  1. Anyone interested in a two for one swap? I'm hoping a bigger screen will be easier on my eyes. I have pics that I can email to you if you are interested. I just couldnt figure out how to do it on this forum. Cheers, Kris
  2. FEATURES for iPad and other iDevices 1- Enable use of bluetooth GPSr as one of the (Settings-My Location-Source) options. This would allow people with wifi only iPads and a tethered external GPSr to geocache. 2- Allow integration with the other sources of downloadable offline use maps. Currently the only options are: For street: OpenStreetMap, Bing Street and Google Street. For Topo: OpenCycleMap. For Satellite: Bing Satellite, Google Satellite and Google Hybrid. If we had the option to select alternative sources we would be able to have quite a nice selection of high quality, detailed maps available.
  3. Hi all, I just got a great deal on an iPad 1 wifi only model. I'd like to use it for some easy terrain geocaching. I was thinking about getting a qstarz bt 818 blue tooth GPSr and seeing if i can get it to play well with the iPad. I have a Groundspeak premium membership and will download pocket queries ahead of time. Has anyone tried this method of geocaching? Does anyone know what I might be able to use for offline maps? I probably will be out of wifi range most of the time. thank you all for any input. -Kris
  4. If you're still looking, this looks like a great deal on ebay. PN-60
  5. Thank you both. I will follow your suggestions. Happy caching!
  6. Hi all, I just bought a Garmin Oregon 300 and when I turn it on it has no maps whatsoever (It seems like buying a book and having to pay extra for the words!!!!) Anyway, I am brand new to mapping technology but I was wondering if anyone knew of a good website(s) where I could learn about maps and how to make your own. What about software for transferring maps to the Oregon? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kris

  8. I am also willing to separate the units. If someone wants just the 60CSX and it's accessories I am willing to sell it for $275 and the eTrex and accessories for $100 obo. Thanks, Kris

  10. I also tried to register but it didn't work. I tried with both a gmail and a hotmail account and got this message... "The entered e-mail domain has no valid MX record."
  11. I've been looking for a site like this. Thanks. Hopefully I can learn something about creating and downloading maps to my gps. I'm a bit new but look forward to learning.
  12. What would be the advantage of having an 'official' Groundspeak geocaching ap for Android beyond GeoBeagle? I run GB on a G1 and i really like it. Is it a matter of more/better features?
  13. I am running GB on my HTC Dream/G1 and it is awesome. To load the caches into my phone I signed up for a premium membership and created pocket queries. I loaded the pocket queries onto a micro sd card and GB syncs them. Works great.
  14. I love Linux - specifically Ubuntu I have Ubuntu on my desktop and my laptop is dual boot Ubuntu and Windoze XP. My cell phone is the G1 or Google phone via T-Mobile with the Android operating system. I have the geocaching premium membership so that I can get pocket queries and then I download them via usb cable to my G1. To use my phone, I have Geobeagle installed on my G1. It's a great set up. I'm thrilled. I also have a Garmin etrex Summit (for back up.)
  15. Thank you to everyone who has been kind enough to reply with helpful info. Yep, my Mio can't see anything off the road. Bummer. So I'm going to look in the yard sale area. This weekend there is an event locally that I'm going to try to find. Should work since it's in the city. Happy caching.
  16. You know... this Mio seems to be great on the road but it doesn't seem to see anything off the street at all. I set it to bicycle mode because I combine exercising with caching. However, it also has a pedestrian setting that might allow me to see off road. I'll check it out. I met someone at work who really likes his Garmin - I think he said it was a 4 trex ???
  17. OMG!!! I found my first cache today. On my way home from work I stopped off at GC19YV8 again and poked around some more and there it was!!! This is awesome! Thank you all so much. WooooHooooo!
  18. Thank you all so much. MrsB that is a great idea. I will check out the West and Southwest USA Forum and place a post today. Adamo1972, thank you very much for the technical tip - I am still learning how to use this GPS unit (my first one) and will definitely change the "lock on road" setting. I just bought this particular GPS because it was on sale for only $50. If I have any luck with geocaching I will surely be buying a more suitable unit for geocaching/hiking. Userzero and usyoopers, I am wondering if some of them have been muggled. I'm probably missing the majority of them, but there is one that was listed as a camoed Altoids tin in plain sight and I still couldn't find it. That one should have been a sure thing. Since I'm in a fairly large city with a bajillion people milling about and gardeners on every other lawn, maybe they have been muggled. ??? I am grateful that each of you have taken your time to reply. I will surely use your advise and I wish you all the best in geocaching. -Kris p.s. - I'm not giving up. This is too cool.
  19. Wait a minute, maybe I am eXpecially stupid. Are there any remedial caches? Like maybe -10? Cheers.
  20. Hi all, I just learned about this sport a few days ago and think it looks like a ton of fun. So I went to C.City and found a Mio C230 DigiWalker for $50. and jumped on my bicycle for some adventurous exercise. I've been to 8 locations over the past 3 days and found nothing, nada, zip, zilch. I'm getting a little bummed but I'm hoping someone can send a little geo-mojo my way. Any advise to help me tune into the great universal geocaching mind would be appreciated. These are the caches I tried to find - GC1BER7, GC19YV8, GC1A0Q4, GC1A0WP, GC1A0TR, GC13PD3, GCVM4P and GC1DZGZ. I'm not expecially stupid, but I'm felling kinda lame right now. Thanks, Kris
