  1. I find it hard to believe that this relatively benign thread cause a long time, avid geocacher to quit the sport. Either he was basically through with it already and is just using this as an excuse, or he's playing the martyr game and looking for sympathy. It's unconscionable that people are trying to pin his geocide on Blb9556 and Legocacher. I did not see anywhere in this thread that I was being blamed. Coaster posted in the Central Ohio Geocacher Forum that he was through with caching, long before I became an active cacher. I started this thread simply to find an answer to what I thought was an innocent question, and had no idea that it would become a war.
  2. I adopted 8 caches today that I have never found (what was I thinking?). I am going out over the weekend to track them down, and I intend to log them as finds.
  3. My Hobby Lobby did not have any rare earth magnets. They only had some rather weak things that would not work very well in a cache container. The hard drive magnet idea is a great one. I have some laying around here that I will start tearing apart.
  4. double post (note to self - if the web site gives you a timeout DO NOT reload it, your post went through okay)
  5. The web site lists a "Pull Force", is that the same as what you are describing as "load capacity"? They sell a 5/8" dia. x 1/8" thick magnet with a pull force of 26.87 lbs for 90 cents apiece. A few of those in the bottom should hold a 6 oz. capacity Lock N Lock to just about any piece of metal.
  6. This is great information, but what do you suggest for a power rating for a cache container? It sounds like I do not need N42!
  7. You are right on. I wrote several paragraphs to the appeals court as to why they should let me adopt this cache. They used very few words to say no. It is the cache site that is significant, and I plan to place a new cache there, but there is no guarantee that the new cache will get approved (it probably will, but there is that risk).
  8. I need somewhere that I can buy some good powerful magnets to glue into the bottom of a plastic container to hold it into place, because I don't want to use an MKH. I have been to all of the hobby & department stores in my area, and haven't found anything that will work so far. Does anyone have a great place to buy something that will work? Also, once I get some magnets, what is the best way to glue them into the container? Oh, while I am asking questions, does anyone just spray paint their Lock N Lock containers, as opposed to using camo duct tape?
  9. Well, I am actually a LEGO figure that enjoys geocaching.
  10. I am in possession of some coins which are only identified as "Cacher Geocoins" on my trackables page. I checked the list at trackablecoins.com, but did not find this title. How can I find out who created this design, and where they were produced? Thanks!
  11. I doubt it. I posted a "needs maint." log entry because when I found it the night before it needed a new log book, and he (almost) immediately archived it. See his log entry here.
  12. I searched the forum, and didn't find anything. I asked a reviewer in an email, but have not gotten a response. The adoption page does not let you offer an archived cache for adoption. I believe that this cache is worthy of adoption, because it is historically significant for this area. I posted a note this morning that the log needed replacing, and the owner immediately archived it. I found out later that he is not interested in geocaching anymore, and wanted to archive the cache a year ago, but it seems that he never got around to it. I told him that I would be willing to adopt it, now I just need the site operators to enable it.
  13. Why would a cache be wrapped in a plastic bag? Never heard of that before.
  14. The OP stated that there were no log entries in the cache. If it were just a cacher on vacation, surely they would have logged their visit in the log book?
  15. What exactly is a Path Tag, and what is a Cache Tag?
  16. On the front page of GC.com is the "Getting Started" link (top item in the left nav). That takes you to the "Getting Started with Geocaching" page, which has a prominent link near the top to "Register for a free account." Clicking that link takes you to the Premium Membership Payment Details page. How would a newbie find the free account signup?
  17. Generally, the GPSr will only get you to within about 20 feet, so once you get to "ground zero", you need to start thinking like a geocacher. Look around and think about where the hider might have placed the cache. Also, you might consider NOT looking for micro caches, at least until you have some experience finding regular size caches.
  18. Would this work on a silicon mold used to make LEGO ice cubes (link here)? Would I have to spray the mold before pouring in the resin? The Envirotex lite seems to stick well to the surfaces I have put it on really good, so I would definetly suggest a vasoline layer for sure applied with a paintbrush prior to the resin. This will certainly release it better. Are the ice-cube trays flexible rubber or somewhat rigid? The trays are flexible silicone. Thanks for the advice!
  19. Would this work on a silicon mold used to make LEGO ice cubes (link here)? Would I have to spray the mold before pouring in the resin?
  20. I get this at the geocaching.com home page: Server Error in '/' Application. Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine. Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off". <!-- Web.Config Configuration File --> <configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="Off"/> </system.web> </configuration> Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL. <!-- Web.Config Configuration File --> <configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/> </system.web> </configuration>
  21. Being that lego has a smooth surface, permanent marker or an ink stamp will eventually wear off. You could put on a small sticker like a stamp address sticker. Or design a small brand, heat it up with a tiny torch and fuse the sig into the side of the lego!! That's what I had in mind, "burning" something into the block somehow, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet.
  22. I like to leave LEGO blocks. I plan on finding a way to mark my signature on them.
  23. Well, when I see someone holding a GPSr and a piece of paper, while looking areound the cache location, I usually ask them if they have found the cache
