  1. Moote Thanks - what a great mine of information we have here - knowledge is power. Peter
  2. Linked to the A201 topics - just! I use GSAK to maintain my cache data and it supports the downloading of tomtom POIs to the A201. The POIs use the cache name as the index rather than the GC value. I would prefer to use the waypoint name - is this easy to change. Peter
  3. We have been using our A201 for a few weeks and we are very pleased with it. Must confess to using the old yellow GPS when hunting the cace - uness we feel the need to check the mao. I am very nervous about dropping the PDA and prefer to have it secure in my pocket. Use tomtom and now also use OSGPS to insert additonal waypoints for multi's. Battery life seems reasonable but the battery is still very new. Peter
  4. Thank you everybody for all your help. I have used the mobipocket application to downloa all the cache pages for offline viewing. Others have recommended cachemate - any views? Have loaded tomtom onto bigger card and all seems fine. By the way i just noticed the OS GPS application for entering lat long coords into Tomtom. Thanks everybody Peter
  5. thanks for the OS GPS link. Works well Brilliant Peter
  6. Thanks for the idea - uess it crossed in the ether. Works fine and u can zoom into get the detail. Has anyone ported tomtom from the memory card it came on - to a bigger card. There is no room left to add any other applications or data. Peter
  7. Well I have done it - bought the Mio A201 , complete with tomtom. Next tasks are to work out how to: =transfer streetmap OS maps. At the moment I only see the first square of the map on the PDA. =download eocache data onto tomtom =download cache descriptions Peter
  8. It was quite a weekend for 700s - Wigglesworth achieved this last Monday! Thnaks to all the cache owners! Peter
  9. Please pass on our thoughts. We met Bill at a cachers meet and enjoyed his company! Peter
  10. Thanks for the quick reply. I believe that the machine comes with a tom tom like program but I need to check. Life used to be so simple! Peter
  11. So in conclusion if I buy an MIA A201 will I be able to: - Use tom tom or similar voise navigation tool - be able to connect to wireless web and download streetmap extracts for OS maps - download cache data via gsak - in long term use memory map - add spoiler photos I used to be an IT expert but the years have attacked my knowledge base. I am nervous about splashing out this much money!! Peter
  12. Well Done Hopefully if you keep up the caching hits you will have less time to set some of your impossible problem caching! Still cannot work out some of them!! Peter
  13. We are happy to tackle multi caches BUT prefer the clues to be on plaques etc. Why? There is no risk that part of the series of multi caches will have gone missing preventing us completing the series! There is nothing more frusrating than travelling a long distance, finding a few clues then being prevented from logging the final cache due to a missing clue. If yo have to find a container there is an argument that it is a cache in its own right! Peter
  14. 1. I appreciate car parking Coords - it gets us off to a good start. 2. We welcome an approximate guideline as to how long the cache may take - excluding 'search' time. This is particularly useful when it is a multi stage cache! 3. We appreciate that many cache owners do provide car parking coords and give time indications. Peter
  15. One aspect is to look for the obvious place. This is on top of the steepist hill in the area! The other trick is to look on the other side of the unpassable waterway. Peter
  16. I have added the google earth macro and wish to thank the forum for bringing the facility to my attention! It works great to get your own tailored set of caches for display. I would never have visited the location without geocaching and I thank you for a great experience. Peter
  17. Great idea to have the introductory letter. However it may be worth while to try to get the mail to cachers before they place a cache. Better forewarned ! Peter edited for typos
  18. Well done you two – we used to have a similar number of UK caches but now you have leaped ahead. With our international caches though we are at 605 but expect to be overtaken – what was that rushing past us?? Congratulations Jacqueline and Peter
  19. Can you run a simple routing package (something like Tom tom) on a palm or do you need to go up market. Peter
  20. Haggis Thanks for the list - great fun when stuck at home! Peter
  21. Bet you never appreciated just how popular your caches are!! Peter
  22. Agh Jim lad Well done on reaching the magic 200. Peter
  23. "While I would like to be able to release my funds to go towards Jeremy's new Bentley, I really feel that he should have got the big Mercedes SUV instead. Therefore, I cannot, in good conscience, allow my money to go for that. " Given the impact of gas guzlers on the environment I am disppointed that SBELL111 feels Jeremy should drive such a vehicle. How mach does gas have to go up before drivers resort to more economical cars? Peter
  24. I appreciate the lighthouse pictures, be they land locked or not they are interesting and worthy of a visit. Thanks Peter
