Lol, what inspired that bit of wisdom I wonder? But anyway, I've thought about this possibility (the wackos, not the hamsters), but I just figured I was paranoid. I figure I'm more likely to have my car broken into, or be randomly attacked by a renegade bird (has happened, well almost), or fall off of something than get blown up by a cache. But that's why I don't leave anything valuable in my car, or go caching alone.

You know I was thinking about leaving batteries (that seemed insanely useful), but I wasn't sure how well they hold up to weather. And a corroded battery in a cache is definitely NOT something anyone would want to find. I'm trying to think of an inexpensive sig item, haven't thought of anything thus far.

Excuses To Muggles
Silfron Mandotheneset replied to Laugh Your Cache Off's topic in General geocaching topics
"I'm working on a research paper." Haven't had to use this for caching, waiting for my GPSr to come in the mail (impatiently, I might add). But I can't tell you how many uses this one has! Of course it only really works if you look high school or college aged. Or if you have elementary aged kids with you, but apparently those groups don't get much attention -
I would've thought there'd be more 21-30s, just from the college student point of view. But anyways, I voted

New to geocaching - lamp posts?
Silfron Mandotheneset replied to Silfron Mandotheneset's topic in Midwest
Er, yeah that was the idea. I'm confused now though O_o did I miss something? -
Ok, so I know no schools but....

How do I know who that is, and how do I contact them? I'm such a newbie, sorry . Not planning on actually hiding one until I've found a few more, but planning ahead is always a good thing Thanks both of you for the information so far. I'll go check if there are any there already, I honestly hadn't even considered that possibility. Which seems quite silly now that I think about it -
I know that "Caches near, on or under public structures deemed potential or possible targets for terrorist attacks. These may include but are not limited to highway bridges, dams, government buildings, elementary and secondary schools, and airports" are not allowed, but I'm assuming that means hiding one on a college campus would be acceptable, assuming of course that I had the appropriate permission? Assuming that that true, my question is this: does anyone have any experience doing this sort of thing? Are they likely to be muggled (the place I'm thinking of has some very rarely-visited areas, but still)? Who do you go to for permission? Is there anything else I need to know? Not looking to do this anytime soon, just thought I'd ask so as to have plenty of time for a response

I've read a lot about how geocachers supposedly know more about lamp posts than any other group of people. I assume this is because there are a lot of caches attached to/near/inside/whatever lamp posts? If so, could someone direct me to a lamp post cache in the KC or Wichita area? If none exist around here the Oklahoma City area (or north of it) would be fine too, as I travel down there a lot. I just want to see what all the hype is about

Woah! I'm impressed.

It doesn't go off road either. Which I find very, very odd. That's what mine was set on, and... not so much.

Where do I get a travelbug? And how much do they cost generally? I have an interesting quest I'd like to send one on

Where can I print out a microcache log?
Silfron Mandotheneset replied to cnh624's topic in How do I...?
Its a pop bottle before the manufacturer blows it up to the shape they want the bottle to be in. It looks like a test tube with a pop bottle screw-on-top on it. Preform Not to hijack this thread... but I have to say that is possibly the coolest thing I've seen in a while No, I'm not easily amused. Why do you ask? -
Ah... what's a TB?
-
That much at least seems like common sense That's brilliant. Thanks for the advice Thanks everybody feel free to keep posting though.

Only done one cache so far (with a friend and her GPSr), but trying to do the second I learned that those nifty little GPSrs that you can buy for cars are virtually useless for finding caches O_o The thing got me to the park, but that's about it. And I already knew where the park was

Well, since I got such a fast response from my question about muggles, I figured I might as well ask this while I'm thinking of it What do you usually take to leave in a cache an/or what do you usually find in one? Obviously small things, but I just have no ideas whatsoever I really want to get this more or less figured out before my GPS arrives in the mail at the end of the week Thanks a ton for your help, you guys are just so darn... well, helpful!

Double post

Wow that was a fast response! Thanks! I'll have to go practice my stealthy ninja-skills in the backyard for a bit I guess.

Being the rule-following newbie that I am, I searched the FAQs for muggles, and found out that they are exactly what I thought they were. However, I'm curious, I've seen some people's logs say they couldn't find a cache because of too many muggles. Why is that? Are there unwritten (or written) rules about muggles seeing us find caches? If so, please fill me in

I tried using a Mio too, and failed rather miserably on two different caches that should have been easy that said I recently bought a Garmin eTrex H from a website (Newegg.com) for $85, which even with the $8 shipping was cheaper than any other one I could find.
