  2. Also here as well: http://home.cinci.rr.com/creek/garmin.htm Do the free Ibycus topo maps have the detail your looking for on the roads/water? If so you can just do the topo data and lay that on top of the Ibycus maps on the GPSr. Saves time.
  3. Don’t take this the wrong way but you could have avoided this problem by checking on the Garmin website first. Especially when buying something from eBay. Regardless it sucks…sorry man.
  4. Legend HCx would be = to a eXplorist 500. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=145&pID=8701
  5. Try these guys.... http://www.gpscity.ca/item-garmin-etrex-le...etrexleghcx.htm They have a store in Calgary and generally have the best prices/service in Canada. This way you can skip the Saskatchewan PST and get it now. Try these free Topo maps (very good) before you pay for the Garmin Canada Topo as they are not very good for the money. http://www.ibycus.com/ibycustopo/ Legend HCx is a great GPSr. You will enjoy it.
  6. Ummm, the maps from Ibycus are not Topo (well not for the USA anyway). The USA maps from Ibycus are sort of the same as the City Nave 2008 maps from Garmin. That said there is an easy way to get topo data loaded over them. Being as your in MO like me I could just send you the topo IMG file that I created. PM if interested.
  7. Ah, a good cup of Tim's, I do miss it....... Your only option is to delete them as far as I know.

  9. No such luck I’m afraid. Handheld GPSr devices are one way only. Services that offer tracking use other satellites as well.
  10. Is this (http://www.brickhousesecurity.com/locator.html) what your talking about? If so this has nothing to do with the GPS. http://www.childlocator.com/ http://www.guardianlion.com/
  11. Umm, nope. It's a good technology. It's just all the HAM operators I have known over the years have always been a bit off. Infatuated might be a better word. Ugly yard antennas, cars covered in radio gear, things like that. Everything was an excuse to use radio equipment whether or not it was appropriate/convenient. One guy was always downloading pictures via the radio (don't ask me how that works) and all I could think was "you ever hear of e-mail."” I just think that SPOT is likely the best solution for the average person looking for one solution.
  12. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134 200 will be the cheapest. 255 is the cheapest that will speak street names.
  13. I second SPOT. No exams, no licenses, no coverage issues and no HAM stigma. SPOT will work world wide, it’s easy and it’s cheap. http://www.findmespot.com/Home.aspx
  14. Not much money - Go with one of the HC models. This will be a HUGE improvement over your base eTrex. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?cID=...areProduct=8707
  15. Sorry, not sure why....anyway the link was to a GC forum search for Oregon. My way of saying "did you try searching?" If you search for "Oregon" you will find that this has been covered to death as are GPSr recommendations of any kind (which you can find with a search). Thanks to nicolo for the links.
  16. I am not surprised really. The iPhone likely has a better GPSr receiver then the eTrex did when it was new. If you had an eTrex H with you I'm thinking things would have been different.
  17. You could manually set waypoint proximity alerts for caches I suppose. This would not give you "take exit 23 now to go to X cache" but it would be something. However you can basicaly to this at any given time by searching for caches/waypoints near your location.
  18. There is no Legend HC, you must have purchased the Summit HC. These sound like questions that one might have wanted answered before spending money ;-)…… All this info is on the Garmin webpage.... https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=145&pID=8709 The Summit HC will not do auto routing so it's in car usability is limited. The HC will hold maps, however only 24mb worth. Free maps here: http://www.ibycus.com/ibycususa/ http://www.ibycus.com/ibycustopo/ http://www.miscjunk.org/mj/mp_main.html http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/ http://www.switchbacks.com/maps/NW_Trails.html http://www.aracnet.com/~seagull/ORTopo/index.html http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Main_Page http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/ http://mapcenter2.cgpsmapper.com/
  19. Most people are going to recommend one of these: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=145 In order to help you we really need to know things like: how much do you have to spend? What features are important to you? Will you be using it only for GC or do you need it for other activities? If so.....auto, bike, running, etc.
  20. Download and install this (Garmin Training Center): http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=835 Download and install this (MapSource 6.13.7): http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/msourc...Source_6137.exe Now download the free maps and install. This will give you MapSource with USA maps. You can then use MapSource to upload maps the the GPSr.
  21. Funky? Explain. The maps will have to be in one IMG file. This is done by MapSource in the usual way.
  22. Sounds like some sort of electrical interference. I drove by O’Hare a number of times on I90 this past weekend with my Legend HCx but I did not have this problem. Perhaps whatever is causing it will be temporary.
  23. The base map only has the biggest of rivers (not many). Try loading Topo 2008 or http://www.ibycus.com/ibycususa/
  24. Ouch, sorry dude....there has to be someone on here with one collecting dust in a junk pile.....perhaps they will donate.
