  1. Not to be unsympathetic but have you tried switching them off and then back on again Its supposed to work for everything else in life
  2. If you are struggling at this time of year wait until the snows.. I'd say leaf well alone.... until the spring...but I'm tooo obsessed
  3. Sorry to hear about your loss. I Know that feeling! Put mine on the roof of the car while talking got in and drove off, fortunately as i braked for the first junction it slid forward and down the windscreen coming to rest on the windscreen wipers! How lucky was i A few weeks later i dropped it and it landed face down on soft earth with just one stone visible and that was enough Shattered the screen, £100 and 4 days later a replacement arrived. But this one does not display the contact details on start up for some reason!
  4. There are boring ones, but that can be said for all cache sizes. Have a look at the logs on this one http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...9b-8af679437cb2 or this one http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...89-15db19d04bfe Both are Nano's and the logs speak for themselves..... if you ignore this type/size of cache you will miss out on some good ones..... I'd like an easily found nano in a park if an ammo can couldn't be used. I'll agree to that. The second cache you posted doesn't sound like one I'd like. No walk, no good view. Just that I haven't come across that yet. Hopefully I do! I guess I could filter based on scenic view? Is that possible? The first due to the proximity of other caches could only really be placed where it is and the container was aptly named for the location... the second was placed once again because of the adjacent building (have a look on google map) the first circular public Library in the country and once again fitted the cache and theme, which does merit a cache.
  5. For those struggling with the logs in Nano's Unroll and sign the log, this is best done with your initials as full name quickly fill the logs. Fold one end of the log with a right angle, about 1 cm, using this this as a hold roll the rest of the log around the fold, this gives you some purchase on the log and you can tighten the log so that ot will fit easily back into the container. Small fingers help, but as mine are like sausages and i use this method when out in the field. Although being a Scout i also carry a trusty swiss army knife with tweezers, and these little tweezers are perfect for the job.

  7. Hi all Just a thought as there seems to be a lot of negative vibes about Nano caches. So here goes..... who likes them and why ? I personally like them, well i do when i hide them... I have hidden 9 so far out of the total of 60 caches that i have hidden, and by far the best feed back i get are about the Nano's. So do other cachers enjoy hides like mine, which are the best ones you have done (possibly to give me more ideas!) I must admit, apart from a couple of plain Nano's which have replaced smalls that keep getting muggled, mine are disguised to become fun nano's.... So come on are they really like marmite do you either love em or hate em?
  8. You need to look for some of mine, my pine cone is probably my least imaginative! not all nanos are horrible or in bad places.
  9. Oh whats wrong with nano's i like them! Especially trying to roll the logs back up! I much prefer to find a descent nano than an an ammo can placed with out imagination, but i also like to find a well thought out ammo can than a nano placed without imagination. So really we just need to get cachers to think about what is right and imaginative before placing any caches.
  10. You can also upload 20 caches at a time form Garmin.com in the My Extras Section
  11. We attended the WSM mega and the countdown to Swansea event and did not spot this at either, other wise i would have logged it. I personally think that such a trackable would be more special if it was only logable at mega events. Advertising that it will be at the events would make sense, but dont log it in and out of those, keep the records clean so that the locations are only at the mega itself and the run up events. However this is now a bit of a waste because it has already been soiled, but it would have been nice to discover something that has been to all the megas and only seen by those in attendance.
  12. I have just had this one published http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...b6-ce6693c8db05 This is a remembrance cache but also a sneaky hide, hope fully it will provoke a thought from the finder if they can find it. Had a few problems getting it published as i wanted to include details from the British Legions Poppy Apeal in the listing. I will be in attendance on Sunday for the service.
  13. Well welcome along, and i wouldn't no who to guess for!
  14. Hi Mapsource will only display Garmin Maps from a DVD that you load from Mapsource to your device, but not the other way round.
  15. Hi Was that People or Caching Teams? As there were 4 in our team! Just to correct you on the attendee numbers as the only UK Mega Event to have exceeded 1200 was Mega Scotland. The 'official' registration numbers (people, not teams) on the days were as follows: 2008 - The UK's First Mega Event: 928 people 2009 - The UK's Second Mega Event (Weston-super-Mega): 1044 people 2010 - Mega Scotland - The UK's 3rd Mega Event: 1301 people
  16. Hi Most garmin units will download the coords directly from GC, but the older ones do not do it so well. the basic Etrex will as long as you have the leads, and all models that have USB leads will. However they will only do 1 cache at a time from GC, but 20 at a time from the garmin website ( but only traditional caches ). The newer Colorado, Oregon and Dekota models will allow pocket queries from GC allowing 500-1000 caches to be downloaded at once. hope this helps
  17. Hi Most of the the information given is good, but a good way of doing this is to combine orienteering and geocaching. This way you can use the GPSr's in conjunction with maps and compasses, the orienteering side of things will give you a scoring system as per a normal event. But hide the containers close by but not directly under the markers. For encouragement hide only one packet of smarties in each container, but place around 20 and explain this before you start so the sixes do not all head for the closest one first, as only the first group will get the sweets. This works well to get them going in different directions from the offset. It is also more likely that the leaders will have a orienteering course that is local and used regularly which helps with planning and risk assessments etc. Also on the hole setting geocaches with cubs is generally not good, particularly in the local area as the temptation for them to show their mates is great, and this can lead to muggling. Also most Scout caches tend to fall fowl on maintenance issues and are short lived, however there are exceptions as i should know as many of my caches are Scout caches! But i look after these so they are all perfect
  18. Hello and welcome to the mad world of geocaching. You are in the right location for the UK section so we should at least speak the same lingo This is the best place to follow what is going on locally well in the Uk, and if you have any questions dont be scared to ask. Watch out for the search box, as what ever you search for must have 5 or more charcters otherwise it does not work. There are quite a few cachers who do not use GPSr's but in the long run you will find it easier with one especially out in the country side, which is generally where the better caches are. Well done on your first find only 1,214,913 to go. Happy Caching
  19. Ok so 10.10.10 went off well with over 78000 cachers logging find on the day but what next? The general feeling seems to be heading to 11.11.11 however here in the UK this will be real conflict. You see 11.11 for us here is Remembrance Day or Armistice Day, the day that we remember our fallen soldiers. In fact it is the day we pay tribute to all those who have lost their live in conflict through out history. I would hope that most cachers here will be in attendance at some service or at the very least observe the traditional two minute silence that occurs at 11.00 on the 11th of the 11th. So as you can see that this would not be conducive of an event. So if the powers that be could take note of this in their planning for next years attempt at the record for the most cachers logging on at once, it might be wise. So i propose a 9.10.11 event at 07.08 am ok it might be early but at least it would be achievable. So the real question is what do you all think?
  20. I had this log recently on one of my bugs, and i didnt even know it was missing. "I get this Item at a petrol station! A Woman ask me about the Caching-Sticker on my car. After a small talk she give me this item. It'a very nice coin! I was in england in 1995. And I like lots of british things.... Stonehenge, Hot Fuzz, Doctor Who, Torchwood, vinegar chips, etc.... Next year i want to Scotland.... " I am just happy it was handed over.
  21. There is another way. Copy all the info in to a word doc or similar and put the cache on your watch list. If no action is taken by the cache owner and it is archived, publish a new cache with the same name with the info from the original listing but list the cache owner as the original and you in the title . that way you will have your cake and eat it. as both the cache will be back for all to find and you can carry on the maintenance, this has been done near me and i have also partially done this to a cache i cycle past each day. If the original CO does come back on the scene they will be able to contact you and you could adopt it back if necessary.
  22. Well i will be logging my finds on sunday, probably just after i get back from my local 101010101010 or 42 meet
  23. This may not help but might shed more light on the problem. using windows explorer or similar look for the text file and open it up in wordpad or similar. If you can see the entry's then the file is there, but it maybe full if so delete some of the earlier entries. If its not there then that may help pin point the problem
