  1. Micros are getting out of control? Are they beginning to organize and plot against us, or are they just being a bit unruly? Hey; I came across this revolutionary new feature the other day; it's called a pocket query. I can even filter out micros!
  2. They are also in the middle of said web...about nose level! -We have incredibly large spiders in Okinawa. -Japanese policemen have no idea what Geocaching is. -Those bushes that look really painful? They are, and the cache is in the middle of them. -Japanese mosquitoes wait to attack until all of their friends have shown up to the party.
  3. Being in Okinawa, I look for the "snakes" attribute...That tells me that the cache is off the beaten path, and will typically be an interesting stroll through the jungle. Now if there was only a "spiders the size of a grown man's hand" attribute...
  4. I think the site is just slow lately...REALLY slow. I got my weekly PQ a day late, and still have not received my finds query...haven't received that in two weeks (yes; I added it to the queue).
  5. I have to, once again, agree with Crid. My Colorado does everything I "need" it to, and I have not had a single problem with it. Of course, as with any device that uses silicone o-rings, one must use a wee bit of care and some occasional preventive maintenance, but that's pretty much a no-brainer. I've used both the 60csx, and the Colorado, and noticed no difference in accuracy, not even in dense jungle canopy. The features on the Colorado make it my clear winner. Personal preference should be the only deciding factor. The "documented" issues of water leakage, after the same individuals admitted to pinching and ruining the o-rings, don't concern me a bit. If you're not looking to do paperless caching with a single device, were happy with your 60csx, and don't care about any new features, then you should probably stick with the 60csx, as you are already accustomed to its interface and features.

    help !

Hello Bruno, Just go to this link. Then click on "log visit" in the top right corner of the page. You can then log your visit to the cache. You can do this every time by just going to the main geocaching.com website, and entering the code for the cache in the blank (you'll see an example on the main page) and click "go." It will take you to that cache page.
  7. "But they just plain don't do some of the things they need to do for geocaching. "-- What things would those be, out of curiosity?
  8. I've been using various GPS units for years, and I feel that the Colorado is the best I've used yet. Were there some issues in the beginning, prior to the firmware updates? Yes, but not even with every unit. Did the updates fix the problems? Yep. I've not had a single problem with mine, and I love how much easier it is to manually enter waypoints than with the 60 series and Etrex series. Paperless caching is great, accuracy is great, signal strength is great...no complaints at all. You'll probably have to try one out to see for yourself, since personal preference has a lot to do with it. I would just ask that you be wary of those posts from people who have never used one (there's a few of them out there). Now...Any wagers as to how fast this thread will get moved to the correct category?
  9. I had this problem with my 60 and with my new Colorado, until I figured out the difference in the compass modes. If you are in "sight and go" mode, the pointer will not point to the cache (or the next waypoint), but will point to your intended "track," or the imaginary line between your starting point, and your waypoint/cache. In other words, it's designed to let you know if you're getting off course. Setting the default compass mode to "distance/bearing," fixed the problem for me. I'm not sure if that is, or isn't, the problem some of you are facing, but wanted to point it out. Hope it helps.
  10. LOL!!! tlbeers, from Okinawa, said the exact same thang to me at my event last night. Deja vu. I was also saying, "What a coincidnce," since I often browse the forums, see your posts, and have TLBeers in my friends list...small world.
  11. I noticed that as well. But hey; there's like 4 threads there! At least we have cacheoki to use here.
  12. Wow; so you're gonig to start vandalizing other people's caches because they don't match your personal tastes? I'm sure those people that DO enjoy hunting for those will really appreciate that (not to mention the cache owner). Think of people besides yourself much?
  13. There doesn't seem to be any such thing as a "local" reviewer here in my neck of the woods.
  14. It's not a catasrophe for me, since it's only occurring on profile pages, not cache listings for me. Also, and this may be important: it's only doing it on profiles that have stat listings from logicweave. The stock profiles display fine for me. IE6, Windows 2000 (NT), 1024x768 resolution. Works fine at home on FF and IE7.
  15. I went from an original Etrex, to a Map 60 (yes, just a 60), and then upgraded to the Colorado 400t. I absolutely love it, and haven't had a single problem with it. It performs flawlessly, and the interface simply took a little getting used to after becoming familiar with the 60's keypad. I haven't upgraded to 2.8 firmware, but still haven't had any problems with it. I really love it, and am quite pleased with the paperless caching feature. I like that I don't have to pull the batteries out to get to the memory card, and I enjoy how quickly it boots up (even with that huge map stored in there). I cannot say a single bad thing about the CSx, simply because I have never used one. They are, of course, the benchmark of sorts, and I've never heard a bad comment about them. I just prefer the interface of the Colorado over the 60's keypad, and only having to carry one device (vice a palm).
  16. Here on Okinawa, we have urban, and we have rural. Our rural caches are in jungle, and often mountainous terrain. I enjoy both, if they've got a real point of interest nearby. Isn't that part of the reason to hide a cache somewhere? If I had to make a choice, I'd pick rural though...
  17. Perhaps. It certainly seems to have drifted that way, with folks claiming "rights" that don't exist. That's the dangerous mindset that seems to be rearing its ugly head more and more these days. We are NOT dependent upon the government to grant us rights (nor the Constitution; it merely spells out a few of the basic ones). Our rights are inherent, not token bread crumbs tossed to us by a stuffed suit.
  18. I've used GPS units for more than just Geocaching for years now. I had a 60 series, and recently upgraded to a Colorado. I absolutely love it. Paperless caching without third party software and other pieces of hardware, great features, one handed operation, and the "brightness" of the display has not been an issue for me. If I wanted to mount it on a bicycle, I suppose the display COULD be an issue, but that's moot for me. Cards, maps, they all work great on my 400t. I haven't used an Oregon, so I can't comment. The latest software release for the Co 400t seems to have fixed any issues with it (and it's a breeze to update). Just my .0001 cents' worth; but it's probably a matter of personal preference. I'll readily admit that the 60csx is a hall of famer compared to a rookie hotshot...It is quite proven, and nobody has any complaints about it.
  19. The OP makes a lot of sense for those that need it. For the next couple of years, I'm confined to a small island that only has around 300 caches...PQs are a breeze that way. If I travel, that would certainly change! Seems like we should be able to put in a request for a temp waiver when we need it...there's that nifty "demonstrated need" again.
  20. Many thanks! I wish the owner's manual that came with it included all of this nifty information.
  21. Yeah, but Greece is so much, um, Greece-ier. On a seriuos note, I agree wholeheartedly. Many of us here on Okinawa travel to other parts of Asia on a regular basis, and it would be nice to be able to network with other cachers in Asia...Hmmm; sounds like a "demonstrated need."
  22. Ahhh, got it. What does the "on road for distance" and "on road for time" options do? Does that make it automatically switch to off road at a certain time, or distance from the cache/waypoint?
  23. I just got my 400t yesterday, and I can't seem to get it to do turn by turn navigation. My old map 60 would ask me to select either "on road," or "off road" when I used the "go to" function. My Colorado, despite loading the exact same maps, doesn't give me that option, and I can't find it in any of the menus or options. Any ideas?
