  1. I took a relative caching today showing him the sights which included particularly good geocaches (GC12WGA). I logged the find as "Found-It" to attach an image and gain my personal trackable mileage. This increased my "Found-It" count by one. The system could have known that I already had logged this cache and should not have increased my find-count number. When I changed my log to "Write Note", the count number decreased, as I expected, so this can be corrected. (However, my personal trackable does not count the miles, but that's another feature-request/bug fix.) You can decide if this is a feature and the system is working as expected. Or perhaps it is a bug, since I could find my own caches multiple times to increase my statistics (but that would be boring and a waste of time). Regards, Methyl
  2. Update 11/11/13 - Failed again, and tried my reset option, which didn't work. Tried the Menu/Enter+Light trick and that didn't work either. Went back to A-Team's suggestion about loading no GPX files at all, and then having it rebuild the database, and it worked. Thanks!
  3. Thanks, A-Team. I did go through several iterations of deleting GPX files. As it turned out, I was going to do a master reset as described by Garmin. I went through the backup instructions, and then tried to do a hard reboot. I clicked the Menu-Enter(Joystick) buttons at the same time, then clicked Light to start up hoping to get a "Do you really want to Reset?" option. Never got the question, it just loaded right up, sigh. Anyway, there's this neat "Reset Settings" option in the menu and I ended up just doing that. It worked. Never needed the backup or anything.
  4. Here is a new one in Seattle: http://coord.info/GC3NEYY ... I am now inspired!
  5. No, not a hacker/cracker ... just an exercise in data visualization ... I would like to learn how to code a new feature that I would submit to Groundspeak ... The feature is that I want to be able to look at a map of an area and see which caches have the most favorites (say, bigger icons or something), so if I'm in a new city, with only an hour or two, I can easily find a great cache. Besides, Groundspeak really should just hire me ....
  6. Hi all, I run my regular pocket queries about once a week and transfer them to my Garmin (ETrex30) > GPX directory reliably. Today, I went out geocaching and only the waypoints were loaded. When I returned to my computer this afternoon, I checked my GPX files and they do indeed contain the correct data. Rerunning the query and transferring in the new files (overwriting the possibly corrupted files) does not fix the problem. I found this thread on the topic [http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=303758 ], but it's cryptic because I don't know what the startup GPS files are, and where I can download 'fresh' versions. I am not convinced that this is the right route to go, however. Can anyone suggest another thing to try? I'm leaving on vacation soon, and I would HATE to have to go paperless in foreign climes ... [Mac OSXIntel osx10.6, but only 32bit, so I can't run Garmin Express]
  7. I would like to try a data graphing exercise by parsing the GPX file for difficulty and terrain ... that's easy, it's 'Groundspeak:difficulty' or 'Groundspeak:terrain'. I wasn't able to find any tag related to favorite, or whether or not the cache had travel bugs in it. 1 - Is there a Groundspeak API that is available for hackers? (I'm not a cracker ... this is just personal curiosity to see if I can display other information than what Geocaching.com displays) 2 - I can't find favorite, or travel bug in the .gpx file. Is there some other way to mine the database? A different file format? Thanks
