  1. I know due to privacy regulations that Groundspeak doesn't and can't demand a pic, but what better way to ensure that one has actually visited the site than provide a pic of you in front of it. I have found lots of waymarks that are virts and perhaps it's not totally cool, but I've taken pics for both. I don't think Groundspeak could do much about it except ask that waymarkers obscure relevant info. Cheers CZ
  2. Hello all, I have a Traveling Gavel TB that wants to go to various lodges, trouble is, I can't seem to get it into the hands of a masonic geocacher. I'm going to DC next week via Philly and Baltimore and would be willing to meet up for a drop off. I'm a past master of Salem #368 in Brockville, Ontario and this gavel was given to me first specifically to move on, so I'm really wanting to get it moving. You can respond to me at my geocaching.com sig "Canadianzombie". Here is the link for the TB. http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?guid=072081f5-9499-4237-b474-0fc29b2416fe Cheers CZ
  3. I really enjoy Waymarking, but often feel that it's the red headed step child of geocaching. It's quite evident, by the continuing errors in things like "There's a book about it" (over a month). I'm sure that this has been discussed before, but I'd be willing to pay $10 - $15 per year if Waymarking were taken seriously by Groundspeak. I mean come on, pocket queries, error fixes. If 1000 people (and I'm sure there'd be more) gave $10 each, they'd have $10,000 to play with to come up with something. If it's money that drives change, please take my $10. Cheers CZ
  4. I've long been a Titanic buff and this being the 100th anniversary, I think it'd be a great time for a category like this. I'd be an officer or leader, although I've never done either before. Anybody interested? Cheers CZ
  5. I've had a lot of my waymarks visited recently by a person the person who hasn't left a pic on any of them. Out of all the waymarks I've done, I've taken a pic at about 99% of them. Now I find it more amusing than anything as I feel that if you don't have pics the majority of time, then your credibility is perhaps lacking, but in the end it's all about honesty and fun. I was just wondering if anybody else has had that happened. They literally found about 160 of my waymarks with not a pic (lol). Cheers CZ
  6. I always used to see a location when geocaching and say "that'd be a cool spot for a geocache", now I also look at things and say "that'd be a cool waymark". I've visited spots I never knew about before to cache, but have also done the same with Waymarking. I've learned about things I had no knowledge of before as well. So is it worth it, most certainly, but worth is subjective I suppose. Cheers CZ
  7. I never used to log my own waymarks, but somebody (a very experienced somebody) asked me why I wasn't. So I did and do, I don 't find it equivalent to logging your own cache in anyway, which I wouldn't do. In any event number padding in Waymarking is kind of senseless as for the most part, most people don't care. I told somebody that I found 674 separate grid categories in Waymarking and they couldn't care less, but when I told them I had 5162 cache finds it meant something to them. In any event, the whole subject is really a mute one, just enjoy Waymarking and keep putting them out as it adds to the fun for others, I've actually got a few people hooked on it and they love it now. Cheers CZ
  8. I put out a challenge that would have people dressing up as a zombie in my hometown (Hey I'm Canadianzombie), right off the bat I get four thumbs down. Now why on God's green earth would Groundspeak allow anonymous thumbs up and down. Hey even Facebook acknowledges who has given a like. The trolls have been given power and that's not fair, according to my challenge, I've gotten four thumbs down and three thumbs up. I believe that unless you've done the challenge, you don't have a say. I say unless you speak up and aren't anonymous, you don't have a say. It totally infuriates me that the trolls have the upper hand here, very discouraging and something that I feel was a major blunder. I've recently gotten into Waymarking and will continue to do that as well as caching, but putting out challenges is an exercise in frustration and I'll not be doing any more. Cheers CZ
  9. I have a cache called CZ's M-81 Challenge (GC21X2K), it's much like a fizzy cache in every way except by name. Is there a way I could add it to the Fizzy Challenge list? Cheers CZ
  10. Past Master of Salem #368 Brockville, Ontario, Canada. I've put a cache out behind our lodge and it's full of history of the lodges in our district. Cheers CZ
  11. My local Army Surplus guy tells me that a military GPS can put you within a foot of your target. He also says that those GPS units aren't just available to anyone. Cheers Mark
  12. I've been having some accuracy issues with the Garmin lately. Sometimes it's spot on, other times I'm off by 30-40 feet. It has to do with tree cover at times, but not always. The problem is and has been, if I'm in a forest of thick overgrowth and my search area has been expanded by 40 feet, it's damned hard to find a cache. If this sounds familiar or you have any suggestions, by all means, shoot me some ideas/suggestions. Cheers Mark
  13. Thanks, I appreciate the info. Cheers Mark
  14. I was wondering how other people log their finds. Do you use a paper journal or do you do it electronically. I've only found 4 caches, but it'd be cool to have a record of when I found it and who was with me at the time. I tried a paper notebook from our local Wally World, but the pages are sketchy and I figure will tear out after a weeks use. Thanks in advance for any help offered. Cheers Mark
  15. I know this question has been asked a million times and much like what kind of car should I get, it's up to personal preference. I ask because I did some research and thought that the Garmin Etrex Legend would suffice, but then I've read that the reception is often poor and the screen isn't colour. I'm from Canada, but live on the border and can go to a store in the States as they are invariably cheaper. I don't want to fall into the newb trap of getting an expensive piece of equipment and not liking it, but I also don't want to get a unit I won't be happy with either. I have a budget of about $200 give or take, so if someone with some experience could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate this a lot. Cheers Mark
