  1. Note if you use a phone include the phone make and app used. Iphone 4 Groundspeak App (Of course!) Wherigo (Only Twice as I needed it when I stumbled across my 1st to WI'Go's) HistoricPlaces (Waymarking) Geosphere (Off line resource) Geopherlite Cacheme (Have it..test out, perhaps one day one will be nearby) Route4me (Perfect for routing a string of caches) GCbuddy (A 5* app in IMHO) Ethercache AvenueSee URHere Free City Compass Munzee (New in Beta) GoWalla (Perfect "Virtual" IMHO) CommandoCompass (Tweaked up Compass) Memory-Maps (Topo maps offline) Theodolite Numerous "?" solving apps, trail apps, state guides etc. What GPSr Make and Model do you use? Oregon 550T On a scale of 1 (terrible) to 10 (best) what would you rate your GPSr? 8 What is the best feature of your GPSr you like best? The Digital Camera and Touch Screen What is the worst thing about your GPSr? A tough question, as I really can not think of a wort thing, there is what I call the nag screen, but over all performs well. And finally If you were to get a new GPSr, which one would you want next? I have no idea quite content , would have to research a bit before answering.
  2. This has happened to me on occasion... My solution is similar to the "mud" scenario, but a bit better,IMHO. I usually have my pocket knife, and a lighter. I'll scratch my initials/handle, then sharpen the tip of the stick like a pencil, then light it , and blow it out, using the coal to write over the carvings, and then smear away the excess, (similar to etching) works like a charm, coal stays a bit, the carving holds it, then I will also post it in the online log. However, I now have a pen attached to my GPS'r Lanyard, so I am quite sure it will be a while till I need yet another twig!
  3. Got 2 printed...now just need deployment!
  4. I'd Love it if too if GS would implement the QR, but the have already banned the "Ethercaches", seems to me this too would be to much for them, but one never knows! GL on the 1st "M" in europe... They have just one wing thus far, and I was going to do one here in New England, but can not seem to get one going. Cache on!
  5. I was stumbling about the web, and came across a new IPhone/cache site of sorts App..MunzeeI checked out the web site... not all there (will it ever? Not sure!), but the app is nice but they have a long way to go before it is main stream, heck closest Munzee to me is 2000 miles west.. and the web sites map is not even up, app map works tho. I have toodled with Gowalla, 4 squares, ethercache and a few others, but this Munzee... well sounds quite cool, sort of like the Ether-cache App, only this keeps a score (So numbers do count here!) They hide a cache much like Geocaching, but the difference is... you scan or capture the QR code. How cool would that be? Imagine the possibilities this presents, A micro IE: place a QR code onto a sticker, can be placed just about any where any place, perhaps even with in a building, perhaps that is to far fetched, but it would eliminate water logged log books! the muzee's range in size as well, so I imagine swag would still be swapped. Trackables.. Snap a few pics, create your own icon, and I think you could just whip up a QR code linked to a web site with the collage of pic. Perhaps create a QR code with the tracking code.. no more lost trackables. Environmentally safer? Perhaps it might be a greener route one way , as you really would not need a container, but then a lot of plastics would not be in play, ... oh the possibilities. K well just wanted to see what folks think of this "Munzee" approach, a QR Log. Perhaps other possibilities? I would love to hear of "other" similar sites or apps.
  6. Looks like a cacher may have over ACHIEVED here, guess that is better than under ACHIEVING!
  7. Just noticed a lis of apps.. so here is my list: IP4: GCBuddy: A good app..(price eludes me) but a great app to track "?" clues, and multis, also I use it to document my hides, just a good app to have handy. URHereFree (paid offers unlimited maps): A nice app..shoot a pic of the trail map, it generates a "you are here" map, I have used it with a 50/50 good result. Theodolite: A Pretty cool compass ..more for thrills..but may be usefull one day Commander Compass (lite): fun cool compass. Coordinates: Free or .99.. get the .99 for a great cord converter, free limits it to just DMS and DM.m., allows email or text to let the wife know where the heck u r! Memory-Map: Have not used it much yet, but has topo maps keeps tracks, waypoints etc.. believe it's free. Genius Scan: Love this app..for caching, and just everyday use. Get it, snaps good pics, I'll snap a pic of GC's/TB's, or maps, and it's just great to keep documentation. Koredeko: A Picture viewer..gps cords attached w/ map..kool Geosphere, GPSMotion X, Got to many PIC apps..but here are some of my most used: Gorillacam SneakyPix Grungelive Lenses Imajicam VideoPano 360 pano Magicshutter shockmypic K well thats some of the apps I have, Gotta stop visiting the store! LOL
  8. Hovering works fine for me. Mac OS X, Firefox 4.0.1 That is a mouse click, Used to be if you just hovered on the cache, a small box wit cache title only would appear, I can click the cache and get the depicted result, but the hover, nothing appears, click and you get the title and all basic info.
  9. Wondering myself..attached a screen cap above. Anyone..a new cache type perhaps?
  10. JUST A QUICK NOTE TO THE QUOTE.. I THINK IT LOOKS GREAT, YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE THE BACKGROUND .JPG.. MY OPINION. K now I am on firefox 4.. I just checked out the Beta Maps, Personalization..worked for me fine.. but have noticed that the mouse hover does not tell you the cache title. K that is functionality out.. upon exploring.. and knowing that the Icons got an over haul.. spotted the norm.. a traditional the green cache, mystery..blue "?", and multi the familiar yellow twin caches.. OK.. well then what are those two golden "twinkie looking" icons, that I know are traditionals? Will try to attach screen snap.. but text may be the only way to describe what I seen, we will see.
  11. Soon they will tax the air we breathe..not serious.. well wouldn't surprise me in the least.
  12. Great write up Bersna! I am one of the GS9 folk heading in via RI, hoping to do the complete trail. Figure I'll have the Summer off and have already requested my passport, been getting the GSAK loaded and exploring the parking locations. I will do the Allgeny, about a week prior to the GS9, and then may do the Seaway on the way home... a big maybe.. as fuel prices lay heavy for me as I can not imagine doing both with 4-6 gallon gas. I have to say that I think the Seaway will be more historical, and scenic in nature and the Falls used to be in my "backyard" as I hail from MI. So hopefully the coins there will last till another day, even if not would make for a great roadtrip! I read your write up and you mention ANOTHER geotrail? Got me to wondering.. how many of these geotrails are there, In RI there are nothing like them, I love GC's, and so would love to hear of more on these geotrails!
  13. I had my Thursday PQ list dis-appear all together, supposed to be available for 6 days, nope, also still waiting for my Fri batch.. sluggish... do'nt think so, still trying to figure out what happened. Anyone?
  14. This has been done , there have been several "Labeled" Sigs that I have seen, as well as the ol' Biz Card Sig, what can be done, well nothing really. Yep it is aggravating to get the ol' Blank log, but well I just have to say that is just the way it goes. I have just recently started C&P L's, after I JB'd the IP4, there was an app, that allows you to create tags" to be able to just paste on the fly. So I have populated that list with several "Found It Logs" and "a typical Frowney Log", saves time , but only uses it on the typical cache, the not so typicals get a fresh log! Everyone plays it their way! K TY Yawppy
  15. Thursday night, I wanted to run a few PQ's, the usual, done them plenty in the past, no issues. So I set it up for a series of 15 PQ's, THU=5, ( Got em sort of), FRI=5 Sat=5 So had gotten the first in a series of 10, uploaded the first 5 into geosphere (IP4 App) , decided to wait to upload them to GSAK, after all the results ARE SUPPOSED to be available for 6 days. Here it is FRI, my THU results are null and void gone, except for on GEOsphere, not sure how I can get them from Gsphere to GSAK, and as for my FRI's PQ allotment of 5... they are not running at all. Just curious if anyone else is having an issue , is it me, or is it GS ? Also would like to know what is going on, the weekend is upon us, and I would love to run my state PQ to be fresh! K TY Yawppy
  16. Beta map is'nt working, at least not for me, shows the caches, but hit the personalize, they magically disappear, so will see what happens next.
  17. OK TY..I just went and CUT&Pasted, into an excel file, found 4, still have a one cache discrepancy, but at least it's clearing up! will try that Fcount in GSAK.. but seems like they only post one log, so again thanks for the advice and help!
  18. Kool, never crossed my mind that I may have logged a double smiley. I'll start digging, anyone have an idea as to a GSAK Macro? Curious , as usually I get emailed for a double smiley! LOL Just yesterday, had 3 fieldnotes from my IP4 post to a cache, not 2, but 3. So probably is the case. TY
  19. For sometime now I have noted a 5 cache discrepancy in my finds numbers. Not sure as to why, or what causes it, at one time thought it was Benchmarks, but have 7 of them logged, so here is what my "Stats Page Says": Your Caching Chronology *You've found 2194 caches (2189 distinct) since your first cache find on . Just curious if anyone else has this issue, and if so what to do to clear it up. TY
  20. What to do, sure everyone has their own routine, so here's mine in a nutshell: First I solve a "?" or start a MultiC, after that and have confirmed the CORDS I take a few steps. I'll first utilize the note's feature GS has placed on each listing, with the cords and solved date etc. Then add them to my trusty solved "?" notebook. Even sometimes will place them into an app on the smartphone, usually just incomplete MultiC's tho. Finally GSAK.. I use it to keep track of all incomplete MultiC's and solved MysterC's. For GSAK, What I did was created a database and named it IE:Mystery solved, "?" solved etc Grab the GPX (Right from the listing, as this ensures you get the children way points, IE: parking Trail heads) Add the cords as a children waypoint. Then I run a macro of the data base for a poi, upload it to the gps via Garmins POI LOADER, so then I have them and if in the region, can knock it off the list. When I find them, I just mark it manually. Re-run the macro, and that is it. Yep it is a bit,but routine for me, and I like to have that hard copy, just in case the machine goes down (Been there Done That!) The smartphone, is a bit tough to keep updated, so that is usually just to document my hides, and InC-MultiC's. I like the notes feature on the listing, just as a last resort. So lot of this is a fail safe method for me. Last checked have 28 to clear up! some way over seas, gotta love the lil "?"! K hope this helped.
  21. I just noticed this today... via both maps, some caches do not even show up on the beta, but do on the google. but both do not show the smileys. I just found a cache yesterday, and it does not show on the beta, or the google. Somethings a bit buggy, sure GS will get er fixed.
