  1. Clyde I know the cache that you describe and we were the unfortunate cachers to find the cache deeply entrenched in the post. We had spent some time searching for it and so were quite frustrated! But that happens quite a few times. As to ground being churned up this happens frequently but does this reflect on the hiding place as much as the seekers? Certainly at this nettle busy time of year I appreciate cacher 'trails'. Peter
  2. I love the summary icons for number of visits; DNFs etc. Will wait to see how the pictures finally work out - it is different now from what it was first thing this morning. All in all - great job! Peter
  3. Thanks for the congratulations - we are considering seeking medical help for our addiction! Jacqueline and Peter
  4. You can also try the MIO website. The technical support service and FAQs is quite good. http://www.mio-tech.be/en/index.htm Peter
  5. I had a similar problem on my older mio 201. The issue revolves around the ports! Settings/system/GPSHardware COM port: COM 2 Baud rate: 4800. Software COM port: COM 4 You may wish to do a search for the forum discussion for the A201 and see if you can apply the same logic. Peter
  6. There is a drinks / cup holder in the centre of the console in our Golf. Youjust pop the holder out and use one of the cup holders for the PDA. The additional security benefit is when we park up we remove the PDA, slot the cup holder back nad there is no tell tale sign of the support. Peter
  7. We use the Mio 210 and after some early problems it now works fine with Memory Map and Tomtom. We just bought a 2G card with no issues! Peter
  8. A DNF by searching the wrong location is a 'joy' of puzzle caches. We always wonder if we are searching the correct place and so sometimes do not perform an in depth adequate search. I love straight forward traditioal caches :-) Peter
  9. I have just looked at the microsoft photostory - the s/w is free but for a 60 day trial! Peter
  10. I appreciate Deceangi's efforts to clear up caches which require attention! Peter
  11. It is so frustrating whe the main site is down. Makes you appreciate just how dependent we are on the web! Now I undersand why people regualrly download to gsak so they can view offline. Peter
  12. I have just checked out 'how' a finder may react when finding an inappropriate cache. The sheet informs the finder to go to : geocaching.com This is not a page I visit frequently. Once there if seems reasonable for the finder to click on the 'contact us' link. This page then informs a land owner how to communicate with Groundspeak who will pass the comment on to the cache owner. It seems as though there is a reasonable process in place - perhaps this should be tested anonymously occassionally! Peter
  13. Most of the caches seem to have a general description of caching and the geocaching website reference. I amnot convinced that I would beable to contact the owner if I wasn't a member of the caching fraternity! I am loathe to place my personal email address or phone number on the cache so what have other cache owners done? Peter
  14. Well Done Des & Bren Well Done Diane, Ron & Billie And thanks to both teams for their support. Jacqueline and Peter
  15. I always fear that all the hardwork of constructing the background image is spoilt because you only see it for a second and then the cache details flood over the top! Peter
  16. Thanks Barry I opted for the easiest approach first and now have all my unfound caches from GSAK on the map. Thanks Updated I searched the gsak forum and found link to google earth export macro version 2.0. Works great.
  17. I use GE and have overlaid the cache data which is great. Is there a way to only download caches that you have not found? Thanks Peter
  18. A very well done to the family. And to think you also find time to work, run a family and also hide caches! Jacqueline and Peter
  19. Alternatively you can use GSAK. Select the caches you wish to be able to navigate to - go to the export menu and select tomtom. Having said that they do not take up very much space so I download a couple of thousand at a time. Peter
  20. Not so quick Stora. First of all we should have a vote if we chould have a vote. Peter
  21. But when cachers deal with many geocoins this becomes geocashing! Peter
  22. I always appreciate car park coords - it helps non locals to start off a caching trip on the correct foot by placing the wheels in a safe place. Peter
  23. I have noticed the emergence of the Garmin GPSMap series, and Etrex Cx, and Magellan RoadMate series with Navigation facilities. Has anyone worked out a way to get these to give voice directions? Or anything else that will be good for geocaching and in car sat nav solutions. Yes PDA and Tom tom, but tends to fill the pockets too much when walking to a cache. Peter
  24. Another aspect for puzzle caches is the provision of a hint. The hint normally applies to the physical location of the cache however a hint for how to complete the puzzle element would be appreciated. I must confess to frequently requesting asistance from the owner. Peter
  25. I have two candidates but suspect that they are not the oldest. team norahandmatilda Matilda was three weeks on her recent first caching trip - wigglesworth took along grandchild of three weeks (Lauren) on a couple of Berkshire caches last week. Peter
