  1. Matt, When I first got my SporTrak Pro, I downloaded the 5.0 version also. The unit self-rebooted about four times over a two-day period. That was two months ago, and it hasn't self-rebooted since then. Neither has my goto indicator. It seems to be functioning perfectly now, even after my initial paranoia that I had made a $270.00 mistake! By the way, the Maggie folks are great if you do continue to experience a problem. Good luck......Orion47
  2. I like challenges in any form, locationless caches included. It isn't necessary for me to compete, don't have to prove anything to anybody, well, maybe sometimes....to myself. So numbers, or padding of numbers isn't a relevant part of the sport to me. I'll take the challange - someone else can have the numbers. Orion47
  3. Yo Breaktrack! Gave Uncle Sam 5 years in the USAF as a computer programmer. Back then (1964 to 1969) we were still wiring panels for Accounting machines, Sorters and Collators, but switched to a true main frame Burroughs with a grand total memory of 4K! Anyway, thanks for posting the poll - didn't think anyone cared about being in 'the service' any more. I believe in it one hundred per cent, for mind, body and soul, not to mention the service to this wonderful country of ours. God Bless America Orion47
  4. MissJenn - Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Have you read his 'Angels and Demons'? It's also a good read. Glad to see you hype reading to the cachers. Erasmus said, "When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes." I bought a GPS instead - so now I geocache hungry and naked. Orion 47
  5. Thanks to all who responded to my request for NAD83 links and info. The datum does exist on my Spor Trak - just reckon I went through the wrong menu. It's probably a wonder I ever found a cache ---- Orion 47
  6. Howdy from West-Central Florida. THought I'd try a few Benchmarks for variety. However, I see the coordinates are in a NAD 83 format. My Maggie Spor Track Pro doesn't have that data base available. Is the NAD 83 available on line, or does anyone know of a conversion formula? Thanks. Happy Hunting
  7. Quite a mixed crowd! Well, my own caching is mixed too. Been out only five times with four finds, and a partial so far on a multi cach. My bride went with me on tht one - so - looks like I cache alone about 80% of the time. It's a lot more safe than Wal-Mart! For all us loners - leave a copy of your cache page at home for someone to find.
  8. Hi all. Have just started this interesting journey. Loving every minute of it. Seems like you can teach an old dog new tricks! Still have much to learn - certainly a good thing. My GPS choice was the Magellan Spor Trak Pro, mostly because I've had two earlier Maggies that performed flawlessly for me. Just needed the WAAS capability, which comes in handy for Geocaching. I'm in west-central Florida - great year-round caching! Looking forward to the many other options the sport has to offer. Compliments to the Webmaster - great site, user friendly, and FUN.
