  1. Thanks - at last!!!! I made and educated guess! Now I can appreciate how people get answers right and how difficult that question would have been for anyone not near the area. Now coming up with a question is just as difficult. Here goes? Who was the First astronomer at the Royal Observatory in what is now Observatory Cape Town and when did he commence and finish duty (years only)? In the 1970s, the Republic Observatory in Johannesburg and the Radcliffe Observatory in Pretoria were merged with the much older Royal Observatory to form the South African Astronomical Observatory as it is today. I have lived in Obs for 12 years and made my first visit to Open Night last week. Well worth it and you get to look through the Victorian Maclean telescope! In the year of Astronomy the Observatory have open night with and interesting lecture every second Saturday. See http://www.saao.ac.za/home/ for details. But don't look for the anser there!!! Sorry Tom - no COBOL here!
  2. Apologies for the google slip _ i have just been unable to answer a single question!!!! I just wanted the chance to be a winner by default! I also did think it was fairly safe to post in ROT13 as there is not evenand automatic ROT13 decoder on these forums (that I am aware of) It would have been as easy to google the answer as to decode it. Any way won't happen again - I'll just have to wait for a question I know the answer to - or add some educated guesses and hope for the best.
  3. Tough one and in the spirit of the game I must admit I googled this one so I am providing my answer in ROT13 to avoid spoiling for anyone who can actually answer that question. I think I read that googling is not allowed although how some of these questions have been answered without google is beyond me - although if you know the answer to something it seems easy and if you do not it seems impossible. If no one can admit to getting this correct without google I'll take the honours else I will stand down to your really excellent trivia and general knowledge. 4. mmmm.... is the team stumped - are we going to be pout out of our misery soon?
  5. Thanks DamhuisClan for acting on my suggestion! That took care unfound caches very nicely! Is it possible to list "stuck" travel bugs? Keep the stats flowing! Trev
  6. On finding The Sentinal with CapeDoc and the pooks, we found it had not been found in over 2 years which got us thinking - it would be wuite nice to have a list of the top ten or twenty active - caches per province that have not been found for the longest time Also perhaps identifying caches with trackables that have not been found for more than 3 months or so.. Thanks for the stats and keep them coming - maybe I will start playing arround once I have set up those PQs
  7. Mmmmm....interesting thread! I was going through some of my DNFs the other day and I visited the cache page of one. On reading the logs I see the owner had encouraged people to take a pic of themselves or their GPS near the cache site and then log as a find. I thought woohoo. I'll log the find now! I had previously logged a DNF and even got stung by an angry bee guarding the hiding place! Lucky the rest of his friends did not get me! I logged and sent a note to the owner in good faith saying I was going to claim a find now that they had changed the logging requirements. Well the cache was disabled 3 days later by Fish Eagle citing "virtual logging with a photo is not permitted" So I will go and delete that log immediately - i just feel wrong about it now - but hey that's me - seems similar to a lot of you guys as well! trev
  8. Well blow me down if it is not working now! I logged in to a machine at work via RDP and used firefox and Internet explorer and it would not send email. Then I loaded my Vmware Windows XP Guest from my Linux host and use Firefox and it worked!!!!!!! I then used firefox from my usual Linux and it worked. So case closed - except for why did it break and then fix itself. Thanks for the help Trev
  9. Thanks for the two replies - I kinda expected that I should get a confirmation that the email was sent - or alternatively an error message - I get neither - as I mentioned it hust clears the message i have written. Could it be a Firefox/Linux Issue - I will try from Windows PC and see what happens Thanks Trev
  10. I am sure I used to be able to send messages and just today I received one from another user (from noreply@geocaching.com) Say I am on someone's profile page and they have elected to not have their email public. I click on the send message link and then it opens the webform where I could type my 5000 word message. I type my message and I check both I want to send my email address along with this message. Email me a copy of this message. And then I press send. I do not get any confirmation it just takes me back to a blank message form. I certainly do not get a copy of the email and I have never heard back from the intended receipients including my brother who would have definitely replied had he got the message. It should be noted I am using Ubuntu 7.10 and Firefox 2.0.0.21pre - Could this be the problem? - surely not! Everything else works fine for me and I have sent messages in the past - of this I am fairly certain. Any advice? Thanks Trev
  11. Yes congratulations The Far-Jar-Hug clan introduced me to geocaching. Trev
