I recently noticed that cachers are logging "challenges". They appear separately from the caches found as a different category. Where would we find these challenges so we could attempt them. As of now I look up the cachers name and check his/her stats. Must be an easier way.

I own a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSX and was wondering how would I project a waypoint that is 1 KM due west from any given location? How many degrees would I punch in?

While geocaching recently, I was somewhat reluctant sticking my hand into the rock crevices in front of me. I was wondering what type of glove to use that would protect from cuts, abrasions, etc. But also maintaining finger dexterity! The fear of needles also comes into play.

How does this work? Don't you need a waypoint to "find"? I think he meant " hold on to the mark button ", when having entered the woods. The mark spot won't show the car but hopefully the mark position isn't too far off from it! At least I hope that's what he meant, Wanda!

Thanks for responding Wanda. I of course knew about the "mark" button but was wondering if in a bind, was there another way out of a bad situation. I will definitely take your suggestion and walk around the neighbourhood and try to get familiar with the trackback option.

Parked my car next to the woods before setting out for a cache. Forgot to mark my car as a waypoint! Proceeded to enter the woods, but found it to be further in than I thought. After 15 minutes I arrived at the cache site, and spent another 15 minutes looking for the cache. After finding the cache it was time to return to the car. Which way? Lost! Finally got out, but my question is "How could I have used the 'track' option to find my way back to the car"? Without marking what is the best way to use the track option? Have read the manual but still unclear of the concept.

I own a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx, and am wondering if I need to update my unit's software. Without actually downloading the update, is there a way of verifying the version that is presently on my gps?

Iwent to the Garmin site to see if there were any upgrades for my GPS map60csx. There indeed seems to be one which came out in April 2009. I am to use their webupdater program and follow the prompts. But it also said the following. "If the software upload fails, and subsequent upload attempts prove unsuccessful, the unit may need to be returned to Garmin for service." Since I'm not experiencing any problems with my Garmin I decided not to take the chance. Has anyone taken the plunge and if so was the ride a smooth one.

Will they all be found in the same window (found) or identified in separate windows (inventory)? Inventory is only what you have grabbed or retrieved, and have not yet placed in a cache or had grabbed from you. Any trackable you grab, discover or retrieve will show in your trackables history. What's the difference between retrieved, grabbed, and discovered? The subtlety,I'm sure is small, cause I end up with the travelbug in the end, no matter what!

I would like to know if it is considered ok to return to a cache that you have already found, in order to retrieve a geocoin or travel bug that has been dropped off. what is the proper etiquette in this situation. i have noticed geocoins dropped in cache's that I have already logged, and am tempted to go after them, knowing full well where they are exactly.

Is this working for anyone else? I can pick my manufacturer "Garmin" but the device list does not populate - the little spinning gif keeps a spinning though. That is still in the process of being updated. It should start working soon. working for me,just upgraded
