  1. Playing with the advanced search today in anticipation of a trip and wanted to find some trackables while in the area. No such option available to search so I had to resort to the looking for hotel keyword. Would like the ability to filter out caches with/without trackables.
  2. Found one that has a cache nearby by accident while planning for a trip this coming summer, it is in Wyoming. Cache: http://coord.info/GC4QECZ
  3. There are several dive caches in the Red Grantite/Wautoma area, most put out by the hider of this cache: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC2WZTZ
  4. Yep, same issue for me! I've mistakenly logged caches on the wrong date due to this. I'll find a cache on the 25th log it, then find another on the 28th and go to log it and it listed the date as the 25th. I caught it only because I'm doing the day challenge and noticed that my day was still blank. Doesn't look good when I go in to edit the date..

    Maps

I've started to notice that in the last week for me that icons are not loading right away when I pan the map. If I zoom out there is a tendency for a lag on the caches appearing. It doesn't happen consitently and if I leave to my profile it seems to fix the issue.
  6. Menard's carries it also in the paint section. I'd avoid any except the one pictured, like one person commented it just doesn't stick for some reason.
  7. Ok, here we go: The Lair: http://coord.info/GC5D2D Big Spring Cache near Guttenburg: http://coord.info/GCJE26 Lansing Lookout: http://coord.info/GC21FA the next one is a bit of a hike for an Earthcache but a great area: http://coord.info/GC1C7AZ another earthcache at a waterfall with a traditional nearby: http://coord.info/GC1CEGC. There are a few more in the area that I'd recommend along with one of mine, but this should get you started. As for park and grabs, well tons of them in the area and I have some for you to avoid, but I won't list the hiders name to be nice.
  8. Decorah Iowa area has some great ones particulary do the waterfall in town. The Lair is a good one and is near a few of my caches In Guttenburg go north a bit out of town on X-56? and do the waterfall there also. Praire Du Chein has some nice ones in Wyalusing (spelling?). If I remember this thread later tonight I'll drop in ones up in this area that would be great caches. Depending on the timing I may be even able to meet up and say hello.
  9. New maps don't work right, I clicked on personalize and lost all my icons, the text popped up from behind but now icons to show where the caches are. Using Vista and Google Chrome.
  10. You may want to ask on the Minnesota Geocaching Association site, that will turn up more folks to help. http://mngca.org/
  11. This topic has been really hit hard in the last couple months, a simple search for Blackberry app would bring up this topic for you. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=270760&st=0&p=4657730&fromsearch=1entry4657730 http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=270146&st=0&p=4646651&fromsearch=1entry4646651 http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=267887&st=0&p=4602681&fromsearch=1entry4602681 Hope those links work as I copied them from past threads I've commented on. Simple story, CacheSense in my opinion is the way to go.
  12. Hide it with a tank camo job! Seems that's the most popular way to camoflauge them the best.
  13. I created a group for our little area on Facebook, great way to plan caching trips with local cachers. Plus, added bonus of being able to exchange information tidbits about sales, deals, or just help tb's move. Group is Coulee Region Cachers in the Wis. Iowa, Mn. area.
  14. I have a Bold and use CacheSense on mine to cache, I like it over Trimble which my wife uses as when I'm in an area with hardly any data service I still can continue on without standing around trying to find a signal.
  15. Worked for me on Friday night, did you try redownloading the app and then restart the computer?
  16. I use Cachesense on my Blackberry and can give you some pointers with it as it is about the best app for geocaching and yes, I've tried others... First, yes, it relies on pocket queries but that is great as that information is stored on your phone as I know we've been out and run into areas where the data coverage is not the best or non existant and having the info available on the phone is a big plus. Also, you can do databases with it so technically you could have way more than 2,000 caches on the phone, just not all open at one time, you can set up the databases based on where you may be i.e. different cities or maybe different pocket queries? (I say that as you can only download 1000 caches in a pq anyways) Second, there is a nearest cache function which takes you back to the geocaching nearest cache page and will display all found and unfound caches (due to GC's policies, which I would hope will change with the API, but I digress), so that you can select what you want for caches and then download into the app. I hope those points I made help, Blackstar is a nice gps app that does geocaching also, but doesn't poll the GC database either, in my opinion I'd rather keep data on the phone as like I stated above we've run into areas where data is non existant and having availble with no issue is big plus.
  17. Great! Vtwin is going to be getting ideas for different hides, as if I don't have a hard enough time already! Hope you have a great trip!
  18. Thanks Justin, looks like you fixed it for the Blackberries also! Yeah, it is funny that we are the ones with Blackberries, wonder what that says?
  19. I have a cache that I've searched for and probably logged about 6 dnf's for and even went with the cache owner as he was going to be nice and help me out and get it off my ignore list. Seems that it was missing since the last find and he didn't know it although you could see people had been looking for it. This is a hard cache and he uses the dnf rate to determine if he should go check up on it. So yeah, dnf's are an important tool.
  20. May be a good question to ask on the Wisconsin Geocaching Association's website, I seem to recall a bookmark list somewhere along the way.
  21. Getting the same message on my Blackberry Bold, OS6 on both Bolt and the BB Browser.
  22. I have a couple of caches on Wisconsin DNR land, to place a cache there you need to submit the form to them (I send them a pdf) to the local DNR contact for that area. Second, after you do that on the cache page you will need to place the following: The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to <NAME OF LAND MANAGER> of the Wisconsin DNR. Geocaches placed on Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource managed lands require permission by means of a notification form. Please print out a paper copy of the notification form, fill in all required information, then submit it to the land manager. The DNR Notification form and land manager information can be obtained at: http://www.wi-geocaching.com/hiding All the details on hiding a cache in Wisconsin can be found on the following page: http://www.wi-geocaching.com/modules.php?name=Wiki&pagename=Hiding%20A%20Cache Northern Highlands? Hope you follow through with the permission and get it approved so that when I'm up at Crystal Lake Campground in July I can go get it!
  23. I use my Blackberry from time to time, mainly to keep notes and for that I use Cachesense or Blackstar. Blackstar is free but primitive compared to Cachesense. Both require being able to download pocket queries into the phone.
  24. Give BlackStar a shot, I use it on my Blackberry and it works just like you want. I can stand out on a corner and get a signal lock on the gps, scroll down to nearest geocaches from Geocaching.com and in a few seconds(or minutes) I have all the nearest caches that I haven't found. Comes in handy when roaming and feel like caching without any notes. Only thing I've noticed is the gps eats the battery life and that the gps isn't real accurate, I would guess my gps is within about a 100 feet.
  25. Was going to mention the World's Largest Penny, but I see it was already added. Here is one in my area: World's Largest Six Pack, GC1MRNZ (Wisconsin) and you can't have a list of the largest things without the Ball of Twine! GCG3Q3 (Minnesota)
