Davy Boy Hits The Big One!

Well done - a huge milestone! -
Extraordinary - new data files incompatible with old program versions is quite common. Old data files incompatible with new program versions is a real rarity! The first may be acceptable as a price of progress; the second seems a bit of a rip-off. However, as MM V5 doesn't appear to have overwritten MM 2004, all is not lost...

I've been using MM 2004 for about a year. When I recently bought MM Selections to get a 1:25k area, I installed MM V5 as recommended on the CD. Now I find that V5 won't load my 1:50k map files (legally purchased) stating they're incompatible. That's all of regions 1 to 6, not a trivial matter! Is there a way I can use the 1:50k files with V5? I certainly don't want to buy them all over again!

Under tree cover my GPS often loses all sense of direction - it's because it doesn't have a magnetic compass, not a malfunction. I ignore the displayed arrow and focus on the distance countdown. If you also take bearings with a real compass (starting before you enter the trees!) you have a pretty accurate combination.

Well done WW & navigator - you've enjoyed over 2 years of far-ranging discovery. Thanks, too, for your own fine caches. -
Well done on reaching 1000, and thank you for setting so many interesting caches, too.

Well done!

Congratulations on your 900th - also on an impressive 1:30 hides:finds ratio!

Well done! TV was terrific and we look forward to more Devon visits.

A Saturday in South Wilts would appeal to us (we usually orienteer on Sundays!).
-
Well done - only another 7000 or so to go!
-
Well done! Our first cache was your 'Secret Chapel' (now archived) and you've set a fine standard for others to follow. Keep up the good work!
-
Well done! We remember your FTF on Christmas Day 2003 and it's good to see the magic's still there.

It seems you were very busy while you were away - congratulations! (We think Woodbury Walker has forgiven you for Hissing Sid).

Well done from us (Ben says woof).

Merry Christmas One And All
Mike+Mary replied to Cave Troll and Eeyore's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Happy Christmas everyone, and a big thank you for all the special places you've taken us to. -
We began with Streetmap printouts and only bought an Etrex when we knew we'd been bitten by the caching bug. Our most satisfying early find was a cache in the depths of a forest where the clue was "...between two silver birch trees." There were hundreds! It took a lot of 'where would I hide it' thinking to locate it.
-
Congratulations from the three of us. I recall your elation on finding our first cache on Christmas Day - less than 11 months but it seems an age away!

You don't need to buy them. If you're happy to use 3x3km blocks, go to Streetmap, enter your destination, select your scale and print a map in OS Landranger format. Streetmap (or Multimap) plus a road atlas works fine.
