  1. Got my baby three weeks ago. Oh the shock and horror to find that YJF was arcived and I couldn't log it!
  2. I'm 20, but my birthday is in 3 days. I'm planning on setting up a special memorial cache: The Keg Cache note: Don't worry, it will be with in guidelines!
  3. Thats it! The round headed on at the top of the 'riviets' list. So, then maybe this isn't a mark at all? Its only on the one corner of the bridge, though, and I have heard of rivets being used before.
  4. Not sure what a monel rivet is, but this definattly is a disk, about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. It does seam to be more curved upward then a standard disk, this help any?
  5. Here's anouther one I found, its a Ohio DOT Right of Way Marker. This one is one of many running along SR 113 all on the south side. They were spaced maybe half a mile apart, and I counted maybe 8 of them that I noticed.
  6. Ever been out benchmark hunting and find a mark that isn't listed but either its very unique or you just got an outstanding picture of it? Well, then this thread is for you! Post the pic and some info about your mark to make things a little more intresting. I'll start us off with a US Department of Interior BM I found a while back: Found this one off of a USGS topo map, place on a railroad bridge passing over SR 303 in Beldon, Ohio. Turns out it was a USGS disk, just with a differnt marking.
  7. I found a really wierd mark today. It is set into a bridge down the road from my house, and I stumbled upon it while I was walking. Thing about it, as you can see, there is no markings on it at all! And of course it's not listed in the database so I'm assuming its probelly a local or state DOT mark, but from the lack of ID who knows. Has anyone else seen one like this before?
  8. This one should be a quick one or two post quicky. When a surveyor is setting a new benchmark, do they set it first and then determin its eleveation and/or location or do they determine the info first and then set it? Just curius.
  9. Today I found a benchmark set by the US Department of Interior. It wasn't listed, but it is on a USGS topo map for my area. My question: What do they do in regard to surveying, and why would it not be listed? I know a lot of the USGS disks arn't listed simply because they never made the effort go through the old paper files and regester them with the NGS, whould this be a similar reason? Also, has anyone found one that was listed? N 41 14.236 W 82 1.387 Beldon, Ohio set on a railroad bridge crossing SR 303
  10. NM, I resized the pic and uploaded via GC. But, I'm still wondering why a pic on Angelfire can't be posted.
  11. I just tried this and it said Sorry, dynamic pages in the tags are not allowed'. Any suggestions, the image is too big for the GC website (800k)
  12. I just drove home my brand new Yellow 2004 Jeep Wrangler and I can't log it?!? I hope to see this one return, maybe they can make an exception to the morituium (sp?) because this is so popular. I like the Yellow Jeep Redux idea! EDIT: added pic!
  13. Its got the stickers, but I'd certainly hope cachers would have enough respect not to peel the stickers!
  14. Has anyone tried using a rubiks cube as a clue for a cache? What I have in mind is the listed coord. take you to a cache with a scrambled rubik cube. Before it was scrambled, the loaction of the final location will be written one number in each square on the sides, north being on say the red side, west being on say white. To read the coord. correctly, the finder would have to solve the cube and put it into the GPSr. Has anything like this been tried before? Also, would it be best to list it as a multi or as a puzzle cache? Thanks for the input!
  15. And what would you have done if you bumped your GPS and it fell into the pipe??
  16. Only problem is, almost all of the new BM's Media County placed are not in the GC database, so you can't log them. Oh well... BTW, I've noticed several new ones being set in my county (Lorain, right next to Medina). None of them (at least not yet to my knowlege) have not been blue booked. I've counted 6 placed so far in 2003. Any one know if the have a web site similar to this one?
  17. I have done all my caches 'blind'. I simply loaded a slew of data poits into my GPSr, and when I'm in the area of one go and find it. With the exceptions of multi caches that have weird math problems (which I don't like in the first place) I can usually find most caches with out a problem. If I can't find a paticular one, I go back to the site at the end of the day, reread the page, then go hunting again. Having the print outs is like having a cheat sheet, at least in my opion. But, now that I bought my brand new $600 dollar PDA for 'school' (hehe)......
  18. I'm a deli clerk at a Giant Eagle in the Cleveland area. Also, more importantly, I'm a college student at Lorain County Comunity College. What's my major, darned if I know! I cache mostly on my days off, which are few and rare. Timing permitting I may go after class, but not too offen now a-days, especially with what time it gets dark now.
  19. I came across this station today http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.asp?PID=MB2938 Clearly, the surface disk has been destroyed. But, in the data sheet, it mentions a sub-surface disk. Most likely the sub-surface disk is still there, but with out digging it up there would be no way to know for sure. How would this one be marked up as? I marked it as destroyed, but I am rethinking it. Your thoughts? *edited typo
  20. Hello, I'm Jason and I'm a lurker as well. I usually don't check the forums that offen anyways, and when I do I don't feel the need to post. I just have little to say on most topics.
  21. Does anybody know of what the longest cache to stay in the wild unplundered is? How long was/has it been out in the field?
