  1. As a local whom will one day find this stash of ammo cans.. can I suggest just Hard Cold Cash...Set of car keys to a new cachemobile...The winning lottery ticket... On a serious note..Try 5Below.. some decent stuff cheap, Yard Sales..I pick up some cool trinkets from there, usually a box of stuff they'll let go for $5. Mostly my caches contain toys..But am going more trail wise on the trinkets, tool wise etc. K well sure you'll get it squared away, and am looking forward to the hunt(s)!
  2. I have my trusty Fisher Space Pen, tethered to the GPS'r lanyard, check let's cache then! Well it broke my home made tether one day, and I had trekked to a cache was about to SL, when I realized the afore mentioned was no longer. I searched my bag and amazingly all my back up instruments were AWOL. This was just a one time deal,I have read logs, pen lost, pen not working, wrote in mud, etc, well that will never ever happen, I mean how hard is it to keep a pen pencil? Well here I am in that very situation, what to do, tried the mud, nope that just would not work , thought about blood, but that seemed well icky at least. Well thought back to McGyver, what would he do, thinking back it was more fun figuring out how to SL than finding the CC, but a solution did come, sooner than later, with a BIC/Match or twig. Like the cigar, I smoke, and carry matches, and a BIC lighter, armed with them, and a very thin twig, I sharpened the end like a pencil with the ol pocket knife, burnt it, put it out, and used the reserve charcoal as "ink", also had to pre-carved my initials ever so slightly with the PK, just to help make the coal pencil take hold, and make sig more readable, and hopefully last till confirmation by CO! (LOL). Today, I have a new Fisher, all is well, and have replenished the lost collection of writing instruments! But sure it will happen again, and well I am not as concerned as I once was.Unless it happens at a Nano,LOL then what?
  3. I have always wondered the same. Usually I'm off a few, I have 1900 finds with 1906 unique. Could not figure it out thought well I found a few bench marks, but then realized they do not count towards the found count. I have attended events, but as for the recycling of the page? Hmm.. something to ponder, and if so how do you fix it? go back and delete the attended logs? TY for the post, perhaps the mystery is solved!
  4. I just upgraded to the IP 4 , and the GS app is working swell, much better than when I was on the 3g, seems smooth, but guess now I've jinxed it so sure my next trip out will pose a problem LOL. But seriously, I was almost ready to dish the app on my 3g for the issues you mention, but the last two times out, no issues at all, and was actually impressed with the ability to finally use it rather than the GPS, on my 3g, could never get it to zero in, but on the IP4, smooth as glass. Also noticed a new feature that I did not see on the 3g, a north up or floating when navigating, and love that, helps tremendously. GL, as I am not sure what to say that may be of help, perhaps reboot, k well cache on.
  5. OK.. well I was out caching with the Iphone app, 10/10/10.. when a Souvenir popped up, cool, a little something to reflect upon, I imagine, but how, when, and where will these pop up? Not sure how this "souvinir" all works, so decided to check the forums, well that seems to have been moved, and so tried the new link, just to find out it's an "idea collection" forum. So will post this question here, as it is not a new Idea, just a general query, and hope the forum topic iphone is added back to the regular forums on the next update! ------ RE-edit, found posts in regards to this post, but... Still having questions as to how to find these "Zones"?
  6. What? You upload them to a GPS, lot of folks upload them into GSAK, GPSvisual , and I am sure there are many more.. not allowed, makes no sense to me. Iphone apps, lot of them utilize the PQ, or rather the .gpx output file.
  7. Recently I was checking my FB account, noticed an ad, clicked it, and landed here at Cach' Eye. I have already posted another thread, but that was just a preliminary review, and think I posted it under the wrong topic, so hopefully folks will like and understand this better if posted here,. Today, I have used it for the past week, and have to say.. it is a good tool to use. I used to hand write out my todo list, took a bit, but this makes it easy peasy, as well as gives you time to plot out parking, a great tool, hope ya'll enjoy it! It's similar to GPSvisualizer.. but better in regards to planning. First you create a PQ..your choice, use the Groundspeak, or use GSAK, Of course you'll need to sign up on cach eye, and then up load the PQ, then from there you can create a "Todo" list of plunders. Print it out, and scope out possible parking spots for the pending attack, (Record the cords from the upper right hand corner), also can add your cords, as well as to include child waypoints. Also there is a macro for GSAK, the cach eye will only allow a upload of 3000, but the filters on GSAK should take care of that, so it is a great additional map for gsak, or even GS maps. I like it tremendously, you get a great view of caches, as the icons adjust to small dots, as you zoom in.. looks like a cache etc, and there are several map viewing options. Well enjoy! Cache On!
  8. WOW BBW SUPER PC, 24 SECONDS, per deletion.. can you leap buildings in a single bound too? Have already "moved on", just a simple request, and am sure the notes were posted with good intentions, but still.. only 24 seconds.. timed it did ten in appx 12 minutes...
  9. As most of the community already knows, this week Groundspeak had a few "Bots" invade and posted several bogus logs. The only way to get rid of these is to delete them. Well for some it is a simple process and others not so easily accomplished. Some may have only a few hides, while others have a few more than others. I fall into the latter. I have been deleting, as fast as I can: But now to compound the situation, fellow cachers are posting notes, giving more attention to the "F'D bot", which also complicates me having to delete additional logs. VERY TIME CONSUMING!, please do not post additional "Notes" to "Remind" CO's about deleting, I am in the process of deleting as time allows, I work 60, and have a social life as well, so 10 to 15 deletions a week, here and there, is about the best I can do.
  10. Have heard of this "forest defender" else where, as I am sure it's lurking on this thread this very moment, well they have what they came for, publicity, well time to delete those 147 bogus logs! Perhaps well need PIN numbers or some form of security for the future? Pretty sure this zealot is not quite done with the stupidity!
  11. Was doing the Facebook when I seen the link to this Cach'Eye I like it! It has it's Pros & Cons, but is still a useful tool. (HMM.. perhaps Groundspeak can implement this as a premium tool one day?) K so what is this?, it's a PQ, GSAK mapper. Generate a PQ, upload it, surf around & plot your geocaching adventure. Also works with GSAK, there is a macro listed at the site, have not tried it yet. Cach Eye, allows for one to actually surf the map, with out the GS limit of 500, or the bugs & Script errors. I love this to, in GS maps, the Icons never shrink, therefore the restrictions, with Cach'Eye, the icons shrink to size of the map, allowing one to get a bigger picture of the caching grounds! It also allows you to create a "Todo list" ( I know not paperless (CON)), but I find myself constantly creating such a list, so this simplifies that process. Plus the mapper has floating coordinates in the upper right hand corner, allowing you to jot down key waypoints, IE parking, trailheads that are hidden etc. Another pro.. you start a multi, get stuck, it goes to the wayside, or a puzzle cache solved, with this it does not appear to save them ( Only tinkered with this last couple of days) but Cach'eye allows one to correct the coordinates, pretty slick. I also love the map options, numerous options from google, bing, topo, delorme, as well as the ability to "Grab" coordinates, see the cache look for parking cords all in one place. As for cons.. you can measure distances, however only shows distances in metric, thusfar, have not been able to switch that. Also noticed you can not add your own cords, unless you go to gpsvisualizer and process your own .gpx. Overall, I like it, Cach'Eye has more potential I am sure, so figured I'd share it, and maybe the community can add input then perhaps one day GS will implement this tool for PM's!
  12. I've used Off! Deet 98.11% Ben's Deet 98.11%, a few other's all Deet, and Scotch Mini Lint Roller's, usually the critters still attack, so I'm going to order Avon's skin so soft worked quite well while in the field , Learned about it while enlisted the U.S Army, so need to locate an Avon sales person for some more, and finally the last bit of my bug arsenal, is my winter BDU top, with a hunters Mosquito netting mask (Not the "Bee hive hat thing, hate them) and of course heavy duty leather work gloves, put that on, and I'm invincible! Have not one welt when that's on, a bit weird looking, but it works well!
  13. OK there was a site update, kool. so I waited, and decided that I would geocache tomorrow, so wanted er.. still want to run a PQ a state related PQ that I run on a regular basis as needed. Now all was fine got to the part where they ask where to send the PQ, well now has 2 links, one to my verified email, and one to add an email. So I click the send button, and a page pops up, An Error Has Occurred Your request has resulted in an error. Please return to this site's home page to continue. So wondering when this will be addressed, or if there is a way around it. I also tried to pull in my weekly allowed find pq, still not sure why I am not able to receive the PQ's
  14. To our men and women serving, and retired THANK-YOU! To our many men and women serving currently, may they return safe and again THANK-YOU! , and as a comrade /Vet , a HUGE THANK-YOU, God Bless the troops and the US!
  15. A little getting used to, but glad to see we still have the google map, and I like the interactive newer map, can stay on the listing and it seems to run smoothly enough, not as jittery as the old one, Firefox browser.
  16. Cool.. Another idea I will utilize one day. I have a cache (GC1H7TG) with just the caps, one from a coke bottle, and one from a water bottle, used a Dremmell tool, and duct tape, folks love it, the simplest thing, and they love it. I'm a chef, and since I've started caching, I tend to use plastics I salvage from the bin at work. I just recently learned of what I call a "Bouncing Betty", You take a cap from a McCormick Salt/Pepper shaker, (Black cap) and then get a hold of some of the caps that come on those beverage syrups, (Coke, soda the fountain syrups), a little electrical tape, the log rolls up in the fountain cap, and they close nice and snug, and well looks like a mini Land mine. I also have a "Bleach/Radiator" Cap micro, grab one of them, and usually a small juice cap will snap in place, as well as some other caps. Well as you can tell, I have lot of time on my hands while at work, (LOL not really) but at home, have lot of plastics to play with. Glad to hear I am not the only cap head, or CITO head, and can not wait to give this a shot.
  17. Do you do anything to protect your smart phone when geocaching? I have a hip holster, as well as a screen protector, and a leather case. I always have a Ziplock, just in case. Just recently.. I seen an utube video, that showed how to make a case from an old cd frame, duct tape, and ziploc. So am getting ready to make me one of them. Do you carry phone insurance because you intend on using it more outside and if something does happen the insurance will cover it? I've got my savings, with a "New Iphone Fund" , so if it goes kaput, well I'll just go get a new one! Any helpful tips, tricks or techniques you use that would be helpful to others in regards to the applications or use of your smart phone while geocaching? 1. Jailbreak 2. Carry a portable power source. 3. Obsessively charge, at the car, charge it, At a cache less than 200', keep the phone in the car, charging, any spare moment charge it, keep it charged! Fav Apps I love GC Pal, a great app, have used it to keep track of my hides, multis, and even if the GS app is down, can still use it to get cache listings. Facemap, perfect to post to facebook your location. Gowalla.... Love this app, similar to geocaching in so many ways. Only it's environmentally safe, And you can create a cache (Known as a spot) any where you want. Great for thos spots where a cache just can not be placed, well check it out, a good app all the same. WAZE.. a gps, user map generator. Maps are generated by user generated input, and the GPS is like a car mounted NUVI, a cool app. Well have many more, but will add them to a post I have not been to in a while, m\y app review page. Great questions HHH, still waiting for the first episode of Treaurecache? Not fond of the name, but will see! Which smart phone do you use for geocaching and how much?

  19. Just recently a cache was published a "?" set up a father apparently placed it for his son to locate and claim the FTF, (GC1X4Q7) I think it is a tainted FTF, even the son in his log admits in so many words as to how his father "Left the solution for him to find, but with so much FTF competition he would take it, . I waited for 7 months for my FTF, a well earned rainy day First FTF it was, I think the FTF race is a part of the game, adds a bit of competition to the hobby/game, as well as life lessons, you have to step up in life, and work hard to get what you want, it is not a hand me down. But to have someone else place a cache just for you to find, a bit well lacking, what will this kid do in the work force, where competition is just as fierce? what sports does this kid play, boo hoo, daddy, I can not get on the team, theres to much competition, and I am a wimp that can't stand on my own 2 feet. K well said my piece, everyone plays differently, but this is a lesson in life that this kid will all ways fall back on his father to bail him out, much more serious than a FTF, in my book any rate.
  20. I just utilized the GS twitter option, works fine for me, and for all those spooked about the boogey man tracking you down, well, post your notes after you have left the GZ, problem solved.
  21. Several caches about to be either archived, or if you want to contact me if interested in adopting, (not sure how adoption works. so will need to figure it out )
  22. Yawppy Iphone App Review The Iphone as far as I know is exclusive via At&T (Cingular) I love the Iphone. I have tried just about all the apps in regards to Caching. Above link is my personal reviews of those apps. I have hunted down caches via the iphone, but still primarily use the GPS'r. The I phone thus far I have had no connectivity issues. You have Edge, 3G, and WIFI. There are several times the Iphone has thwarted a DNF for me, with sat pics, and instant info, it is a great caching tool. However it is also the most fragile. I am always worried of losing it, or damaging it. I went with a hard shell case, for caching purposes. They have apps, which will e-mail your location, which I use extensively, not just to update the outside world of my location in case of EMC's, but also to pinpoint possible cache hide spots, or for a slide show, Earthscape is the app to use for this, GPS ALLY is also great to have. GC Buddy is another cool app for multi and "?" caches, as well as to help keep track of my cache hide data. I have also learned of several apps that work great in solving "?" caches. The possibilities are endless Ok well I could go on, and on. With the many uses, whew! But the bottom line is.. if you can get an Iphone...grab it. It is a great tool, it does not replace the GPS'r, but you will have additional information, less need for PQ's, and BETTER communication to the world.
  23. Well, this is OP. TodayI just went out for a cache, named GC1NZY6. I have no issues with the cache, or the listing. But just to prove my OP point, I stated in my listing the same as this posting. Here is the listing "This cache is placed to honor all those who have served our country and who are still serving. To all those who have sacrificed and to those who are still out there keeping us safe . . . THANKYOU!!! Take a minute today & thank a Veteran for your freedom." This cache is reviewed by a different reviewer, but still, what is the difference? I still got the listing posted, but was unable to keep the same, or very similar passage in the listing. I know life is never going to be a level, and fair field. I know there are no precedents, and I have moved on. But where is the agenda, what is so wrong with honoring a memorial, etc.Just wanted to point out, what was referenced to me by another local cacher.
