  1. On the cache page, in the upper right corner, there is a link that says "Log your visit". Click that link, then in the "Type of Log" drop-down list, select "Found It", and log your information. Good luck, and congrats on your first two finds!!
  2. It seems to me that logging an SBA is a fairly serious thing to do, and that if you're going to do it, you should be willing to do so openly, putting your name to it. There's something that seems to me to be cowardly and dishonorable about doing — or wanting to do — such a thing anonymously. You should put your name to it, and be willing to stand by it. We should be hesitant to log an SBA, unless we're really sure it's called for; and if we're really sure it's called for, then we shouldn't worry that the cache owner will be offended. In a perfect world, that might work. Apparently you don't know human nature very well. Many cachers become upset, no matter how politely you address issues. Nothing cowardly about it. In fact, I resent the fact that you are implying that I am a coward. There's a difference between cowardice and courtesy, just as there is a difference between common sense and being an idiot.
  3. No, but it lead to me buying the Jeep.....since I went through 4wd withdrawal immediately after selling it!!
  4. I've got "SPARKY" on the Jeep, and my old Toyota PU had "YMIHERE"....it's now on my POS GMC PU, but I'm thinking of switching it to the Jeep.....Had that tag since 1985, so everyone knows it's me when they see it!
  5. Nice post, Hedberg! Yeah, a lot of the time it does seem like that's what's happening, people are trying to strangle the fun out of caching. But, as has also been mentioned, that group is very small and each time they throw a fit trying to get more rules, they lose more credibility. Thanks for the insightful post, and the positive approach you used.
  6. I like that idea, too. I have only filed two SBA's. On one, the owners were long gone, so I didn't worry too much about offending them. The other was by owners that had a lot of caches, and were still active. I still felt justified to file the SBA because if they are active, they should fix a cache that had been repeatedly muggled for two months with at least a dozen reports from previous finders that it had been muggled. Bad thing about that cache, the people would log it as found, report that it had been cleaned out by muggles, yet log that they had left a trade item, and even a couple had left TB's!!! How stupid is that?!?!? Back OT, I agree. I think more people would file SBA's when needed if they weren't afraid of offending the owners. Letting only the approvers see who filed it to cut back on abuse is an excellent idea.
  7. There must be a lot of them going.....I see thread after thread spamm....errr, mentioning it.
  8. Here's the old Toy, just before I sold it. Owned it 18 years before I started caching, sold it a month before I started caching.
  9. Sweet!!! Only $2700?!?!?!?!? Man, if I'd only spent that much, I'd already have all the mods I want!! Lift, wheels, winch, lockers.....man, that's a steal, bud! My first choice for color was red, but I got such a good deal on my YJ I couldn't pass it up. Only had 54,000 miles on it and had never been off-road. Traded a fully loaded '99 Camry for it, plus got $800 back.
  10. Nice rig!! Love that bumper/brush guard/winch combo ya got on there, what kind is it?
  11. The lightbar has been there for a couple of months. I just haven't posted any pics since I put it on, I guess. I bought it used at a local 4x4 shop, don't remember how much....less than $100, lights included. I shot a couple coats of flat black paint on it, and put it on. Really lights up the road, and doesn't create much glare off the hood. I've heard folks complain about light bars reflecting too much glare off the hood, but even with a white hood, I don't have any problems with it. I've got the two center lights on one switch, and they're aimed down the middle of the road, about 100yds past the headlight range. The outer lights on another switch are aimed about the same distance, only more to the ditches and beyond to highlight any critters that may be lurking there. Combined with the headlights, I've got several hundred yards of daylight fully covered at a distance about 100' across, no dark spots at all. I also mounted my CB antenna up there, but have a cute little bungy cord I use to tie it down to the windshield rest on the hood for when I park in the garage or am gonna be running under low trees on the trail. The cherokees can be very capable off-road vehicles, and very dependable, too. Throw on a 2" lift and some 31" MT's, and you're ready to roll!! Got a pic? Or did you ever get that digital kayak yet?
  12. I saw just the Jeep for you the other day. It was a purple YJ Wrangler and had a little horse painted on each rear fender! If you want, I'll go test drive it for ya!! Oh, and send me a check, I'd be more than happy to deliver it to you, too!!
  13. That's debatable. There are advantages to both suspension systems, but I wouldn't say one is better than the other. Depends on driving habits more than anything. I've driven the newer TJ's, and while they ride a bit better on pavement, I've heard lots of people say they don't do as well off-road. But, like I say, it's all about personal driving habits and preferences. I prefer leaf springs, as do many of the hardline off-roaders. Oh, and the biggest mistake Toyota ever made was making independent front suspension in their 4x4's. The '85 I had was the last year of the solid front axle for them, and now they are in high demand. IS just isn't a good option for a rugged 4wd. That was the beginning of the end for Toyota and off-road action. Now they seem to be following the crowd (instead of leading it as they used to) and shooting for the "soccer-mom" pavement princess 4-wheeler crowd. I would no more take a 4-Runner or newer Toyota truck off-road than I would a Ford Pinto.
  14. I've sent data corrections to Garmin before. They have our entire main street reversed east for west, as far as the businesses that are there. In a town with a population of less than 1000, I doubt they'll get right on it and fix it, though.
  15. Nice job on the restoration, DW!!! Looks great!! I bought my YJ after I started caching. I don't know that caching was any influence on my purchase, though I suspect it helped. I drove a 1985 Toyota 4wd (bought it new), and sold it last October (just before I started caching) with 275,000 miles on it. Started kicking myself the minute it drove out of the drive, and just had to get back into a 4wd vehicle. I pretty much knew I would get a Jeep, and seeing pics of people's Jeeps in the forums drove that urge a bit more, so maybe geocaching did have some influence. I still think I'd have bought the Jeep whether I cache or not anyway. After nearly 5" of rain yesterday, I had to get a mud fix!!
  16. I know where there are twin smokestacks at a power plant, a little over .1 miles apart. The stacks are identical. There is a great history as to how they came to be, and also how they were built by hand, brick by brick. So, then, by your logic, if Cacher X managed to get the east stack approved as a virt, I could have the west stack approved as a virt, also, because they are exactly the same, right? Yeah, that argument doesn't work either, does it?
  17. Oh, yeah! I'm sure there are millions of lamp posts in Wal Mart parking lots across the country that I need to see! Wow! I've really been missing out by hiking in the woods looking for ammo cans!!!!!!!
  18. Yeah, but who says this makeover has to happen right now? I can't see any need for definite deadlines with the site. It works as is, but the makeover will (most likely) make it better, so why rush it?
  19. I offered to come live with Jeremy and help him with comic relief to calm his nerves. Judging from his reply, apparently he thought that would be counterproductive! I have no clue when it comes to technical computer stuff. I could build cabinets for his computers, desks for him to work at, and remodel his office, but you really don't want me attempting anything on the actual code base of the website. Believe me.....that would not be good!
  20. Initially, trolling was referring to pulling bait behind the boat. Dragging an eyecatching topic in front of the other fish in the forum, to see who would bite and give the OP a fight. Now, I think it's both. It starts one way, and by the time it's done, everyone is pretty sure they got attacked and drug under a bridge by the OP.
  21. Definately! I recall, back around '87 or so, a few years after SUV's were becoming really popular, I left VT one afternoon for a drive to NJ in my Land Rover just as one heckuva snowstorm was starting. It snowed like crazy the whole way (so bad I had to stop at road junctions and beat the snow off the signs to know which way to go). I saw more 4WD vehicles in ditches than any other (no, I wasn't one of them ) people thinking, of course, "I have 4WD, I'm invincible!" Not realizing it doesn't help squat when you apply the brakes. I've been off-roading since '72, you learn alot in that time. In my case mainly how stupid I can be. Yup! When I worked as a paramedic, we saw more SUV's in the ditches upside down than any other vehicle. My call area was a rural area between two major cities, about 20 miles from each. We figured all the bad drivers took themselves out before they ever got out of the city, and all the calls we had were people in SUV's that thought they were invincible.......
  22. Yup. Had an old '72 Mercury Capri with the washer on the floor, and at the same time was learning to drive my dad's F-150 that had high-beams on the floor. Got pretty confusing sometimes! For a short time, I worked for an ambulance service that had a Type III ambulance with the airhorn switch on the floor right next to the high-beam switch. Man, did I ever make some embarassing gaffs back then!
  23. Hey, Jeremey! Back here in the cheap seats, I've got a question: What did you want to be when you were in elementary school, high school, and college? And at what point did you realize you were going to be CEO of such a great program? Sorry for yelling, there weren't any microphones set up in the balcony.
