  1. thankyou, thankyou for all your advice looked everywhere for gpx files and deleted everything we could see but the problem was still there was did the master reset and all is now well !! (until Mum does something else wrong !!)
  2. Thanks for the advice guys - Have tried deleting the visits file and running a new PQ and the same thing happens, certain caches go in the "found" section, will try the master reset and then see if that does anything !
  3. HELP ! My mum has a new (to her, second hand really)Oregon 550 gps and all is well apart from the fact that when loading pocket queries on it will always put some of the caches into the "found" section even though Mum hasn't actually found them. We have tried clearing off all the gpx and making sure the memory card is empty but all to no avail. Any ideas on what to do next to stop this happening ?? Thanks
  4. Hello Powellfamily - One of us bears maybe a long lost relation as we share the same surname !! We are up Bodmin way and think we live in one of the best counties for caching, there are some beautiful places down here - hope your caches are well received, I agree with DrDick&Vick you must get up and do some of Diggersdads caches especially PaPa's shed - one of our favourites !! We'll come down and do your caches sometime soon !
  5. You'll need more than 4 days with all this caching to fit in !! We have done a lot of caching with Lovejoy & Tinker and as we both have dogs they always accompany us so all of his suggestions are definitely ok for the hounds. Little bit further out but would suggest you have look at the Chimney Rock Ramble series by Finn&Rosie. GC13FRR Just remember your wellies and a torch !!
  6. I know its a bit fiddly but I would put each card in an envelope or something so the cacher can't see what card they are picking and it is totally random otherwise the first couple of cachers will make sure they have the best hand and then its no fun for everyone else.
  7. Looks like you have been doing it all wrong then, am amazed you managed to find any of those markers with the wrong type of torch !! Perhaps next time we should gaffer tape the torch to your head and block out some of the light with the aforementioned gaffer tape, then you should be ok to play the game properly !!
  8. Geohound Millie taking a break. She's 12 and even with a bad paw she wants to go out caching,so on goes her little hiking boot and off we go !!
  9. Ok on reading the recent logs it appears it that it MAY have gone missing but still think the cacher should have contacted the CO as speakers corner says and done it as a maintenance visit.
  10. Have heard of this happening before - bloody cheek of it is my first reaction, and I would be rather cross if that was my cache, shall we just all go throwing out log books when we have DNFs ?? Came across something similar on one of our hunts, cache was placed near a letterboxing site so people were finding the letterbox and leaving bits of paper in there, even though it clearly was a letterbox with a stamper in it and no log book. Suppose some people will do anything just to get that smiley !!
  11. it never ceases to amaze what some people will do for "entertainment",glad to hear the police want to do something about it and hopefully the perps will get their comeuppance. Keep smiling Jacaru.. x
  12. I think the problem was probably the loose nut that keeps the GPS from falling on the ground
  13. Hoorah - thanks chaps they were right where you said they would be !! Told you it would be user rather than unit malfunction !!
  14. Been having a few issues with my Oregon, have downloaded the latest update but it has wiped off the MOB function (not really going to need this one me thinks - don't like boats at the best of times !!) the Waypoint Averager and the Sight & Go thingamibob. Not played with the Sight & Go but the averager was proving useful. Have I done something wrong ??- am a bit rubbish with all these technical things so its a distinct possibility that its user malfunction rather than unit malfunction !!
  15. The argument folk make about that is that for people living in areas with few caches, 100 is a LOT to find. I think I am in favour of a time period rather than a number of finds. You can find 100 in a day, can't you Birdie? Or you can take 6 months to find 100 if you are in a sparse area. But if a time limit were in place it would mean people have demonstrated that the game is not just a passing craze for them (which will be set aside after a few weeks once the initial excitement wears off), while at the same time giving them chance to find some caches and work out what makes a good location and what makes a good container. Of course you could join up, do nothing for 6 months then place a hide. But I don't think many would do that. Oooo you do have some good ideas sometimes don't you, maybe a time period is the way round it ?
  16. Caches can be moved but shouldn't they be somewhere interesting in the first place.?! We went and did a lovely series yesterday - well thought out, varying terrain, interesting mine works etc to look at on route a real pleasure to do (not in the rain tho ) and then finished the day with a c&d on the drive home that was up a murky manky lane nothing whatsoever appealing about the place,no stunning views nothing - no idea why anyone would want to walk up there. I suppose some people just want to "up the numbers". I left an honest log - looking back on the others it seems I was nearly the only one and this was by a cacher with lots of finds. Can't blame it on a newbie for just chucking it there !! Hello Bears Is it because someone desperately wants to put one out but can't be bothered to find a good place - somewher near home perhaps? Or just any old quiet spot they can think of that they know? But you are right, that hise was not a newbie. How do you police that? Tricky True, maybe it was a special place to them - can't for the life of me think why !? Its a good job we're all different and like different things otherwise the world would be a very boring place if we were all the same
  17. I think the answer to that is that in the early days new caches were needed to get the thing up and running, whereas nowadays there are plenty around, so new caches have to be judged on their intrinsic qualities. I think that a 100-find threshold would radically reduce the number of poor hides. I agree with you about a threshold but personally I would suggest a 50 find but then as my last post points out there are some cachers with plenty of hides that don't seem too enamoured about putting out nice caches !!

  19. GC11AYQ Ok that one looks fun have just had a lovely chat with Jezebel, not that she told me anything very useful have no intention of coming over and looking for it...its a long way from home but will watch and see if anyone ever finds it
  20. Bit concerned now - if you guys don't exist then who are those two weirdos we go out caching with !?
  21. Shame you're not making it as far down as Cornwall, there are some great caches down here !! Maybe next time ?!?
