  1. Yeah....me too. And don't cave in when it comes to your ratings. Some people pay close attention to those and may choose to pass that one by because of the rating. Hang in there.....you are not out of line.
  2. Our rating system must be different out here in Arizona. Last sunday we used 4 wheel drive to get to this 2.5 cache GCTD53. 1.5 sounds like a good rating for the cache in question to me. Oh yeah........I got dirty........the truck got dirty.........and as an employer...........I think it's a DNF.
  3. I guess I'm one of the older, more forgetful cachers. I log a DNF as a reminder to myself that I didn't find it yet and that it is one I'd like to go back to. Then...I don't delete it after I find the cache. On a trip to Home Depot the other day, I had my husband drop me off at a new cache nearby. As my luck would have it....he didn't shop around at all and came right back. I logged a DNF. BUT...I felt like there had been a lot of people there looking because of the foot prints and dusturbed bushes. I didn't realize till I read the forums that a DNF is shameful and not just a tool for organizational purposes. So.....Am I supposed to delete the DNF once I find the cache or does it matter?
  4. I live in Arizona and wonder if anyone would be interested in helping me surprise my brother by hiding a cache for his birthday. I would make the cache up...micro...ammobox...whatever and mail it to you. His birthday is the end of March and I have only known him for 3 years (I'm 47). He is my BABY brother and very dear to me. If anybody would be interested please PM me. Thanks for the help in advance, Shoebugs
  5. Hey Wornout.... No harm done. I'm really glad that I have those near and dear to me keeping the spirit of fun alive. If Geocaching stops being fun...I won't do it anymore. I'll re-log that find after you log it on your next trip out here. My advice to you would be that if you ever read another log about a glow in the dark golf ball....look really hard because there might be a Ford truck hidden near by. (just kidding) Be healthy, Happy Caching, Shoebugs
  6. Oops again... That previous log was written by me. Shoebugs...not Quadrod. Thanks Shoebugs
  7. Congratulations!!!!!! Now...you need to start a "Name my Geo-Baby" thread. I'm putting my vote in first for Cashew. Thanks for posting a picture of the test.....I hope your wife doesn't find out.
  8. Is that for caches that you own?????????? What do you say to them?
  9. Soooo......When you "police your logs"...........do you e-mail the person and what do you say?? I understand that on occasion, you can mistake one cache for another and the person has just made an error. Sometimes it's really obvious that the person didn't find the cache or sign the log. Is it appropriate for another cacher to e-mail the offending person and let them know that their name wasn't in the cache log and inquire as to why it's been logged as a find?
  10. Congrats to Anne Bonney!!!!!!! It's always nice to tuck that difficult FOUND IT away and move on to the next cache.
  11. In Anne Bonne's case....the best way to get the log is to go in looking official. Wear a hard hat, an orange reflector vest, carry a clip board and a big measuring tape. Go directly to the cache...sign the log and get it over with. Those guys won't be showing anything off or doing anything out of line with someone "official" around. My husband has the patience of a Saint and he will wait and wait and wait for the "perfect time". In this case...a persistant cacher could be mistaken for a "REGULAR". Use your finely-tuned geocaching hunting skills (to quote one of my favorite cachers) on this one.
  12. Check this one out..... I went to calico ghost town this weekend and camped there. I forgot my GPS and to look on the site to see if there were any caches nearby. I went in the cemetary 3-5 times because my nephew, and his freinds wanted to see if any ghost were there. If you don't want me to get the credit for this cache just e-mail me saying that is not ok to log it as a find and I will remove the find. Surprisingly, the owner didn't delete the find.
  13. Sooooooooo..........you think TB/Caches are OK?
  14. What ever happened here???? I have been considering a Travel Bug/Cache but I'm not sure if it is "legal" to hide a TB and give it some coordinates. The rules don't say you can't, but it may be "implied" . I'm not trying to push the rules to the limit nor do I think everything has to be spelled out...but I don't want to pooh-pooh a fun idea because I'm "scared" it isn't within the guidelines. I like your list of pros and cons. My game would require the TB/Cache to remain in our local area and have stipulations as to how long you can hold it and a time limit on posting the coords on the TB page.
  15. will re-post..didn't get all of the "paste info" the first time
  16. Quadrod has piece of PVC pipe with 2 caps on the ends. I don't know what size the PVC is...but the AA batteries fit perfectly end to end. He has used it with no problem for quite a while. The temperature here is 120+ degrees in the summer. If anybody want's more specifics...I'll check it out and let you know.
  17. I have been considering asking my family's permission to hide a cach AT my grandfather's grave. He passed away in 1966 but if he were alive today, he would be the KING cacher. This area was used for military traing in the 60's and they had a "mock war" in the desert. As a kid...Grandpa would take us out hunting for anything the soldiers left out there. There were green sardine type cans with everything you can imagine in them. I mostly remember having the peanut butter and crackers as an afternoon snack. He was just an "outdoorsey" guy. I think he would love the cache idea and be honored to be a part of it. Maybe inappropriate to me would be a mortuary.
  18. Bummer Dude...... I hope you have taken advantage of your time off to make enough signature items to get you by for a while. I was looking forward to you leaving some in our neck of the woods when you come back to Laughlin. IF you ever come back. So long buddy....
  19. Arizona is typically a pretty dry state, but we have had some rain in the last couple of months. About half of the caches we vistited last weekend were wet inside. A lot of cachers don't read the boards so maybe a reminder note can be put on one of the main pages of this site to clean up their caches for the spring. Sad to say....a lot of them are owned by non resident people. I'm sure that there are a lot of wet, soggy, mushy caches out there that could stand some TLC. We have helped out non-resident owners from time to time...but it doesn't occur to me to take a truck load of tupperware with me when I'm headed out the door to find a cache and I hate to drop something nice (ESPECIALLY my cool signature item) into those minature swamps.
  20. Megan Jane the Quad Dog got me in trouble last week. She ran out ahead and was sitting at the cache 100 yds away when my husband (Quad Rod) got to it. He didn't know that I had logged that one 2 weeks before and pretty much put 2 and 2 together when he found my signature item with Quad Dog's picture in the cache. I'll have to teach her to be a little more sneakey while caching with dad.
  21. Last Saturday had to be the very worst for us. It was raining earlier in the morning, but the sky opened up and we decided to go for it. Within half an hour...we had loaded our daughters cache-pack, remembered 2 flashlights, grabbed a gallon of water and small bowl because we were taking Quad-dog and baby Mailey. This would be her first trip so we were trying to gather up extra leashes and everything she would need. The first stop was about 40 miles away and the whole time, we were remembering the things we forgot. The puppy was wanting up front to sit in my lap and we were happy that she got over her fear and seemed to be enjoying the trip. Quad dog always sits on the console in the middle. We could see that the sky was black and it was raining up ahead. We were too close to the first cache to let a little rain stop us. About 5 miles away from the first stop, the GPSr seemed to freeze up. Quadrod took the batteries out, so we lost all of the way points. Luckily, we had 5 print outs with us. Quadrod hurried to put the Coords in so we could grab this first one. Just as we were about to turn off the road, the puppy started doing the "Exorcist Barf" hitting everyone in the car. We stopped, opened the doors, it was cold and raining, and Quadrod had forgotten his jacket. The semi's were roaring past and dogs were scared to death. Of course, we didn't bring a mop so a handtowel was all we had to try to clean ourselves up with but we finally got to the first cache. From there on it was one thing after another. We ended up driving 200 miles for 5 caches and spent the entire day in the pouring rain. Once we got home...it was dark...Quadrod wanted to go do 2 more closer to the house. I had been there but he hadn't. We left the dogs and off we went. At the first of his 2.....I slammed my finger in the car door. I had to put the flashlight down to open the door to get my finger out. Quadrod never goes anywhere without a roll of toilet paper so I wrapped my finger up and with trembling legs and feeling like I was going to faint...we finished his 2 finds.
  22. I am so sorry about the hurt feeling and controversy over this topic, but I'm glad it came up. We are always learning more about the game and some of these things aren't covered on the main page. Sometimes, we just use the information that is stored in the GPS and don't even know what the page says. What a good lesson in Caching etiquette. I would not have understood that this one was off limits till the birthday boy found it but I did certaily see that it is a daylight only cache. I hope this gets resolved in a manner that suites everyone. Shoebugs Arizona
  23. Are you saying that he even made change?????
