  1. Nikwax has always been a favourite of mine
  2. because TPTD don't seem to like mentioning these alternative 'coins' which are not Groundspeak products
  3. Hi I would like to place a Letterbox Hybrid and would prefer to make a stamp for it which is personal to us and which has some relevance to the cache itself. What can anyone recommend as an effective means of hand-crafting the stamp ? I have already found suppliers who can turn my pencil sketches into a manufactured stamp but I am just intrigued with making it from scratch TIA Mac
  4. [Thinks/] maybe I should print some of these up and laminate them to drop in plundered caches and to help steer newbie's along the right path ?[/thinks]
  5. We love having pictures posted of my caches (not spoilers) - it's great to see others appreciate the effort we put in as the CO and enjoy our hides We will be replacing the cache camera from inside one of our caches very soon too - this has never been an ALR but very much an optional piece of fun.
  6. I've gone back though my larger cache listings and added this banner too, it hasn't stopped the rot but makes me feel better that I have done my bit Oddly enough, my originally best stocked cache has remained my consistently best stocked cache, not sure why ? placed with permission adjacent to a permissive footpath far across the parkland grounds from an old stately home which has been converted to a rather expensive, adults only hotel - a hidden gem perhaps ?
  7. I have a cache that is placed above head head for average adults and have specified in the description that to claim a find you have to retrieve and sign the log - and this is reflected in the terrain rating and special equipment requirement If you have been to a GZ where you could reasonably have expected to find a cache without needing special equipment then I feel you should be able to claim a smiley
  8. Additional Logging REQUIREMENTS, originally mandatory for logging are no longer enforceable Additional Logging REQUESTS, optional suggestions from the CO might just be worth following through - depending on the specific situation
  9. CITO always - including within the cache container also, over the summer I have happily emptied caches stuffed full of calling cards and log books over 2 years old to make space for new log books (my donations) and for dropping coins and bugs - in all cases the COs appreciated the support and we made arrangements for return of logbooks over a few emails. where we particularly like the hide / location / camo or if it's particularly kid friendly I will trade up heavily and donate several decent (new !) pieces of swag
  10. It's almost possible, you can view each TB's track in Google Earth and from that build a mashup of all your TB's - not quite the same as Google Maps I know
  11. We've seen three notebooks with TB's 1) a blank notebook - write a page adding to a story that was growing as the book travelled 2) a furry backed blank notebook - write a joke before moving on 3) a tiny, Penguin themed notebook - add your caching handle and move on for everything book related (or with an ISBN number) I use BookCrossing for the tracking and regularly release vac-sealed paperbacked fiction into caches
  12. I believe the 100 finds requirement has now been lifted and you can purchase a yearbook of letterbox locations (Google search and you will find the author/distributor) We were on Dartmoor for Easter and couldn't find a cache in a popular area without finding several letterboxes - add a stamp pad, plain paper notebook & a memorable rubber stamp to your caching kit just in case.
  13. Post a Needs Maintenance log and if it's not dealt with another cacher should upp this with a Should Be Archived - the local reviewers can then step in
  14. Our first GC1C92T was a film can at a memorable spot for the D Day landings and was a great way to remember Ken Small who campaigned for a decent memorial to the troops crossing the Channel
  15. Rate it correctly, use the Attributes and describe it well and you'll be fine - hide it !
  16. Using a single nail or screw may not damage a mature tree and is a generally accepted practise for fixing nestboxes when placing them for birds to use The UK's Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) guidance improves this with "It is better to attach it either with a nylon bolt or with wire around the trunk or branch."
