  5. Its a new month and no answers so I'lll take a stab (its late - or early) so here goes :- The good general was arrested for the illicit love affair he was having with his pet goat Bokkie, The interesting part was that when the local constabulary came to arrest him he was found In flagrante delicto. The general was cuffed and carted away on the back of an ox wagon. Bokkie suffered a much more unfortunate fate. Her throat was slit and she was turned into, according the the commandant, "the most agreeable biltong". His wife was equally pleased with her nice new warm pair of sippers and matching handbag. To this day the general and his goat are fondly remembered in the colloquial saying of disapproval - "Dit's uit soos boknaai!" (ha ha no dadgum here!!! or is that on another forum?!) I'll ask my question in advance What was the commandants name? Trev
  6. Another happy customer - now I just have to get you to dump windows for Linux! Just to put my linux where my mouth is I will happily provide a copy of any of the last three versions of ubuntu and the latest linuxmint and debian to anyone who wants them - I'll burn the cd/dvd you just need to collect! Or just download! Just to explain - Ubuntu is derived from Debian., Linuxmint is based on Ubuntu but with all the nice stuff like mp3 and video codecs built-in! That probably measn nothing to most of you but out of the three Linuxmint is likley to work the best with the least effort! I am happily using writearea in FF6 and never had to do anything - at each upgrade it checks and updates the plugins Writearea is version 1.0.0 last update 20/1/2011 I too have seen broken cache descriptions on my Nuvi 200 but I suspect strongly it is the filthy HTML that Word produces that is causing those issues! 7. Some good comments. I usually wait a while to give FTF the chance to log first. I whole heartedly agree with the travel bugs - I hate it when someone grabs it before I have logged it in - some times I grab it back and place it int eh cache and let them figure out what to do - ie retrieve it from the cache - I try carefully not to be rude of leave snide comments! Sometimes if I get a FTF late at might or 2am for example, I also hold of logging it as it does give other cachers the incentive to g and get it - good example Edkins mapping cache - I did not think I would be in time for and FTF but I went to do it with urgency because it had not been logged yet. When I found it I was about the 4th! If I had seen the logs I would not have gone when I did and so I might still not have done it! SO I don't mind that. But it the cache is already old (6 hours plus) and there was plenty of time to find it in "normal" hours I appreciate a prompt log so that I do not kill myself to try for and FTF if I have seen the notification late. So it is highly dependant on the situation. I still think I would not log a 2am FTF the moment I got home - but it depends on how I feel at the time I suppose. I agree it is also good form to mention that you were not the FTF if you are logging first. Just enjoy! Trev
  8. How about a making of video? I'd be interested to see how you do it? Trev
  9. There is no such thin Hesmati - word sucks at html and always will. Use writearea -its a firefox plugin (if you are not a firefox user here is a reason to become one!) https://addons.mozil...don/write-area/ This lets you edit in html on the text box on the cache page - shoudl be more than good enough for cache listings. 10. dadgum! All this talk of peanut butter is making me crave some right now!
  11. Yes I am definitely interested - will have time to do some training! If there is still a place I'll take one. Trev
  12. Thanks According to the calendar I checked the sunset is 18h00 I have created the event and it is in the review queue! Look out for GC32P9N, Lunacy, Lycanthropy and Licentiousness soon! Trev
  13. Could have been a pets remains - I have an urn just like that (little smaller) on my mantelpiece - I have seen my mother's, grandfathers and grandmothers remains come back in a horrible cardboard box. Gizmos ashes came back in nice urn - go figure. I once found a bong while doing a cache! Trev
  14. Sounds like it could be fun... and just enough time to make it an event as well, if you are feeling so inclined. Then we can also get a REAL smiley too Making it an Event sounds like a brilliant plan... Then even the Non-Forum-Readers will get to know about it... The more the merrier.... Ok An event it shall be then - I'll just have to get some more info of the exact moon rise times - becasue the earlier we cn do it the better - also safety first - there have been a number of muggings so we will need to meet at the car park and leave as a group. 15. I have created a challenge and looged one too - experience pretty lame in my opinion. The challenge shoudl state who put it up. On my profile page I can see that I am the one that posted a challenge bu no one else can. I presume a challenger does receive a notification of challenge acceptances and completions. On your stats page it says found/completed - so it would be nice if it gave you the split - then it would be cool as you could see a persons real caches compared to these lame challenges. Having said that some of the challenges the local boys/girls have put out seem quite interesting and fun - think specifically of the Moses Madbida one in Durban. The search facility is pretty crap - I put in South Africa and it can;t find any near South Africa!!!!! Surely it should be able to return some sort of list. I also flagged a few caches as unplayable by mistake - I searched for Johannesberg instead of Johannesburg and got 5 German caches which I thought were spam challenges - did not notice the actual coordinates were in the North until too late!!! I can;t see a way to unflag the cache and take back my report. I guess they will look at location and discount count my flagging as irrelevant. This is not going to get me out of bed early to try and be the first to find so to speak - I did make an effort to complete one and be the first but I see I was beaten by someones in Jhb. Like the famous TP thread - ignore if its not your cup of tea but this will surely bring joy and hours of entertainment to some - even if not in the way Groundspeak intended!!!!! Let the good times roll. So who is up for a moonlight stroll up Lions Head on 12 September - the next full moon! Trev
  16. Yes this is so far from a Virtual Cache that I can't undestand why GS said they were bringing back Virtuals when clearly they weren't Two biggest disappointments - no real proof needed and since no one owns a challenge (you can;t even see who issued the challenge) there would be no opportunity for a CO to delete false logs Also absolutely no moderation can only lead to tears and heartache and polarization for all - just wait - this will not last long in its current format is my prediction. Having said that I am going to be going for the "honour" of completing SA's first challenge at Newlands Spring. I shall complete this challenge within 90 minutes from now - hopefully the first is SA! I might complete Follow Your Nose in Obs too! Its not a sure thing as you have to find Colin first! Trev
  17. As The Eaves has stated - if you don't care about this it won't affect you one way or the other. You have twenty votes - you can use up to three votes for a suggestion. Use some of your votes if you have some left. If you need them later for something more important to you, you can claim them back. I suspect most people don't even know or care much about the twenty votes - much like the fave points. Go on vote for this - i think this should be the link http://feedback.geoc...log-in-pocket-q trev added: my three votes pushed the ranking up from 1224 to 809 - your vote could make a difference!
  18. What happened? Did you park in a ditch again? Trev
  19. I, for one, welcome our new power trail cache placing overlords. All your cache are belong to us. I _am_ a false cacher. That is all.
  20. As the message tries to tell you your assigned dynamic IP address (your unique identifier on the net) has been rejected by the Groundspeak server. I have similarly been blocked from site and the only way to really get action is to email the site admins in this case Groundspeak. Perhaps the range of IP numbers your ISP uses has been blocked because of abuse. Here's what you can do to help GS help you. browse to checkmyip.com - the cute girl will be pointing at your IP number. Copy this and paste it into an email to GS asking if there is any reason why your IP number has been blocked. If you believe it has to do with kaspersky just temporarily disable it and try again. Also check that you are not using some or other proxy which could be on a blocking list. Its browser/os dependant where you check this but google will help you. If you are using a proxy try connecting directly without using the proxy. Try a different browser. Hope some of these suggestions will help you Trev
  21. I've seen your wife drive that thing into a ditch - and we got you out so I am sure it will be just fine! Trev
  22. Is that not a griffin/griffon/gryphon ? A Chimera is part human part animal I think. Trev
  23. MMM had a reply from Matroosberg and I am deciding that discretion is thebetter part of vaour andwill not be attempting to ride up to the top - not now anyway. I might come through to cherry cache and see if there is a place in a 4x4. If I am there I am there. Have fun all. Trev
  24. Well I just called them and they did not seem to think there were any issues - the lady just said 4x4 in low range and bikes are fine. She did say the 4x2 trail ended more than 1km from the top and was like a two hike to get to the top. She said the drive was about 1.5 hours. So I am thinking I will meet the group at The cherry cache on my trusty steed and give it a go - if it is beyond my capabilities (the bike will be fine its me I am worried about!) I can park the bike and hopefully get a lift up. She said there is only a little snow left after the last snowfall on June 20 and all the hot weather we have been having. She told me it woudl be R200 for the bike and R50 for me. I am not sure whether a car attracts a higher fee but it is R50 per person plus vehicle fee. I am very likely to go but will confirm this so we all know who is coming or not. Any other bikers? Trev
  25. Well I have emailed them to ask and also to ask about a bike. Anyone know if they allow bikes? And if so how challenging is that last 1km? Trev
