So... very old request. Did anyone happen to download the podcast linked to above? The website seems to be down and I'd like a copy.
  2. The Historical Marker Database is a user-maintained database of, you guessed it, historical markers. South Africa doesn't really feature on it, so it might be a good idea to populate it with points of interest. I've added a few entries, and I know someone from Cape Town has added a couple of well. I suspect CapeDoc might find this kind of thing interesting.
  3. I hope this one is still alive in 10 years' time, since I'll probably only be able to claim it by then.

  5. Having done 20 of the naaktslakkies caches, those favourite points are VERY much deserved. The couple's hides are very creative indeed.
  6. You can also look here: http://project-gc.com/TopLists/top/?profile_name=&profile_country=&country=South+Africa&region=&county=&fromyyyy=&frommm=&fromdd=&toyyyy=&tomm=&todd=&submit=Filter&submitbutton=Filter (Neat presentation, but the data is unfortunately usually outdated.) Notice how visible the GPS Series effect is in this graph. The series was published on 22 July 2011. Only MEGA Day can compete on any level.

Very nice indeed, even if it is a little outdated. I managed to find a stat where I can give iPajero a run for his money!

    Milestones

Awww, thanks everyone. It's been an amazing (still-ongoing) time in Cape Town. Maybe it's a good thing I didn't make the Otter, since I'm only on day three of hiking around the peninsula, en my lyf is die moer in vir my. Thanks to cownchicken and AndyT1 in particular for slogging along on Frodo's Journey. Due to some poor planning from my side I didn't quite manage to get my #2000 on Frodo, but in the end it is just as well, since I discovered afterwards that I miscalculated anyway - I logged two caches that I thought I didn't...
  10. I hope that's a joke Doc? Nope Has 'Doc crossed over to the dark side? I bet it will have a lot to do with physical power... and maybe a bit of intellectual as well... Hopefully it will be in place by the time I rock up in Cape Town...
  11. (Got any bread yet?) Maybe the town doesn't, but I bought bulk last week and stuck it in the freezer.
  12. Where there is a will, there is a way, and the will is strong in this one. I'll be in Cape Town by next week.
  13. During the MEGA, my cache centroid dropped below the equator for the first time in 4 years: S 0° 31.063 E 18° 48.539. It will probably take several more years for it to enter Southern Africa again.
  14. The DeWet's are so in for this Just a reminder that Frodo's Journey is now taking place on Sunday 4 November.
  15. I have managed to secure leave for the week, so there won't be any rush on Sunday. Let's hope the weather plays along.
  16. I was thinking of doing the whole shebang - Traverse/Reverse & the Kloof Corner caches. But I'm flexible, depending on who can make which trip.
  17. Frodo's Journey: 3 November 2012 I will be visiting Cape Town once again in the hope of securing my 2000th find on Frodo's Journey! The date is Saturday 3 November and some company (and hike leaders!) would be much appreciated. I haven't done any of the caches on route to Frodo's Journey yet, so some careful planning (and possibly some luck) would be needed to ensure that Frodo gets my 2000th smiley. Any takers?
  18. As far as I know this is standard practice for MEGA events, to cover the costs of organising it.
  19. I'm not particularly concerned if people want to log caches they didn't visit - it's no skin off my nose, and since the existence of the power trail, numbers have become irrelevant to me anyway. However, I do from time to time crosscheck my logbook with online logs and will delete offending logs if it's a clear armchair log (I'm more lenient towards newbies who might not have realised in time that signing the logbook is essential). The one exception I make is on my earthcaches - I don't let anyone log without giving me some indication that they have visited the site.
  20. 3 continents for me, but I'll be adding a fourth, and possibly a fifth this July! Country count is currently 11, which will be upped to 12 and maybe 13. After this trip, I'll only need Oceania. And Antarctica... and then I'll set my sights on that one in the space station.
  21. This stat seems to count the number of characters in the HTML file rather than the actual number of characters in the cache listing. I had a look at the "longest" cache listing - it's only about 11,000 characters long, but there are large chunks of superfluous HTML code that pushes the character count up to over 70,000. Somehow I don't think there is a way to easily count the number of characters in the actual cache text... but hopefully I'm wrong! Edit: I'm probably wrong: how would you even define the character count in Gardens Puzzler 2? Lots of code to make the crossword, which results in a very "short" listing.
  22. Whoo hoo! Rock on Zambeziboy! Henzz, you and paddawan are next, right?
  23. Thanks for the notification - all sorted now.
