  1. In the spring of 03 the Travel Chanel had the top ten treasure hunts and geocaching was around #5. When I got my RINO in October of 03 and was trying to figure out a way to learn how to use it I checked out the GC site and thought "this will be something to do for a couple of weeks until I learn how to use this thing." 2. I would love to! I have been holding on to the last one of the Mini Smiling Tennis Balls I made up last winter and was waiting for the perfect place for it and this soundl like a great cache for it. GEO.JOE
  3. A half used tube of chapstick and what I hope was pocket lent and not belly button lent .
  4. So far only one GPS unit that does not project waypoints, are there more? About half of the responses can only project to 1 decimal, which will place those individuals 106 ft too far. Are there any other limitations to projecting waypoints?
  5. That is about 159 ft from my projection. I'm not sure if it is worth the trouble. I have forgotten to state that I used True North.
  6. Both were using Magellans. It is nice to see how accurate Projected waypoints are. Yea, you should just tell them its a tree south of the parking lot.... And, the thing I forgot to ask in my last post, how are you getting two decimals for distance?? (I did 1.8mi but as you can tell even those two weren't that close together) Two decimals for distance is what The RINO gives. I would like to have it as accurate as feet. I noticed that both of you waypoints were 1.80 mi the Etrex was at 98 degree according to my mapping software and the gpsV was at 99 degrees. That adds a whole new dememtion of error. I thought that two decimals were too restrictive if many units only offer one decimal that could get a search area of about 150 ft X 260 ft. I better raise the difficulty!

  8. Do you have a GPS yet? If yes do you know how to use it? For local assistance you can check out the Midwest Forum.
  9. Thank you Wyatt for the suggestion. Everyone Please project a Waypoint from N37 05.882 W088 39.337 Project a waypoint at a bearing of 99 degrees at a distance of 1.82 miles. I got a waypoint of N37 05.635 W088 37.382 With a Garmin RINO 120 GEO.JOE
  10. I have set up a cache that requires projecting a waypoint. I have already had some cachers contacting me because they can not find a way to project a waypoint. I have explained how to plot the point using their map page, however, by plotting the the waypoint on the map it can create a search area of 150 ft X 50 ft. That is a lot of area. Are there many GPS units that can not project waypoints. Also does anyone know if a Magellan Map 330 will project a waypoint? Thanks GEO.JOE
  11. Thank you CompuCash. This tip will help out a lot. if I can not get it back to bringing pages up when I hit the back button. I am still confused why it has just stopped working for me. I have been using the sight since Oct, 03 and it has worked fine until the last 2 months.
  12. I use a modem, usually connected at 40.0 Kbps. I was getting the not available must reload error and being prompted to reload the page about 2 months ago. However, I am no longer receiving anything except the page cannot be displayed page.
  13. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0
  14. I am having a problem while looking though nearest cache pages. The first page of 20 cache loads and I return to it after viewing a cache. However, if I view a cache on the second or subsequent pages I can not return to the list of caches. I get a page that says: The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. Cannot find server or DNS Error Internet Explorer ________________________________ When I refresh I go to page 1 of nearest caches. I did not have a problem with this until a couple month ago. When it first started I could refresh and view the 2,3, etc cache list page now it goes back to the first page 1. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
  15. Call your local metal detector dealer. They would likely come out and search for free just to have the permission to hunt your yard. especially if you live in an area that has been established for along time or has any historical significance, i.e. battle field. GE.JOE
  16. KY, IL, TN, CO, UT, CA, & VA, Washington D.C. and MO if I count Meet with your Government Agents
  17. Xira Arien was the only name I saw in any of the logs. However, if he is leaving $2.50 cards in all caches he is trading better than I am. I have noticed while caching with nieces, nephew, family and friends Value of trade items is different for each person in a group. Game cards that my nephew has traded had special value to him because he played the game. I discussed the trade even concept and he assured me that anyone that played the game would want the cards he has to trade. My niece traded her last dollar to get a jingle bell necklace from a cache. Many items I use as trade items were not valuable $0.50 but are traded for quickly for their collector value, fun value or neat value.
  18. Please don't be upset, it isn't slaughter. It's what the DOT does with all the dead deer that have been hit by cars. We had an odor problem in CT a while back because they put too many in one place. They can't leave them in the road, it causes more accidents. They can't just put them in the land fill, or burn them so they take them to a spot where they can decompose naturally, and also feed birds of prey. An Audubon center near here takes some of the dead deer and stakes out parts to the ground for the eagles to come and eat where people can watch them through telescopes, from the deck on the building, without the eagles taking the "bait" away. You'll notice (or don't look at it again) that some of these deer appear to have broken necks, obviously from being hit by a car. So, I believe that is what we are looking at there. this tells about the deer picture.
  19. Don't Drink the Water is the furthest for me at 1558.06 miles. That seems close considering it was a 6000 mile round trip.
  20. Hide the cache and archive it when you leave. This way it will allow all the local cachers to find your cache then open the area for a new cache for the locals to find when your cache is archived. Happy Caching.
  21. If someone is dumb enough to leave $138.00 in a wall in a public park, then they are dumb enough to lose $138.00. Finders Keepers. If I was to leave money in a park I would expect it to be taken. Congratulations on you gook luck. You can always use part the money to do something nice for someone else so they can share in you good fortune then ask that they pay it forward. GEO.JOE
  22. Do a KEYWORD search under the hid & seek tab for OFF ROAD, Four Wheel and other related terms, then scan through the areas the caches are placed. The caches I am familiar with that are 4X4 accessible have no indication in the name and are not listed as 5's because an off road vehicle is not required. Your best bet may be to post in you region forum and request assistance from local cachers to compile a list of 4X4 accessible caches. Hope this helps. GEO.JOE
  23. The entire time I was reading this all that was going through my mind was "I like Bears"
  24. December 7, 2003 by GEO.JOE (69 found) This was an adventure! On the way into the cache we startled a hawk that had a cardinal pinned on the ground, this allowed the cardinal to escape and we were ten feet from the chase. As the two birds crashed through a cedar tree the hawk lost elevation and came within inches of GEO.JOE's head. This gave the cardinal just enough advantage that the chase lasted less than a minute longer before the hawk gave up. With hearts pumping we located the cache with little searching. While Fairy Flirt logged our adventure GEO.JOE found a tree about 40 feet east of the cache that is being used as a marking and scratch tree by a bobcat. This was the best cache ever. Contents were in great shape. We took noting but memories and left a Garmin poker chip and a daisy charm. Happy caching. GEO.JOE, Fairy Flirt and GEO.LOGO
