  1. ooo... for a gadget collector like me that looks really interesting. I go walking on my own a lot, and this would be useful. Looking on amazon for one now !
  2. Following a recent personal experience, I am posting everywhere I can think of to make people aware of ICE In Case of Emergency Anything with ICE written on is immediately obvious to any of the emergency services, and should have with it emergency contact info (next of kin), your name and details such as DOB and medication. I have printed a card and laminated it and have it in my wallet / rucksack all the time. So when you are out caching, do you have this emergency info on you somewhere ? If you are unresponsive (as my girlfriend was) then this could be vital. Another thing - if you have a phone which locks itsself, which my Iphone does, then emergency services will not be able to access your contacts on it. Also I found the police cannot help either, unless you live with your next of kin. Just something to consider....!
  3. Hi, my name's Jason and I have been caching since 2008. Umm... that's it
  4. What kind of containers are you using? Cheers for the comments, I have ordered 100x gel satches for £3.99 so I am happy The containers I use are medical sample containers (unused !!!) Screw top with a nice tight seal I wrap them in camo-tape, so I guess the heat generated in sunshine causes the condensation inside
  5. I think I have finally solved a mystery - why my waterproof, airproof containers still get damp inside. Apparently it's due to the air inside condensing in the hot weather. So... does anyone have any ideas on how to stop this ? I had thought about putting a few grains of rice inside, like they do with salt containers in foreign countries. I would go for the proper sachets, but I have about 200 caches and that will be expensive
  6. An unpublished, disabled listing is not in the review queue. But it will show up on proximity checks by a reviewer. If someone places a cache within 528 feet of the coordinates and that newer cache listing is up for review, the reviewer will contact the owner of the older disabled unpublished cache and ask if they are planning to go forward with the cache. They'll probably give a time frame for response. No response = archive the listing and publishing the newer cache. Response will hold the place for a time. How much time is variable to circumstances. aha thanks, that's the answer I was after
  7. I like making cache trails - ie where several caches contain coordinates for an eventual bonus. To do this I have to do a reccie first where I work out where all the caches are going, then find where I am going to put the bonus cache. I then go back another day and put all the caches in place and each cache will then contain a printed clue for the bonus. I am wondering at which point the cache coordinates are protected ? ie, when noone else can put a cache within 600 ft of your cache ? Is it.... - when you create the cache, add coordinates, and save it but dont send it for review yet - when it's waiting for review - or is it only protected when it's published ? I think a reviewer once told me, when I had problems with a cache, that the coordinates were protected at that point. It would be really annoying if a cache failed review and someone else got in there and put a cache in my spot before it passed review.....
  8. I have an odd situation. I am trying to post a new cache. Before doing so I have checked all nearby caches and there is nothing for at least 1,300 feet away. I have since been told that my cache is near a hidden cache (I am guessing a final location). This won't show on google earth or any other searches. So my question is, how can anyone place a cache with any certainty that they are not breaching proximity rules ? There are only 2 ways I can see around this :- 1) Do every mystery cache within a few miles of where you want to put your cache 2) Keep visiting the cache location, move it, republish and keep doing this until your cache gets through
  9. ah ok. Any ideas on how to improve this ? The lid overlaps the container so I would think that any water would run off. Unless it's actually submerged in water then I would understand but this is still puzzling !
  10. Hi, I am a bit puzzled about my caches as I keep getting ones reported as wet. I put them in 35mm film containers. By design they are air tight. I once put an alca-seltza tablet in water in one of them to make it explode (a fun thing from TV) so I know they are tight. Saying all this I have had 4 reports now of different caches becoming wet and the logs inside rotting. I went to 2 of these the other day. The container was intact and lid was on but the cache was wet. Strangely this container was not a normal 35 mm container but a special one I bought from a geocache site which also said it was water tight. So just wondered if someone had ideas why my logs are getting wet !!
  11. Some of the caches are just moving a few metres, then others later on are on a totally different path. So I will archive as suggested and do some new ones. As for the physical caches themselves I guess I redo the logs and move the big containers (and leave the little ones where they are)
  12. By cache trail I mean that I have lots of micro caches leading to a bonus cache. You have to work around the trail to pick up coords - a multi stage cache
  13. I created a cache trail about 6 months ago, and since then about 30 people have done the trail, signed the logs, and commented on the areas. I want to move the trail because some parts are in areas I didn't intend them to be in, and several people got lost and didn't stay on my intended path. What are the ethics on moving a trail, since the new trail would not be in the same spirit as the old trail - if people do the new trail they won't be experiencing the same walk (or hills !)
  14. Hi, I am a bit new to goecaching. Good fun though I have a couple of questions ...... - is it ok to leave an item without taking anything ? - is it ok to leave a sig item and exchange for someone else's sig item ? I am guessing the answer is yes to both questions, but I want to make sure I am not breaking any etiquettes
