  1. I just bought the Garmin GPSmap 66. I've had the Garmin 60CSX and Garmin 62s for a very long time now. I'm just wondering if it's possible to move the data from those two GPS devices such as odometer and waypoints over to my new Garmin GPSmap 66? If so, how do I do it?
  2. I'm really interested in the Garmin GPSMAP 66s. Does this still use USB-Mini? Ideally it'll use USB-C, but it seems like Garmin is stuck in the stone age by continuing to use USB-Mini with their outdoor devices. Anyone here have any recommendations on a screen protector for this device? Is it possible to use GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo simultaneously to improve accuracy? If not, would I be better off using GPS+GLONASS since the EU haven't completed the Galileo rollout? What other settings are you guys using to maximize accuracy such as enabling WAAS? I also never heard of RINEX before. I'm really interested in it. I was hoping to use it with a recording interval of one second for my tracklog. Is RINEX recording separate from that? How do I enable it and also get the device to record a tracklog with an interval of 1 second? How do I post-process the data to further improve the accuracy of my tracklog? Thank you?
  3. Why did you turned off GLONASS? Is there a way to lock the keys to prevent accidental pressing?
  4. Thank you. Will battery save mode impact the Garmin's ability to record data accurately at a 1 second interval? I won't even be looking at the screen so it doesn't matter to me if the LCD is at a ultra lower power state. Do you turn on WAAS or any of the other fancy features to ensure maximum accuracy?
  5. I use to do that, but I just want to record at a 1 second interval. Thanks for the suggestion though.
  6. It's to not only keep data for my own adventures, but also geotagging my photos.
  7. Thanks Bernard. I forgot about setting it to archive when it's full. Is it necessary? If not, then I'm assuming it'll overwrite the older data? I want to set it to not only archive when full, but also daily. I just don't know when it'll decide to archive since it doesn't specify the time especially when I'm travelling. I don't think the CSx have that option. I still have my unit and it's approaching 10 years old. I guess I'm going off-topic and I am thinking about bringing my 60CSx with me as a backup option. Since the 60CSx have the ability to record tracks to a memory card, I essentially have unlimited ability to record at a 1 second interval. I want to set up the 60CSx to record at a 1 second interval whenever the GPS is on. I want to set it and forget it. I'm assuming since it have a memory card installed, the 60CSx will just automatically create new tracks when the old one gets full? I'm assuming the filenames will have the correct dates on it? Also, is it possible to disable the buttons when the 60CSx is in my backpack? Sometimes the buttons are pressed and menus are accessed because of the amount of content in my bag. How do I configure the 60CSx for maximum accuracy when recording at a 1 second interval? I'm assuming WAAS have to be enabled? Thanks!
  8. I'll be using the Garmin 64s strictly for recording track logs. I intend to set it to record at a 1 second interval. So here are my questions. Obviously there's a limit to the number of points per track. Since I'll be recording at a 1 second interval, does that mean by the time a new GPX file is created because the previous GPX file is filled up, then the first point on the second GPX track just picks off where the first GPX file ended? If I set it to archive on a daily basis, how does the Garmin 64s determine when the day is over? Does it rely on UTC time? If I'm travelling, then I'll be moving across timezones and that can be problematic. Is there anything else that I can do to ensure maximum performance and accuracy from my Garmin 64s? Get the latest firmware update? Toggling certain options under settings? Thanks!
  9. I'm looking for an app that can record 10hz/second as the GLO outputs 10hz/second. My main purpose is to record a highly accurate track log. The app should be smart enough to auto archive on a daily basis. The app should be a set it and forget it type of app. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  10. Thanks for the post Bernard. I also have the 60CSX myself and I think it's only that unit that allows me to save the GPX files on to a microSD card. I don't see any option to get the 64S to save directly to a memory card. So it's 9.530KB for 86,600 points in 24 hours? You sure you don't mean 9.5MB?
  11. I just read a review from Amazon and I hope Garmin have fixed it because that is a deal breaker for me. Can any other Foretrex owners chime in?
  12. What's the purpose of the Foretrex series? Can the Foretrex be used like my Garmin 64s where I can set it to record a track log at one coordinate per second? Does the Foretrex 601 use AA batteries like the Garmin 64s? It seems like the Foretrex 601 only have a patch antenna. How does that affect its accuracy when compared to the 64s? Thanks!
  13. I know Garmin's handheld GPS devices only store around 10,000 points before a new GPX file is created. I'm just wondering if I set my Garmin 64s to record one coordinate per second, then how big will my files be over a 24 hour period? Thanks.
  14. Thanks for the response, but it doesn't quite answer my questions.
  15. Prior to Instagram removing the Photo Map feature last year, I was able to upload my geotagged images to Instagram and it'll be displayed on the map. Even if I don't select a location in Instagram, the Photo Map will use the embedded GPS coordinates in the EXIF to determine where the picture will show up on the map. Since I didn't select the actual location in Instagram and now that the Photo Map have been removed, I don't see any way to see the locations in any of those photos. Why is that the case?
  16. How's the accuracy of the GPS performance when compared to the Garmin 64 series?
  17. I rather not swap batteries as I don't have a separate charger to charge the extra battery. Like I said earlier, I intend to use an elastic band to hold the battery pack and the GLO together. Do you have any suggestion on a high quality, but super durable USB cable that doesn't mind being bent repeatedly?
  18. My iPad doesn't have GPS and I'm not going to buy the 4G LTE iPad.
  19. I haven't bought the Garmin GLO yet. The Garmin GLO's stated battery life isn't long enough for my use. Is it possible to use the Garmin GLO with an external USB power source? If so, is it as simple as just plugging the USB cable in to the power source? Any recommendation for a USB cable that's designed for use in the outdoors? I'm thinking of using an elastic band and tie both the external power source and the Garmin GLO together. Then use a very short, but durable USB cables to connect the two units together. Do you guys have a better suggestion on how to do this? Thanks!
  20. Thanks for the suggestion, but I need an app that will allow me to select a recording interval.
  21. I'm looking for an iOS app for either the iPod Touch or iPad Mini 4 that have similar features as Google's My Tracks. It should work with a bluetooth GPS and record coordinates at a 1 second interval and can output a track as a GPX file. Any suggestions? Here's the link to Google's My Tracks in case no one here have used that app before. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.maps.mytracks
  22. Your review actually made things pretty depressing. I was expecting much more from the Epix. Maybe I'll be better off with the Fenix 3.
  23. Since most devices cannot accurately measure elevation, even with a barometric altimeter, I'm wondering if there are any websites out there with accurate elevation data? If so, can I simply punch in the latitude and longitude to obtain to elevation data for anywhere on Earth?
  24. Anyone here purchased and tried out this app?
  25. I agree. I see Garmin increasingly being under pressure from its competitors. I definitely don't see myself spending $400-$500 on dedicated GPS anymore now that smartphones are more than good enough for my needs. I suspect it'll be the same with their GPS watches as the Apple Watch and Android Wear catches on with the public.
