  1. Have a read of the simple instructions (same settings as Oregon and Colorado) on your upload page: http://www.geocaching.com/my/uploadfieldnotes.aspx
  2. Firstly make sure your settings on the GPSr are set for True North rather than Magnetic North, otherwise a simple addition or subtraction to the number will need to be made based on you magnetic declination at your location. Several options to achieve the outcome, the easiest being using a back bearing of 192 degrees. All you need to do is walk off in this direction from the waypoint you are at and watch as the distance to go increases to 150m.....virtually the opposite of what you normally do to find a cache. Otherwise you can also project a waypoint from the location you are at and Goto this new location. Hope that helps mm
  3. yep, nice simple feature which helps when travelling an/or away mm
  4. Too easy..... http://www.geocaching.com/my/uploadfieldnotes.aspx Enjoy mm
  5. How do you know it's not the operator? mm
  6. The Dakotas are noticably smaller than the Oregons. I have the Dakota slip case and there is no way it would fit the Oregons...it is a tight fit for the Dakota. I don't believe Garmin made a soft slip case for the Oregons...have only seen hard cases. Happy to be corrected. Garmin makes the slip case for the Dakota. Hope that helps mm
  7. It is wise for him to include crosschecking data when not in the area ie. 3km north of dubai . This allows for any obvious mistakes to be corrected eg. out by 10 degrees etc. mm
  8. How about you talk about this worthy cause here rather than pumping your blog all the time. I would rather read about this geocoin here than follow hidden web addresses. mm
  9. Try xImage http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=545 Other options include G7toWin.....check this old thread for some more options: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=92740 mm
  10. Click on access your fieldnotes on the right hand side menu on your profile page, which takes you to http://www.geocaching.com/my/fieldnotes.aspx . Select your brand and read the instructions. mm
  11. Wow, that was amazing. Absolutely NOTHING happened, what a great feature. Rather than sound like a marketing speil , can you tell us what we are suppose to see, and where. Bing maps is useless outside heavily populated areas IMO (and most locations ex-US). mm
  12. If you are walking predominantely, then a pedometer is a cheap and useful investment. mm
  13. I have the HR monitor from Garmin, this version: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=10996 It works well, displays nicely on the Oregon. mm
  14. You need to change the position format to decimal minutes...... SETUP > POSITION FORMAT, select hdddmm.mmm' Hope that helps. mm
  15. Let me summarise what i just read: State the location as Back-to-front Coordinates.... Seems like someone wanted to make a catchy name for identifying your location and had to compromise to get it to sound cool. Call it LALO and be done with all the problems i say. edit: just to add....GPSr's are an "aid to navigation" and as such the concept does not allow for any human decision making in the navigation process. The good old "oh, i know smith street" is useless in all cases, eg. ALL taxi drivers would be driving blind, led to the location by a GPSr which has no understanding of the best route, local traffic conditions, roadworks, etc etc "oh i know where that is" has no meaning and makes any mistakes (off by 1 digit etc) highly likely with the consequences costly and/or timely. mm
  16. I suggest you look at this thread for some answers. mm
  17. Let's not forget that to the rest of the World (yes there is such a place) the concept of raster maps on a Garmin touchscreen is a welcome free addition. Some areas are spoilt by endless free maps and this update is great for those who are less fortunate in this regard and gives them the opportunity to place a little slice of paradise on their GPSr. Happy to push several touchscreen buttons to choose mapsets..... mm
  18. I guess they believe that personalisation of the geocoin's page is more important than mass producing a generic page. mm
  19. Is there a filesize limit to the KMZ file? A 12mb file didn't work however a compressed jpg down to 2mb works......same pixel count. mm
  20. Well done. It's good to see a positive discussion being held.....i've seen it in the past where a simple suggestion would end up close to a UN resolution needing to be passed. mm
  21. Would it be better to just implement your side of the agreement without the need for it to be part of a trade? I haven't read any of the threads mentioned, however i just see it sensible to "start the ball rolling" and let others catch up if they want to play the game. I don't believe that some people can change their communications style and as such the idea may not be as successful as one first hopes. Including your signature line as it is still seems the wrong way to go about it....."oh, i'll change it if people agree to be nice to each other" I hope you understand my opinion. mm
  22. ....and what happens when you change timezones or have daylight savings applied? zulu time (UTC) cannot be mistaken, and is far simpler to deal with when transfering data eg NMEA. mm
