  1. After hours off looking at the new Garmins .. I got another 76CSX To be honest .. I could not see any advantage of the newer units over a 76CSX and I know they are bullet proof (apart from battery connections) So Old one gets moved to backup device.. New one is looking all shiney
  2. The format of the PQs coming out today seem strange, the ones yesterday were fine. Possibly why there seems to ne a lot of GSAK issues being reported today. Is this the new format or an oops. This is before I go and rewrite my application which I use to load all PQ's. Thanks Sue
  3. Topic says it all ..After years of using NiMH's I have broke the (both) battery contacts as NiMh's seem a "little longer" than Alkalines.. Units has given me years of great service and does actually still work .. As it was out of warranty I soldered additional contacts into the device, however if I knock the unit on something it will often turn off, So I'm uncomfortable with depending upon it .. I'll relegate it to a backup unit I use Topo GB V2 Maps on it whilst in the Uk and City Nav NA when I am in the USA Thoughts are Another 76CSX as to be honest its a great device and does what we need.. Or Choices would be a Oregon or a Colorado ? Comments / Advice / feedback appreciated Also can some one remind me the Garmin Licensing situation .. Its some time since I looked .. Can I still register a map set on 2 Devices ?? Thanks
  4. Me too - I have an email to say shipped. I'd even forgotten I'd ordered them so this was a nice surprise. Sue
  5. just heard the sonic boomm.. Santa is hitting Europe and close to the UK Merry Christmas All
  6. In theory .. yes .. however these days courtesy of the many "security" rules wrt flying .. the answer is "who knows" First rule is do what a crew member instructs - no arguments.. no debate . smile and do it The Airlines each have their own policies if they do or do not allow GPS receivers to be used while onboard the aircraft. its often listed in the in flight magazine.. Doing LHR to LA every month I know, the Virgin magazine says NO If its not in the magazine, Years ago you used to be able to ask the cabin crew to "ask the captain if it is ok" .. IMO now a days they dont ask and just say no Sometimes your lucky and the airline web site has the policy on it British Airways web site says yes http://www.britishairways.com/travel/gsans...k=searchResults "Electronic games, iPods, iPaqs, small radios, tape and disc players, miniature television receivers, GPS receivers and similar entertainment equipment have negligible effect on aircraft systems and may be used during flight, but must be switched off during take-off, approach and landing."
  7. if it helps ... SMS is limited to 160 characters for text messaging transport in every network in the world (assuming 7 bit encoding) .. its a standard courtesy of 3GPP Concatenated SMS, multipart or segmented SMS or "long sms" can be sent using multiple messages, in which case each message will start with a user data header containing segmentation information. Since UDH is inside the payload, the number of characters per segment is lower: 153 for 7-bit encoding. The receiving handset is then responsible for reassembling the message and presenting it to the user as one long message. While the standard theoretically permits up to 255 segments - 6 to 8 segment messages are the practical maximum in most networks
  8. no idea what you mean ..... as if there would be another use for them
  9. lol ... I see a request for a new code coming along. Sue
  10. I was really hoping you were going to say - you find it "here". We're away from home at the moment and wanted to set up cache mate on my backup PDA which I forgot to do before I left home. Sue
  11. another vote for a home grown access database for me. It sort of grew out of the one I was using to process GPX files, track caches and travel bugs so it's all integrated for those coins I do end up activating. I also use GeoCoin Collecting pages which sort of works well to cross reference for when I forget to update one or the other and easier to publish seeking and for trade lists. Sue
  12. I also use cachemate after initially using it on the Palm. Works the same on a windows mobile device so no problem with the transition. Sue
  13. If you had just Googled Garmin oregon London you would have come up with this Oregon LiS web page says its sold out .. I'd say they dont have it in yet .. GPSWarehouse says "Coming mid August 2008, pre-orders taken now. " http://www.gpsw.co.uk/details/prod4065.html I'd call them and ask 020 8893 9393
  14. we used to dive in Orkney - flew up London - Aberdeen - Kirkwall then hired a mini bus from the airport. Then found out it was the local bus. No wonder people tried to stop it for a lift :-) Sue
  15. I think it's a fun coin - innuendos or not. They are only there if you want them to be - very much like cartoons these days aimed for 2 levels of viewing. Children who take it innocently at face value, and adults who can add in any innuendo they want to. LE set ordered Sue
  16. There's also a little utility that will rename the saved files in a folder according to the gpx tag which reflects the pq name - strangely enough called PQName. I've been trying to find out where I got it from and no luck sorry. Sue
  17. I know the pages says 40 but last time I tried to create my 40th I was told I already had the max. So like you I could only created 39 - so maybe the finds query although special is being counted. Not had any problems with the 5 a day though - mind you I don't run finds that often.
  18. I think most of The Klever Boys coins are activated but not necessarily placed in caches. Some are for discovering at events - but still a hefty inbox potential. The coin trade page list them as having a lot more in possession if you include those coins which are spare and for trade - and that is not including those missing from that site. I don't mind that as I've benefited a number of times in setting up trades with th Sue (625 coins ownedand keeping, a further 119 available for trade - pitiful compared with Russ)
  19. you need to keep the motto - it's good. After all cameras do need those spares too :-) Sue
  20. Can't quite justify the silver one (yet) - however I had missed the initial email and have just purchased a couple of the originals. Sue
  21. following on from the idea from tsunrisebey and combining it with my earlier one side "Now you see me" with a magifying glass over the numbers making them legible the other "Now you don't" with really small numbers - maybe the same as those on side 1 Sue
  22. another vote for presales here. Often with reservations all the requests for payment come at the same time. Agreed this would tend to work better for those with a good reputation as I have at least one reservation at the moment which seems to have gone into a black hole. Also from our own experience developing a coin can take way longer than anticipated. Sue
