  1. Some really, really interesting observations there. I've seen the da Vinci quote both with an "a" before life and without, but at first blush, I think you've come up with some good possibilities, and some good new avenues to explore.

I may have posted a bit too quickly. By my count, there are 61 letters in the version of the quote that appears on the coin. You can bring the character count to 64 by including the hyphen, comma and period and ignoring the quotation marks, though.

My first thought was to plot out those 64 characters in an 8x8 grid, as on a chessboard (I really like the chessboard idea, with its relation to knights), and using the numbers on the mausoleum side of the Paris Meridian coin to map out certain letters. Then I realized there are 17 numbers in those strings combined, and one of them is a 9. So that idea's out the door.

Here's hoping your observations shake loose something valuable. Someone with more knowledge of ciphers than I might be able to make something of the 8x8 grid idea.

  2. Before I bid I just wanted to ask whether it is really you, mysterycoins, selling the coins on eBay.

Yes, 2-3 sets just for Christmas.

Ohhhhh............I will have to go check that auction out!! thanks for the heads up!

Can someone post the link please? :D

I'd rather not post links to the auctions, but if you search for "New World Order Geocoin" (without the quotes) you'll get the current listings. The first LE Antique Copper was sold, but there are AB, AS and AG currently on auction. The two-tone finishes will be put up there sometime this weekend.

I can't find those listings, even after searching as you suggested and then trying several variations. Can you PM me a link or otherwise help me find them?

Thanks - I'd love a chance at owning one of these beauties!

Try the following, you should get the correct results.

Do a search for: GEOCOIN NEW WORLD ORDER MYSTERY

On the categories pull down menu (to the right of the search box) select: All categories

Scroll down the screen to the left hand side menu and tick the Location box: Worldwide

That should do the trick, if not I'll forward you the links.

I received my beautiful new coin today - thank you! It's one of the thickest, heaviest coins I've ever seen, and instantly one of my favorites.

  4. Another idea which failed me, but I'm hoping to shake something loose by sharing it: I got to thinking while the numbers on the Paris Meridian coin look a lot like coordinates, they really aren't -- that would be too easy, anyway. []

Maybe, though, those numbers correspond to letters somehow. I've tried assigning letters to the numbers using the LdV quote on the Vitruvian coin, as well as the ciphertext on the back of that coin, the anagrams on the front, and the lettering on both sides of the Templar coin. I haven't been able to make anything of it. I'd love to kick around some more ideas with people who might still be interested in this puzzle. It's becoming something of an obsession.

  5. Congratulations to all the extremely lucky recipients!

I just can't stop admiring this coins! The design, in my opinion and in my taste, is perfect! I love every detail of it that gives it the mysterious and almost ancient feel.

Thank you to the mystery giver for giving some people a feeling of happiness and others the feeling of awe!

Hear, hear! Very well said! I'd love to see one of these in person some day.

  6. I have started using the Groundspeak App on my HTC Desire and its very good. However I need a app that I can enter in co-ordinates in manually. Has anyone any recomendations.

The latest version of the app allows you to enter coordinates manually. While you're in navigation mode, change to the map view and call up the menu choices from within map mode. Entering coordinates is a new option there under "add waypoint."

  7. RD, I'd have to agree with you on the disentombing project. Some mysteries are better left unsolved -- but definitely NOT the ones involving your geocoins!

I had a couple of questions for anybody watching this thread -- and feel free to bat me down if it's improper to ask these questions.

First, I've spent hours searching the web for a drawing or schematic or photo of the mausoleum at Santa Maria delle Grazie without any luck. Where can I find that? Second, and maybe I missed this, but how did the person who came up with St. Hubert's Chapel as a partial answer to the overall puzzle get that answer? I have been trying to use that to "reverse-engineer" ciphers on the coins, again without any luck.

    Thanks!

    Check out this link http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/leonardo-da-vinc...tory?id=9662394.

I personally think disentombing da Vinci to try and fulfill our own curiosities is going a bit to far. It kind of sickens me. What are your thoughts?

  8. Thanks, RD, I didn't know that about activation codes. I've already tried using them as keywords for some deciphering, but now I know I won't have to waste any more time with them. The three activation codes I got were:

    TAREFO

    TIMUTE

    4IGOHO

The first two really looked promising to me. The third, not so much, but it still looked like it could have some meaning.

    Back to the drawing board!

    Thanks,

    Jon

  9. Greetings all. I am brand-new to posting here, but I've been studying the thread for a little while. I just received my set of coins through an online auction, and I'm excited to start contributing to the community. I just hope I'm able to advance the discussion a little bit.

I had a thought within the first couple of minutes of receiving the coins that I wanted to share. The activation codes I received for each coin looked to me enough like real, non-English words (well, at least two of the three) to get me wondering whether they have anything to do with the solution. I won't post them here. The thing is, I have no idea whether the activation codes I was given were the same for anybody -- or everybody -- else. If everybody got the same codes, I would venture that it might be helpful to look into whether they actually mean anything in moving toward a solution.

I'd be happy to go into this a bit more fully through PMs, but I'm not sure activation codes should be posted in a public forum.

    Thanks, everyone.

    Jon

  10. I have been using that term for a few years -- I figured it was just a funny way of combining the names of two of my favorite sports. I'm not sure what the deal is outside Colorado, but in my state, almost all -- if not all -- ski resorts are on National Forest land, where geocaching is fine. Some of my more memorable caching experiences, actually, have been in finding "ski-o-caches."

  11. Not in my mailbox, but I found this little beauty -- TB2NYQQ -- in a spot where a DeLorme PN-40 beta tester hid it two years ago. He'd posted some difficult clues on his Web site, and I was able to put them all together. Then, with a day off for the Columbus Day holiday, I found the time to go hunt for it. I felt like the luckiest geocacher in the world!

  12. Whenever I ski, I put my Colorado 400T in a coat pocket, and it records tracks and maintains satellite reception just fine. Depending on the building, it will even keep its satellite lock inside the lodge during lunch. I don't think a few layers of fabric -- or my body -- does much to block the GPS signals.

  13. I received my 2.125-inch, gold on silver NAWWAL today. It's even better looking than the photos on SCAVOK.com! This one's definitely a keeper. I can't wait to show it off at the Rocky Mountain Geocaching Academy event this weekend. Beautiful coin!

  14. I don't think you can do it directly but you could set up a bookmark and then create a PQ from that.

Just in case you aren't aware, here's how you can see all the caches you've DNFed:

    1) Go to your profile page and under "My logs (last 30 days)" click the "Show all logs for: Caches" link

    2) Then click the "Show: Didn't find it" link

This will show you all the caches you've logged a DNF for, even if you've since found them.

Edit: Oops - Castle Mischief beat me to the punch :)

Thanks to you both! I should have known Groundspeak would have made this not only possible, but simple.

  15. I searched as well as I could through past posts and couldn't find an answer: Is it possible to set up a pocket query to show me all the DNF logs I've posted?

I got to thinking recently it would be great to try to clear as many of my DNFs as possible, but I haven't kept track of them over the years. I just don't see a way to do it on the PQ page.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  16. Up for sale is a Palm Tungsten T3 with charging cradle, an extra USB-to-unit charge/sync cable and the original flip-cover. The latest syncing software should be downloaded from the PalmOne site -- the CD-ROM the unit came with has software that's hopelessly out of date.

The unit is in good shape with some cosmetic blemishes around the bezel and on the back, but the screen is in very good shape -- I used a screen protector on it. The unit works perfectly and accepts SD memory cards.

It's great for paperless caching. Before I started out with my Colorado 400t, I used CacheMate on this unit, and it worked very well. (Note: It does not come with any software other than what it had when it came from the factory.)

The Tungsten T3 is the model with a sort of telescoping design -- the keypad area slides down about an inch to expose more screen real-estate.

I don't have any photos of it, but I could send them to interested parties. The Tungsten T3 Web page is http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/na/tungst...me/page_en.html.

I'm asking $70 (via PayPal) including shipping in the continental U.S.

    Thanks,

    Jon

  17.

I used to do a lot of flight simming too, and the funny thing is that is what got me interested in getting a GPSr. But I didn't know what I was going to do with it...until I read about Geocaching!

Funny -- That sounds a lot like me. Besides flight simming, I used to love building wooden models of airplanes. Now, I go out caching whenever I have free time, and I have two or three half-finished models in my basement and several bottles of glue slowly hardening as they sit there neglected.
