  1. Does anyone know if I can load the National Geographic Topo Explorer maps that came with my Magellan into my new Dakota? They are on a CD, the cover says nothing about the Magellan.
  2. I'm thinking that Otis and Sammy are of the same cloth! Where'd you get the vest that says "cacher"?
  3. I've gotten about half my caches with my horse, J.J. He loves it when I get off to look, as it means he gets to eat and rest. We do a lot of trail riding, and he's starting to anticipate where caches are, and will pull off the trail when he thinks its a good place to look or hide a cache. My friends find this hilarious! I also cache with my dog, Sammy. Sammy is excellent at finding caches! I am careful not to take him into areas where there may be snakes or other dangerous places, and in the fall, he wears a hunting vest if not on leash because he looks a little like a coyote. Happy trails!
  4. I've found lots of TBs/Coins with a printed mission statement attached to/ packaged with it. It seems to be a computer form--where do I find this?
  5. I know that this thread is old, but wanted to chime in. I had a forerunner 101 before I started caching, so used it when I discovered the sport. I do a lot of this on horseback, and love that the 101 has the wrist strap that attaches to my saddle. For Christmas I gifted myself a new Venture HC, and I can't decide if I like it. I like that I can down load the data, but the data is incomplete (no hints, descriptions, etc). I also don't like the screens--I miss the map + compass screens being combined, and really miss the "list of nearest caches" screen. No sure if I'm keeping the Venture or sending it back. Definately keeping the 101, which seems to be nearly as accurate, and atleast doesn't guess at locations when under tree cover. Hope this helps someone... Appaloosa Gal
  6. wow--great responses! At this point, however, I'm not thinking I've got the funds to put this together. I have an awesome design, but alas, I have to feed the beasts... If someone else puts together an appaloosa coin, I'd buy more than a couple of handfuls!
  7. If you are borrowing artwork, you need to check into copyright issues. There are several threads on that topic too. I found the artist! And she tells me to go for it. I can use her design, so that's where I'll start. Hope to have a sketch up shortly.
  8. Wow--what great posts! --I've done endurance, and I can't imagine taking the time to find a cache during a ride--it always seems like go-go-GO! --I will have to check out the BCH! Sounds like my kind of people! I placed a cache not long ago called J.J.'s Power Up, which I placed while on my horse, J.J. I'm planning a true "equicache" in the coming weeks--it will be filled with horsey items. There is a website dedicated to this, but it's not quite geocaching.com try www.equicache.com Oh, and wanted to note that when I decide to take the horses out caching, I of course go to one of the horse friendly parks. I also preview the satellite image, which helps me get an idea of where the cache is, and if it's safe to get there on horseback. It is hard to be stealth, afterall, on a 1000 pound horse! 9. I have an idea in mind, it is borrowed, how ever, and I do not know who the artist is--as an artist, I don't want to borrow, but?? I will scan it and post. Thanks for the message. Oh, and of course, it will be trackable!
  10. I started geocaching because I learned about 'equicaching' in Trail Blazer Magazine. It's a whole heck of a lot of fun, if you have the right horse. Love to talk to others who are doing this!
  11. I'm thinking of creating a geocoin to celebrate the appaloosa horse (yeah, I ride one while caching). Would anyone be interested in buying it if I do??
