  1. Call me crazy but won't this fix your issues for a few extra $$$: http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Serial-Cable-...0/dp/B00004VX23 eBay might even have lower priced options.
  2. For $150 they may just swap your unit with a referb. I have seen that in the past.
  3. Given the age of the unit repair is not really economical (if it can be done). You just want to pick up another then keep an eye on the garage sale forum, there is usually one in there for sale every week. Then there is always eBay.
  4. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=193295 EDIT: If WAAS does prove to be a issue for you call Magellan, complain that this was not explained to you at the time of sale and insist on a WAAS capable replacement. You should end up with a Triton 400 or 500.
  5. Buy one of these: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=145&pID=14903 , some Topo maps: http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/topous.jsp and you will have all the options you will need for GC.

  7. Nuvi 255 is the lowest priced current model that will do that as far as I know: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=134...mp;locale=en_US As will both the units she saw at WalMart.
  8. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134 Garmin has a million auto units. Go the the Garmin page and have a look. What options does your friend need/want? How much does your friend have to spend? Between the 350 and the C550 I would pick the 350 myself.
  9. For what it’s worth the c550 has been discontinued by Garmin.
  10. Did you look at the garmin website? For what you want to do the 300 (with DVD Maps) or the 400t will do. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?cID=...reProduct=11022
  11. No...... https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=146&pID=8523
  12. Very good for the most part. I would say try them.....If they are not for you (or you need auto routing) buy the Garmin maps.

  14. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...hlite=%2Boregon Everything you ever wanted to know.....just look at the list and click on anything that has Oregon in it (first link is the best).
  15. Yes, yes...but Waterton is and that is directly connected. Visit one and your likely going to be in the other.
  16. Yep, infill was there in v1.4 Also noticed that the great lakes are empty as well.
  17. A few from Google..... Glacier National Park: http://www.neohbackpackingclub.com/gmap.as...amp;z=9&r=3 download GPX for it here: http://www.neohbackpackingclub.com/gpsLib.aspx http://www.trimbleoutdoors.com/ViewTrip.aspx?TripID=28335 http://www.gpstrails.net/filePages/MT/MT_GNP.htm Waterton Lakes National Park: Cameron Lake to Waterton

  20. Spent better part of 2 days wondering around downtown Chicago this weekend. I took along the Legend HCx with all the places the wife and I wanted to see. I left the GPSr on the whole time and just put it in an outside pocket of my backpack. I would pull it out every once in a while to see where we were or to figure out how to get where we wanted to go next. Even with multiple 50+ story buildings around us I never experienced any drifting issues or strange anomalies during normal operation. The only time I saw incorrect position reporting was when the GPS signals were practically nonexistent, under the elevated train and beside two very tall buildings for example. As soon as we moved away from the elevated train the problem would go away. Just wanted to chime in and say not everyone that is running 2.6/2.6 is having issues. When I purchased my HCx it came with v2.3 preloaded so I doubt it’s a newer production run.
  21. No and no. Oregon also does paperless caching. The PN-40 also does it (to some degree) but that is not yet avaliable.
  22. As mentioned above, due to the availability of FREE maps from Ibycus, the level of detail on the base maps is basically irrelevant. Website: http://www.ibycus.com/ibycususa/ That said, Garmin base maps are basically Interstates, US highways and, state highways and major water bodies.
  23. Considering that the GPSr from your relative was bought by him new all he should have to do is call Garmin with all of your contact info (and MyGarmin account info ) and have the things transferred over. They we recognize him as the owner being as he already registered the unit. No documentation is nessasary.....you should not have any issues (I don’t thin anyway).
  24. Not sure if this is indicative of the data errors you were talking about. New in v2, some water bodies around the St. Louis region seem to be partly missing the blue infill. Mississippi River, Missouri River, Horseshoe Lake…..in some cases it looks like the problem is following the city/county boundaries.
