  1. Awesome. I'm having the same problem, so I'll give it a try.

Congratulations to the Happy Hunters on 700, GerhardOosMP on 1300 and louwtjievdw on 200! Jinne Gerhard, ek sit 'n harde week van caching in om jou te probeer vang, dan hardloop jy weer vir my weg met 'n caching spree van jou eie!!

Thanks! It's been a blast caching in Bloemfontein - oom Louwtjie's caches are really something - and I broke the 1200 barrier as well as the 50-caches-in-a-day barrier on the same day. Now let's see if I can find every cache in Bloem before the week is out...
  4. Congratulations on the promotion Rod - this is particularly good news, because now you'll be unable to steal those FTF's out from under my nose! Wishing you all the best with the reviewing job - may lots of good things materialise out of the ROTSIP-era of SA geocaching!
  5. I totally second dakardrix's sentiments: NO!!! I unfortunately never had the chance to meet you (yet), but yes, your replacement would have his work cut out... Thanks for all the advice in the past regarding permission for cache placement, and in particular your outstanding work regarding geocaches in the KNP. I'll have to clean up Nelspruit at some stage... I'll see you around then!
  6. Hmmm. They set a new land-speed record?
  7. I got word today that I might be going rock climbing at Silvermine on Saturday... what a good excuse for a bit of caching as well! I've managed to solve "Number Crunch" in the meantime, but the second number crunch and Dog's Breakfast still evade me. I'll bash them again tomorrow.
  8. I had a look at Rivet, solved it in 30 seconds flat and had high hopes for the other three... alas, they are unsolved still. But I'll be sure to try to crack them - they remind me very much of the "puzzle triangle" in the Netherlands between Delft, Leiden and Den Haag. There are some seriously nasty puzzles! Have a look at V, Match the Icons, Kris Kras, and many others in the area.
  9. Hey! I'm in Stellenbosch at the moment for a little bit of quality time with my study leader. Of course, I'll take off a few hours on Saturday 6 March to geocache. Any volunteers to join me? The plan is to clear the few caches around Stellenbosch that doesn't require hiking (the fine wines series come to mind), and perhaps head into Somerset West's direction to pick up a few. Too bad I can't join ya'll on Sunday for the Big Hike... unless you promise to have my back at my car by 11am, because my flight back to Pretoria leaves at 13:00!
  10. A little belated, but rather late than never! Thank you SO much to iPajero who accompanied me on my caching spree, and handed out handy tips and hints at certain caches. They even took me to the beach (for an earthcache) shortly before I had to catch my flight back to Pretoria. Many thanks to iNokia who joined us for some time - his input prevented me from getting bitten searching for caches in places where there was nothing to be found. It was a pleasure meeting and caching with you all. I will surely return the favour when you visit Pretoria!
  11. I'm placing the two I have over the weekend... but then I might pick some up as well, so...

Many congratulations to the Happy Hunters on achieving the big 500! Good luck with the next 500...
  13. Only if you pay for the flight! Hmm. I'll have a word with my boss.
  14. I'll be going to Grahamstown for a business trip on 12-13 February, and I'm organising my flight to leave the afternoon of 14 February. I would like to cache around East London on the 14th. Anyone want to join me?
  15. Well, my micro-count is way to high as it stands... but it's hard to say no... uh-oh, I think my eye is twitching. Give me a minute to think... <1 minute later> I'm SO there!
  16. I haven't had internet access for a while. Of course all the questions I could answer had to appear in that time! (; I just have a comment about the Einstein & Toblerone: it's almost certainly a myth that Einstein signed the patent for Toblerone. It's true that Einstein worked in the Swiss patent office during the time that the patent for Toblerone was signed, but that's where it ends. Unfortunately the story attached to the myth is so pleasant that it's unlikely to die anytime soon...

    Earthcaches

Awesome! I just submitted my new earthcache... and it was published within 2 MINUTES! Plenty of platinum stars for geoaware!
  18. Does that include mosks as well? Then I'd say that old one in Cairo... no idea what it's called... where the First Islamic Cairo cache is located?

    Well done to the Happy Hunters on reaching 400! It was quite a December you had... can we expect 500 before the end of January? (;
  20. Food? Perhaps due to some epidemic that left people quarantined in their homes?
  21. I know my dad generally writes very short logs, but this is simply because he really struggles to express himself in written form. I've found caches with him that a really enjoyed (like GC1BZ2Q), but it just doesn't come across in his logs. I know of other people as well who can't write a paragraph to save their life, so I would guess a fair number of short-loggers also belong to this category. I've also met a cacher who has been caching for a year or so, but doesn't enjoy writing at all, so she hasn't logged a single cache online. On my recent inspection of one of my caches, I found a name or two in the logbook that isn't on the online logs, so I'm guessing she isn't the only one. So in general, I don't take offense at short logs, and I don't attach any meaning to them. My rule of thumb is that I assume the logger enjoyed my cache but is just not good (yet) at logging. By now I have a fair idea of which of my caches are good and which are not so good, so to me, a short log on a cache I know is good is still a positive log. I'll only sit up and pay attention if there is justified criticism in a log, or if a log alerts me to new developments around my cache of which I was not aware of.
  22. Now that I think about it, I do believe that CH is right and they are Dutch. SO many Dutch geocachers have Smurf names!
  23. I remember having a conversation with someone about the smurfs a while back, when I was still in Holland. If I remember correctly the Smurfs are a French creation, but I have no idea when they started. I would guess in the 1930s, around the same time as TinTin.
  24. That would explain the rapid answer! I only read this thread now and then..... I actually can't remember that question... it's just something I knew anyway! Go figure. q:
