  1. With the MeriPlat you can project to less than one foot. How many decimal places is less than a foot? A difference of .001 is normally between 4.5 and 6 feet. First I enter.01 and hit the enter button. Now it changes to feet and you can edit that. 0.82 ft. was the lowest I was able to save it.... as if I really need to project a waypoint under my toes

  3. Here is an excerpt from my owners manual: Setting the Track Mode to “OFF” will cause severe limitations to the ability of your Meridian to create a backtrack route. The same temporary waypoints used to create the displayed track are used to compute a backtrack route. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you use the “Auto” Track Mode whenever possible. Auto vs. Auto Detailed. You will notice two of the options for the Track Mode are Auto (default) and Auto Detailed. Basically, both options behave the same. While your are travelling in a straight line, only a few track points are taken, but as you turn, the Meridian increases the rate of track points. This allows for a good representation of your track with minimal track points stored. Auto Detailed performs exactly the same as Auto, but has the base rate of track points saved increased. This allows a more detailed track then Auto to be taken, while at the same time saving memory over a fixed rate. The following is an overly simplified diagram of the three track rate options. In most cases, Auto should meet all of your requirements but if you want more detail on turns and still not clutter memory with excessive track points, select Auto Detailed. ================================================= I use auto detail myself. Hope this helps.

  5. Nope. I belong to the same club. I ride a Yamaha Warrior (my other passion). Therefore, I am the Warriorrider.
  6. Hey EraSeek, just curious, why true north and not magnetic north for your GPSr north reference
  7. Paper is north up. GPSr is track up. If I'm at a standstill I'll switch to magnetic heading up.
  8. You can try something like this too... http://www.jeeep.com/details/coord/
  9. I too have trouble with this. Sometimes it works ... sometimes it does not. Some pages do... some do not.
  10. As stated, it sounds like you are entering it in the wrong format. I don't know what software you are using but with my Mapsend I have to enter it like this... N 37:46.009, W 122:28.355 Hope this helps
  11. Don't forget the cost of that atv/motorcycle for those atv/motorcycle only cache trails.
  12. Holy Smokes Crackers... That's quite the setup!! Hey, where did you get that see thru case for your Meridian? I've never seen one.
  13. I know this is a silly question, but what is that little PM button at the bottom of everyones post? I was afraid to click on one for fear of doing something wrong to someones post.
  14. Right.... Menu Setup Map Datum Primary Wgs84 For the coordinate format.... Menu Setup Coord System Primary Lat/Lon DEG/MIN.MMM Hopefully this helps you. You can go through the same steps for your secondary, choosing secondary instead of primary. It's up to you what you want for that. I use Wgs 84, Min./Sec. Since this is also pretty popular. Good Luck
  15. I use a Camelbak Hawg and I love it. It will carry enough water for an all day hike plus all of the hiking essentials that I like to carry... flashlight, camera, sweatshirt or jacket for when the sun sets, food, cell phone, mini tripod, whistle, geo goodies, batteries, etc. etc. I carry more than I usually need but I would rather have and not need it rather than need it and not have it. Of course it depends on the type of hiking you do and what your needs are. My hikes are usually at least eight miles and I often do not get back to my truck until after dark.
  16. Hi all, I am pretty new to this and I did a recent cache hunt where the owner of the cache said to set the GPSr to a magnetic north in order to find his cache. It was a multi-cache. I always have my GPSr set this way. Am I wrong in using it this way? Should I be hunting for caches using true north? I use a Meridian Platinum and I haven't had any problems to speak of locating caches.
  17. http://www.jeeep.com/details/coord/ This is an easy to use converter if you do not want to change the setup on your GPSr.
