  1. Well when the Vista HCX first came out I found an awsome case for it on Amazon, made by Foarm. They are no longer available, and I want to find a case for the new Legend HCX. What do you guys perfer? I noticed two that kinda seem to be everywhere, One that has just a hole for the rocker stick, and sides, and then the other that has the case contoured in on both sides around the Rocker stick. Any recomendations? I want a case that is a usable case not just a carry case. Thanks
  2. So I spent several hours last night trying to add my CV8NT to my Legend HCX. This will be the second unit. I go through it every which way from sunday, tried every option that it had. Both in the unlock wizard, and online. Spent like 3 hours on it last night, I had input every number including the customer number from when i loaded it onto the Vista that got stolen. Simple question... do I need a new customer number? Everything else seemed to work on, my 25dig number, my ser. number, my unit ID number. But I would get only sofar even after imputting the old customer number, that a little box would come up and say "No Customer Number entered" Yes I did register the Legend with Garmin already. Any ideas? I was hoping to get it loaded to take with me to Ocean Shores tonight. But alas perhaps Topo will be the best I can get on it.
  3. I have to 2 gb chip here, but I am wondering what the limit is on the Legend HCX and Venture CX series. Will they take 8gb or 4 gb chips? i remember that I was onlu able to get about half of the US for City Nav and Half for Topo on a 2gb chip when I had my Vista before it got stolen.
  4. I had my Vista stolen over Memorial day weekend. It had both City Nav 8 NT on it, and Topo. I went through Garmin to track down the serial number for the Police, so they are aware it was stolen. Will they give me a new Unlock code for City Nav and Topo? Also kinda silly, but I bid on a Venture CX that was way low priced, and I think I will win it, but I also for last night a Legend HCX at extreme low price and bought it. Seller recieved it as a gift, used it once and got an Oregon. $60 shipped. So my other question is this, will Garmin allow me to put my City Nav and Topo on both units? And will an un-lock code be good for more then one unit?
  5. well over Memorial day, my Vista got stolen out of the truck. Insurance won't cover it, Homeowners want BIG money deductable. Just not worth it. On the other hand I don't have the extra cash to just run out and replace it. So I am checking the auction sites for a tempory replacement, Found that the Venture CX models, are very affordable. Along with the rest of the CX model line. I use it for Geocaching, and for on the road and hiking with City Nav and Topo. I do plan to get another HCX but not for a while til I am more flush. So thoughts?
  6. Well I stopped to pick up some pasta and sauce last night, and left the drivers window down barely 1 1/2" and some got a hold of the Etrex in it's cradle and yanked it out, and broke the cradle to get it. barely 4 mins in the store came out and found the broken cradle on the seat. What should I replace it with?
  7. I started out looking for city navigator then found a case and then it occurred to me that I need a mount for my HCX also. I like the RAM products and am pretty familar with them. It there a better windshield mount then theirs? Or should I go ahead and order it for $30
  8. First off I'll probablly be flamed as I have seen on here with other low count posters, cause I have only 2 finds and here I am making suggestions and noting my frustrations. So be it. First off i started Geocaching in 2003. But where I lived then had no geocaches and I had a 40 mile drive to the closest. So I started looking in Seattle when I visited. I found one, and the other I looked for ran me over 1.5mi back and forth in apark for a 5 part puzzle that made great promises in the description and turned outto be a micro. I got annoyed and frustrated and stopped playing. That cache is no longer listed I saw. I am now back as I have moved to the city. So I have just gotten mystuff together and started looking locally over the last couple of days. I have tried for about 45 caches in the last 2 days and have formed some thoughts on the game Observation 1: Hide it well enough so a muggle doesn't find it but not so hard that a person who is looking for can't find it. Such as burying a film canister. The goal isn't to make it so hard that no one can find it. There are hides that seem to be done to keep it hidden from the cachers on purpose. Hides that have a bunch of DNF's but the hider assures me it is there he just hid it REALLY well. Observation and suggestion 2: I wish and perfer the hides that tell you what the container is so you at least know what you are looking for. Observation 3. The just vague coords in a populated area make it overly tough and unfun. I don't like to have to search 100' of Holly covered rockery for a film container on a busy street with no shoulder. Or the middle of a 30' diameter juniper bush for a film container. Or a nettle infest swamp that has be come so overgrown as to require hacking into it with a machete. There is a point where fun ends. Although this time around i am in the city and invested in the game so i shall carry on. What are some other's ideas and observations
  9. Well I finally called walmart help, and it has shipped and is on the delivery truck so it should be here today or tommorrow. I don't care as long as it's before the weekend. Apparently I didn't get the "Shipped notice" and they don't know why it is still listed as processing as it was out and on the truck headed my way today. Well live and learn, at least I'll have it for vacation.
  10. I am still listed as "Processing" after 48 hours and it is supposed to be delivered today or tommorrow. Is this normal for WM.com, to leave processing up til the very end? Since I am leaving for vacation I wanted to get it fast so I payed for the 1 day shipping. I ordered around 10am on the 22nd, order was listed on their tracking section as processing around 4pm same day, and hasn't changed since. Will It change before i have it in hand? This is my 1st order with WM.com although I know their stores well enough. Just curious to see what the process and expectations I hsould have are.
  11. Ok so I am waiting (impatiently) for a vista HcX to show up here at the house today or tommorrow. And I realized I had made one slight oversight. A case for the vista. What dos everyone else use and like and why? I have heard that some cases made for the vista won't fit the vista HcX model cause it is supposedly slightly bigger? True, False? Thanks
  12. I went into Bass Pro yesterday where they had the Vista HCx in stock for $299. I told them about the walmart price on the internet and they matched it right there in the store. Doc / Frisco Finders I hate Mal-Wart, but alas they have it in stock and at the same price as OffRoute.com. I cancelled my order with offroute and went with Mal-Wart. with the fast 1 day shipping it came in at the same preice as offroute but then had to add TAX I mainly did this because the ship date from off route is now up to the 7/31
  13. Ok so I have heard of being stopped and asked what a cacher was doing a couple of times. Recently I was told about being stopped by a Port of seattle police officer and asked what they were doing cause some security guard noticed them walking around in a seattle park bordering a gov facility that the guard was at. Although It isn't a cure all I would like to do up or get some muggle cards to be able to hand them along with talking to the people. What should the cards say?
  14. Kinda cool, 5 hrs for 90% recharge in USB and capable of being recharged in Approved chargers for a 7hr recharge time. Myself, i'd be worried I'd chuck um out of habit, but that is just me. I wonder how these compare to some of the hi-end stre bought batteries?
  15. Well I looked around Amazon and followed a couple of their links and came to this: http://www.megagps.com/index.asp?PageActio...mp;Category=112 particarlly the Legend Adventure pack for $119 with case Ok here is the Vista off of Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-eTrex-Vista-H...6204&sr=1-1 $151 You could also look at the gpamap 76 series and gps map 60 series both in B/W they were under $200 everywhere I looked including some of the "Premier" boating stores. Physically bigger units then the Etrex series but possibly more bang for the buck. and the Explorist 210 although I admit that I know nothing about the explorist series.
  16. Ok I ordered the Etrex Vista HCX. With a 2 GB chip can I load the West US in topo, the west coast in city nav, and a Puget Sound blue chart? That is if, I can split the maps to the W.coast to save space on the SD card. If the programs will allow me to take the W.Coast only, would I have all three types usable on one card? Or would I have to carry multiple cards for The 3 different map types? Seeing as I am 99% of the time only on the W.Coast there really is no reason for me to load the entire US.
  17. My Ex-Girl friend bought me a man bag from old several years ago. Kinda similar to the maxpedition but flatter with a zippered main pocket, and a cd player pocket and cell pocket. Lightwieght, plenty of room for local caches and flat, easy to slide behind my back.
  18. Ok so to add to yet even more selections for me I found the 60 CSX on sale for $329, which seems like a good deal since everywhere else I have looked is $399-$499. Thoughts>?
  19. Ok, I passed on getting a mounted unit this year for my boat, I figured that I would wait and see if the CX/CsX series dropped in price. They have and HOW! 76CX - $299.99 76 CsX- $349.99 OF course now comes along the vista which I wasn't even looking at before. Vista HCX - $299.99 (no one has one I can look at though) I will be loading charts for boating on it. So what do I want? I don't know, I thought til last night that the 76CSX was the way to go, now I am debating. It will be used both for Geocaching and hiking and most definetly as a nav aid on the boat. I can have the 76 in hand immeadiatly as opposed to having to order the HCX. the HCX can be $80 to $100 less then the 76 CSX though. Right now I am using a non mapping magellan that is dying fast. Is the 2 oz difference in hiking a big deal? Is the vista's button setup gonna be that much of a hinderence compard to the 76's?
