  1. I too would like to see a "Mini" category, as I have access to some cans that are approx 4" square... Too big to be a micro, as you can get a good deal of stuff into it, but too small to be a micro. There are a lot of nice water tight containers that would fall into this category. Ohgr
  2. SWATCH group (Watches) has been pushing for this to become a standard for a long time. You can see more info, and a .pdf file on it here: Swatch Internet Time Hope this helps. Ohgr
  3. I remember back when they used to have these machines that sold astronomy charts with fortunes etc on them. They were sold in tubes about 3" long and as big around as a pen. The sheet was rolled up inside, and when you unrolled it, the thing was like 4' long. SO if they can fit 4' of paper in a little tube, you should be able to fit some type of log an just about any size of container. Ohgr
  4. I don't think small amounts of money are really all that bad, 2 dollar bills and silver dollars are great fun for kids to find, as you don't really see them all that often. Even the new gold dollars, kids love them. After all, money is "Treasured" more than just about anything. As for me, I'd love to see a new $50 bill in a cache, but I can't guarantee that I'd be able to trade up.. Ohgr
  5. I don't know how much or IF the different units differ, but on my eTrex Legend: Main Menu, Setup, System, Then on the little page icon next to the X, go to Software Version. Hope that helps. Ohgr
  6. Thanks guys for all your answers and explanations.. And for Re-Disabling the dead cache. Live and Learn.. Ohgr
  7. We just put together a cache that included a small wooden box that was full of little letter beads, and a bunch of Pre-Cut strings, and labeled it the "Make Your Own Name Bracelet Box" I don't know how big your Micro is, but the beads are small and you could probably fit 150 or so in an Altoids tin. In the sporting goods dept of any store there are a bunch of little gadgets and trinkets that any hiker/cacher would love to find in a cache. Large bills $$ will fold really small, If you go this route Email me with the coordinates as soon as you place it so I can be FTF. Foreign coins, Weird Stamps, Small homemade sig items. etc etc.... Good Luck Ohgr
  8. I recently searched for a cache Seventeen Palms Oasis Cache The cache has been burned off the face of the earth, I logged it as a DNF, it was subsequently disabled. Today I noticed that it was off the disabled list. But in the description there was no mention of it being replaced and the original description has not changed. Description says cache was in a log on the ground, There is no more log on the ground, Just ashes. Tried to contact the cache owner, but my email just bounced back to me. In these cases who should you contact, your local cache reviewer? Just add a note to the cache page asking if it has really been enabled and hope the owner sees it? Just a thought, shouldn't there be some kind of button like: Click here to send a note to the reviewer responsible for caches in this area. So that people will know who their local reviewer even is. I know who mine is, but only because I recently placed a cache. Thanks for any help, Ohgr
  9. My father has been recommending the MaHa batteries to me also.. He uses them in his digital cameras and says they're the best. And he does his research before buying ANYTHING.... Ohgr
  10. We're just getting started, but I knew before we did that I wouldn't be content with someone else telling me which way to go. And neither would she.. So when I bought my GPS I bought my girlfriend one at the same time. Sometimes she dosn't bring hers, but most of the time she has it with her. A friend was asking about it at lunch the other day, and to my surprise she pulled it out of her purse and exclamed, "I always have it with me!" Ohgr
  11. For homemade coins (wooden Nickels) you can use wooden dowels sliced thinly, and then brand them, It looks nicer than stamped ones, but the brands are very expensive. I've found some here. http://www.brandish.com/ you could buy a GPS for the price of a brand. Or you can go the cheap route and use rubber stamps on the dowel, or a soldering iron with a very fine tip and burn them by hand. I just made up some mini CD-roms that have some recent fire pictures, and a large aerial photo of the area around where I've found the cache. Printed a cover and presto, custom goodies. Ohgr
  12. One of the biggest problems kids face today is (1) They don't get enough outside time. and (2) They either don't have a father, or they have a father that is too buisy to do anything with them. For you to be able to have time to spend with your son, and for you to have a hobby that involves getting out of the house and seeing the world, and experiencing something that does not have to be plugged in says alot about you. For anyone to try and keep your kid or you for that matter locked up in the house is just wrong. Kids need to be outside. Grownups need to be outside. My girlfriend thought that geocaching was kinda weird, Until we looked for our first one without a GPS and actually found the cache. On the way back she offered to buy me a GPS so "WE" could find more of them. We've only found 4 of them so far, but every time we go out, we have more fun than the last time. If there is a fear of the kid getting hurt while on the trail, you might want to take along some sort of non-lethal weapon with you to ease your wifes fears, like a heavy walking stick, or maybe some pepper spray. That way at least you're a little more prepared to take on the occasional stray dog you might meet on the trail. I think (like many others here seem to think), that there has got to be more to this than just caching, something else has got to be going on with her (The Wife). Go spend $1500 on some golf clubs so you can have a normal hobbie and see what she has to say about that..!! Go drop a couple grand on some rare stamps, after that she'll be more than happy to let you rummage through other peoples "Trash". Take care my friend, and good luck.. Ohgr
  13. I would have to ask myself, Is it that important to have a cache in a location known for illegal activity, which could put other cachers in harms way. Making a note of dangers in a caches description is all fine and dandy. But how many people are really going to want to hunt a cache that has a description of. Caution: Men are known to have illegal contact with each other in the area, and may proposition you for said contact. Write letters, go to city council meetings, call the police often. Then when all is clear, place the cache. Just my thoughts. Good Luck, And BE CAREFUL..
  14. Niterider lights are the best in my book, I run the dual beam version mounted on my mountain bike, and they use them at all of the major 24hr mountain bike races. The Head mounted versions have burn times adjustable from 3-1/2 hrs to 12 hrs Digital Extreme Sport Extreme Neither is real cheap, but they really light up the trail. I don't work for them or anything, I've used other lights and found the quality of these it top notch. OHGR
  15. It's been pretty bad out here, we were evacuated saturday afternoon, flames go to within 80yds of the house. Back home now that the fires seem to have passed by. Now that they're gone, some ___holes have seen fit to go and set one of the only hills left un-burned on fire... The fire was put out, and the two holes are in custody.. Relatives lost their home, but everyone survived. to say that it's been a little frantic is an understatement.
  16. I would like to start out by saying that I know TimasaurusRex, I will vouch for his being a good guy. The LOSERS!, and MORE LOSERS! threads were not started by him. I cannot say more but his account was hijacked by someone he knows. (Not Me) I have mailed him and I'm sure he will be just as surprised as I was when I read the posts. Thanks in advance for your understanding. OHGR
  17. A few of the Northern San Bernardino, CA. caches I believe have been burned. zip 92407 I saw the fire running thru these two. Seventeen Palms Oasis Cache "The Devil's Canyon Cache" I was going to hit these two this weekend, but fire and evacuation kinda turns your mind in another direction. I just drove by: Around the Block Cache It's still OK, but please stay away for a bit unless you live here, there are far too many sightseers already. Never leave a rock unturned Cache I think is fine. The Cappuccino Cache I believe is ok also. But don't take my word on this one.
