caches that need you to visit previous caches to solve the puzzle. The puzzle can be as simple of as complicated as you like. Just a simple card saying "co-ords of GCxxxx are xxx.xxx.xxxx" will suffice.

  18. I am not near the airport but in Melbourne we do have a cache built for dropping of / picking up TB's and Coins leaving and coming into Melbourne from the airport. It is large not too far from the airport. The cache is GC1HRJG You will also be able to contact more Aussies at http://forum.geocaching.com.au/
  19. GC's back end has trouble staying up on the load it has now. The choice of language the backend has been written on has been question before. The backend code was never made to scale and you see the results from that with slow PQ's and server downtime. There is not the server power available to even consider a open API yet. The power of open API's in promoting a website has been shown time after time. If GC wanted to dramatically increase it's exposure to the outside world a open API would be the way to do it by getting some of the momentum being generated by websites like twitter and facebook. It would also open new revenue streams for GC. Problem is they have a revenue stream they are protecting. On another thought. Imaging the cool side games that could be generated with the help of a open API, Clues for other caches could be unlocked only when a user has completed a set of different caches or reached a number of caches and so on. Bonus can be added for Moving a coin / bug XXX distance. The ideas go on and on. And stats, so many nice stats plastered over 1000's of other website forums exposing more and more people to GC. /me dreams about the potential of a open API...
  20. With a location a few of the wiz kids around here should be able to find it in no time.
  21. Plan as I go on tomtom. Hit a cache, look at tomtom and got to the next one on my route. tomtom makes it easy to see what is in the area so you don't backtrack. might also set a destination in tomtom, view the route in map view and find a cache to hit on the way, and repeat. When i switch to foot mode i turn of tomtom and run beeline. i log the find and write a note, then when i get home i upload the fieldnote from beeline and write a proper log. the fieldnote shows where i have been, when i was there and any note i life like "took tb 123456"
  22. Thanks BlueDeuce. All sorted out now.
  23. Log is already deleted. I deleted it expecting it to remove the item from the geocache. And what action would that be ?
  24. the coin has had a interesting experiences. A unpublished cache was located next to a recently published cache, I placed the coin in what I thought was the correct cache but in fact was a unpublished cache. Now the coin has never visited the published cache and needs to be removed from "recently spotted" and removed from the cache (page). Coin is now in the hand of another cacher, we are trying to correct the transfer. So who can I contact to remove the history of the coin being in the cache ?
