Auto-Renewal Failed & Membership Expiration Notice
nittany dave replied to Vater_Araignee's topic in Website
Mine also. Note that I had to log out and back in again for it to take effect. Many thanks for resolving the issue Yep, that did it. Thanks for the tip. Sure can't count on GS to let us know. -

Auto-Renewal Failed & Membership Expiration Notice
nittany dave replied to Vater_Araignee's topic in Website
I too have been downgraded. Just out of curiosity I looked at everyone's profiles above that have also been downgraded, and every one of us has info from GSAK posted on our profile. I wonder if this is a coincidence that 100% of us that have this problem all have uploaded stats from GSAK on our profile? I don't know about the script the above poster is talking about, but, I use a GSAK macro (GenUploadstats.gsk) that auto post my stats to my profile. Maybe this is being misinterpreted by Groundspeak as malicious and they downgraded us without warning? I'm just grasping at straws though. Hope they get me fixed soon because I need a pocket query right now. Then you didn't look at my profile. I have nothing from GSAK on there, just a map of states. This just sucks. GS, get your crap together and fix this. -

Add me to the list. Please get this corrected. -
I agree with Ambrosia. In the instances that I recall, when the other side of the story, or the additional facts were finally presented, "suddenly it all comes clear and the seemingly unfixable complaint is made transparent". But in THIS case we're not getting the other side. I want to believe GS because I love this game. I don't like to think that they would archive a cache because it hasn't been found and/or local reviewers have a personal issue with a cacher, or are just backing a bad decision (we need instant replay!) but without the other side of the story, those of us without complete and unwavering faith in the lily pad are left wondering.

Objectionable Posting: You Make The Call...
nittany dave replied to OzGuff's topic in General geocaching topics
I think the photo is insensitive and wouldn't have posted it (regardless of the cache rules). Political caricatures that I see are usually exaggerations of existing features, not exaggerations of racial stereotypes so the lips is mostly what makes it insensitive to me because I don't see Obama's lips as larger than "normal". Other than that, I think it's a relatively accurate caricature. I think of myself as an Independent with Republican and Democratic leanings - you figure it out. I don't at all subscribe to the argument that this is Democrat vs. Republican. I know Oz a little and think he likes to stir the pot and push buttons, I've seen it too much to think otherwise. I think that at least played a part in this. If it truly has nothing to to with Atrus, why not post the pic without reference to the cache or log? That was a rhetorical question by the way. I'm sure one of the 'diggers' here would have eventually found the actual log, but the conversation would have been all about the photo and not about the poster, at least for awhile. But I repeat, I do feel that it falls on the insensitive side of the fence. And Oz is very, very good at this type of debate. I know Atrus but not nearly as well as Oz. I don't believe he is a racist, but IMO he did post an insensitive photo. Even though I don't believe he is racist or meant any insensitivity, I wish he would have just deleted the photo and said "sorry, no harm intended and thanks for letting me know some of you were offended, that's the last thing I wanted to do.". I've read this entire thread and still can't believe it. For Pete's sake, would the OP just request it's closure and let it drift off the front page...until the next controversy? -
I agree that someone does.

You're right paleolith! When I first tried it I just scrolled to the bottom of the page and believed what I was seeing on the total records line. That and the fact that there was no next page. I just manually counted and came up with your 91.

I tried the Backbone Trail bookmark list in IE. When I select 150 or 200, the entire list displays and when I select 50 the paging links work correctly. However, the page title does indeed change to just "Geocaching -" for me also.

I just had to copy an old PQ that was set to run today to make it run. It usually generates just after 12:30 am PST. Copying PQs to make them run gets old quickly.

BUG REPORT: HTML Newsletter "Recent Caches' mis-linked

The old version used to list the state that an event was in but the html newsletter does not. Not a big deal, but it was handy. -
BUG REPORT: HTML Newsletter "Recent Caches' mis-linked
nittany dave replied to LordEd's topic in Website
I really like the format but I'm seeing the same issues. Not just with the recent caches, but with the cache owner links too. Some point me to the wrong cache, others point me to caches not published yet and users not found. -
I do not see these options. Where are they? Upper right corner of the list. Drop down selection.
-
I was wondering that myself.
-
Really? How about Wherigo, Mega and GPS Adventures Exhibit. All created within the last 5-6 years.I like the idea of making Challenge caches their own icon. It seems to work for those who like them (to easily identify and distinguish from true puzzles) and those who don't like them (to avoid).

When do you log a DNF after failing to find a cache?
nittany dave replied to hoyshnin's topic in General geocaching topics
Right away and after trying again. If I look and don't find, I'll log a DNF each time. -

Unless one of the other loggers claimed FTF over you does it really matter? -
Drawing a circle on Google Map
nittany dave replied to Chrysalides's topic in General geocaching topics
I usually just use Streets & Trips to visualize a circle around a point I'm interested in either by distance or drive time. Knowing where the desired radius ends is helpful, but if there are more than 500 caches in the circle you'll still have to split up your PQs to get them all. -
From the opening post Hasn't been a week yet.

I really didn't miss this feature at all but I have got to say that I am most impressed with your fast turnaround of an alternate solution that looks pretty good! Thanks for all the hard work and for listening to the users.

So many people that 'used it all the time' only now discovering this? 'All the time' must not be very often.

Don't listen too much to all the naysayers here. I have one like that and it has had nothing but good logs.

Banning the Operation of GPS Devices in Cars?
nittany dave replied to ChaseOnTheGo's topic in General geocaching topics
Well said CR. Most times I'm behind someone on a cell phone, they don't use signals, don't seem to be aware of what's around them and gradually get slower and slower. With a hands free device it's much easier (but not a guarantee) and more natural to retain good driving habits (signal, turn to look for cars, etc.). I say let's ban the application of makeup or shaving while driving! -
Got all of mine. Thanks for the update Raine.

Your First Out of State Find?
nittany dave replied to DarthJustice's topic in General geocaching topics
My very first find was out of state in August 2001. It was River Damm Site - GCBC3 in Michigan. I had purchased my first GPS a couple days before and left on vacation with a few cache pages printed out. I didn't find my first in the state I live until a month later.
