  1. I make walking sticks not only for FTf's, but I also leave them as my sig item at caches where they can be hidden nearby. I make special cards that I leave in the cache directing the next finder the the stick. I also leave one at each of my hides in the Spring when I do maintenance. Each one has a frog and a number burned into them so I can keep track of who has them. So far, I've given out 58 sticks, some as far away as Virginia Beach.
  2. I make hiking sticks with a frog and a number burned into them so I can track them. I hide them away from caches I find and leave a special card for the next cachers to find them.(there's not always a place near the cache). So far I've given out 42 sticks, each complete with rubber tip and rawhide wristband, finished in 5 coats of urethane. Tried to send a pic--hope it goes through.
  3. No Way! If you're not there, don't count it. This sport/ game was ment to bring "individuals" to a specific place. Be it for a nice view or whatever, but they ALL should personally sign the log. It's the way of the originators. I would really hate to see this become "find by internet" or phone. I spend many, many hours designing special containers just to excite finders. Bottom line-- if you can't or don't want to actually find it--don't log it as such.
  4. I change out everything in the Spring when I do annual maintenance. Caches WILL always turn into junk. I personally create special containers that cachers love, but their contents still deteriorate in our short caching season. So, for me, I get pleasure from them finding the container, more than the contents.
  5. Alright Rusty!! Might have happened a little sooner with a "special stick". Just kidding. I've got your's all ready with your initials on it and everything. I numbered it 029& 1/2. Let me know if you are going to be in this area, or I would be glad to mail it to you . Just give me an address. We really loved the ongoing saga about stick 029 from "Hello Molley". Keep on caching, Lafrog
  6. I have a three stage cache"Strange Beehavin", that I would like to make into two seperate caches, the new one being at the old "first stage". The original Cache would then start from the second stage, where there is ample parking. This would add a cache to the area, and eliminate the need to cross the railroad. What are the steps needed to get this done. Thank you, Lafrog
  7. Thanks everyone. Little slow but figured it out, finally.
  8. Thanks. I checked both sites , but couldn't seem to get what I'm looking for. I'm trying to get coords to 18 Ocean Park Road--Saco , Maine--04072
  9. Is there a way to get coords to a specific address, like a friend or relative in another state? Is there a link for this?
  10. I placed a four stage cache called "Toadilly Silly" on a local trail which takes you past your car three times and then ends right near it. Finders have said the final container makes it worthwhile.
  11. five and a half hours and 3 trips to "Invigoration", without a find---YET. I shall return!!!
  12. I have "bug only" caches. They are disabled after bug season. It's just the way Mother Nature works up here.
  13. A while back, someone pointed me to a page that I could print that explained our sport in great detail. Once printed, it could be folded into a pamphlet. Now I can't find that page again. Can you help please?

    New Store Item

I like the ideas. Especially with all the pockets.
  15. I've learned in my short stint here to think like a hider while being a finder.
  16. Can I use one of my existing caches as the first stage of a new multi cache that I have in mind? Is it a problem because the coords are the same for both? Can this work?
  17. I laminate all my tags and things with plain old (new) clear packaging tape. Use the widest you can get, 2 inch works well. Lay strips down, sticky side up- place your tag or what ever on that and the tape over them again. Voila!, just trim to size and you have it . Waterproof and dirt cheap. Lafrog
  18. I get a catalog called 'Improvements' that has small 'hide-a-key' stones in different shapes for sale. They also carry fake rocks that could hide anything from an ammo box to a five gallon bucket. Go to www.Improvements Catalog.com I made a fake rock big enough to hide an ammo box for my first cache, "The Heart of Stone Cache. Although ,not difficult, it took a little time, but this way I could personalize it.
  19. Hmmm, only $20 in cache items. Maybe a little over-dressed
  20. What about those that purposely hide slightly away from the posted coords? Wouldn't that be a spoiler to add more accurate coords?
  21. I worked summers for a surveyor years ago. Those marks you saw could have been from the plumb-bob older surveyors used to center their instruments over the benchmark. they needed to get it real close and sometimes the heavy'bobs' would slip and drop , creating what youy saw in the soft metal marker. Hope this helps answer your question. Lafrog
