Tried to get my repaired 2 months ago, Garmin no longer has the repair kits. Ended up buying an Etrex 20 which doesn't have the rubber band.

So for the clueless, can we get these maps onto our GPS??

I've been caching for a couple of years, 300+ finds. This summer my partner/girlfriend has decided she likes to go with me and find the occasional cache. However, she always asks how I signed the log. I always use my handle. She sometimes gets mad if I don't use her name. So, should I change my handle to include her (90% of my finds are on my own), or should she create her own handle to log the finds she makes with me?

Good idea, mine has been hanging around lately and always asks "how did I sign it". Usually I try and sign so she can't see and just tell her I put her name down. But that's not going to work for too much longer!!

When I come on the site and click on browse then get taken to my "All Geocaches" page the setting is always the same. Obviously it shows all the nearest caches to my home location which have all been found. Is there any way to change the default setting for this page? I know that I can select "New Search" and get a new page (which is really what I want) but it doesn't stay as my default page. Any suggestions? Thanks,

So then...show us an example of THAT... Your example shows two displays of the same thing. They look different because Garmin has improved the way maps are displayed with newer models. All models from the Colorado on use a different map display style. Include the actual location in your example so we can check the maps ourselves. I personally have a dozen different maps covering Canada to check against including the one you are using... I'll try and post something showing that after I get home. What other maps are you using?

Just to clarify, Inever said I don't like the dispay on the Etrex20, it's just so different from the display on the HCx, showing the same maps. On the HCx I get a clear shot of a new highway that just opened north of me. On the Etrex20, that highway does not show up...same software, same version but different units show different things and I don't think the topo detail is as intense on the 20.

Thanks for the responses. I have my setting on Recreation and I also have all other (2) maps (that came with device) disabled. I'm just confused as to why there is such a difference in screens. As an example, this weekend out geocaching, I was heading towards a find following the route through some trees when I got to the end of the trees and saw a small lake. The map didn't even show the lake so I thought it was a direct walk to the geocache. Instead I had to go around the lake as the cache was on the other side. Had the map shown the lake I would have known this from the start.

First send it to a web site that can host pictures. One likely place is to a cache page (one that's not activated if you have that). Then right-click the photo, and copy the "properties" (should be a web address ending in .jpg), and that's the image link. I sometimes use an easy "tiny" photo upload site to send a quick pic, but not everyone can view other photo sites due to IP blocks at work or whatever. thanks

How do I attach a photo to a post. The only way I can see that is possible is through the attach image button but then you have to link it to a web address. I just want to attach a photo of mine to show a problem. Thanks,

My detail settings are set on high. I took a couple of photos of what the screens look like on both units. I can't seem to upload the pics to this forum.]If you also notice that both maps are set at 300m yet the e20 sure looks to be zoomed in a lot closer (these are virtually the same areas). Also, on the HCx, lakes always show a full blue yet on the 20 many lakes are just shown as crossing lines (which you can see at the bottom on the screen on the 20)/Users/scottdaniels/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Masters/2012/05/29/20120529-192704/DSC_0001.JPG

Assume you don't like the Etrex20 display. Make sure you have the detail settings as high on both devices and select the Recreational Profile on the E30. Menu>Setup>Map>Advanced Map Setup>Detail Level does the detail. Setup>Profiles>Recreational does the profiles. What maps are you using? Garmin Topo Canada V4.00

Does anyone have an explanation as to why my topo maps look so different on two different GPS units. I have an HCx which had the maps installed and I used for a couple of years. I went to an Etrex 20 to get the paperless advantage. I up the same maps onto it that were on the HCx but the look of the maps is totally different (not as detailed). The maps are the most recent version so that shouldn't be a problem. Could I have not downloaded to the 20 properly or is it supposed to look different from device to device? Thanks,

I'm having the same issue with Google maps. Each time I click on the cache it just zooms in. After about 5 or 6 click/zooms the cache page will open.

On another note, I can't download my TOPO Canada maps onto the mac. I can put it on the PC. I get a failure error on the mac. I've been dealing with Garmin on this as well and they don't seem to have any answers other than asking for screenshots.

Funny, but everything worked fine on my mac until I renewed my membership 2 days ago. Then nothing worked on the mac. Coincidence?? Maybe, but I did have the ability to download individual caches on mac for the 4 days I owned the E20 prior to renewing, then nothing. I can't even load my Garmin map disk on the mac but can on the pc. Yes I can use a pc to make everything work but that is not my computer. One thing I have noticed is that Garmin communicator 4.0.1 works on the pc. It doesn't on the mac and I need 4.0.1.1 which is not readily available. It seems that if I have one version loaded on the gps, i can't use the gps on the other system that is not compatible to the currently loaded version on the gps. Apparently, the trash is stored on the device with a Mac. When I delete a file from a memory card on a PC I get a message "Are you sure you want to PERMANENTLY delete this file?" My hard drive's trash may fill up, but I'm not likely to fill up a device with removable memory. When the OP says "But I can do all this on a pc. My computers a mac." maybe he meant it "works fine" but he wasn't that specific. Didn't say how long ago he could do it for instance. Sounded to me like it was a device problem (trashcan) or maybe a BaseCamp problem. That's why I linked him to Garmin's BC for Mac forum.

Does the rising cost of gas put a dent in your ability to go out caching? Personally, I try to find and area where I can park and wander in the bush for a couple of hours hunting caches. I'm trying to stay away from driving from cache to cache. As the wetaher gets nicer my bike comes out and I like getting into areas that a vehicle can't get to.

Had my Etrex 20 for a few days and had to get used to it. Been using my mac and an Etrex Legend HCX with no issues other than not being able to run PQ's. All of a sudden I'm not able to do anything on my mac with the E20. I keep getting error messages from Garmin and I've uploaded communicators and installers to the point I don't know whats going on. I doesn't read the gps. At one point I couldn't download single caches, got some advice on how to do it, it worked for a day then I can't load single caches anymore But I can do all this on a pc. My computers a mac. I'm not techno savvy so any one have suggestions. Is this a Garmin issue? Frustrated as hell. Never had any issues with my HCX and mac. sd

with my Etrex 20 and I can't work off the gps, which I could do with my HCX. Is this normal? All I get on my gps is that electric type symbol(?)
