  1. I answered it up above... Am I on the naughty list now?
  2. Unless it's an integral part of a puzzle cache, please don't do it - it takes a while to load, is bad at work, and generally looked on as annoying. Sorry, I think that's the majority viewpoint. Still, google is your friend: Embed It
  3. Hey, I've got a car stuck off-road on the way to a cache, and had my car towed while searching for another cache - both times were a little traumatic, maybe I should go and log them as finds (Waaahhh). /Actually I still got FTF on one of them (Yay me)
  4. Note: Acetone will eat Nalgene bottles........
  5. Here is a link to the cache. Brookside Unburied Treasure The only problem is that it doesn't alert future finders or the cache owner of a problem, unless they take the time to read the log (I know...) Personally, and feel free to differ, I would log it as a DNF - in fact anytime I feel a little dodgy about it, I would DNF (look at me, goody two shoes )
  6. My mother may be interested - $110 or so?? plus shipping?
  7. I've always wanted to see another link on My Cache Page that shows all of the caches that you have posted DNFs on, and never a subsequent found. i.e. in the top right of the linked page: List caches you own, have found, or did not find. Once in a while I like to see what success others have had, which I still need to go and find, and to see just for interest. This page is not what I want, because it shows all DNF logs, not caches that you still have not found. I would also like to see the other cache information (last found date, status, etc)
  8. Just to clarify, while the yellow model does not come with a cable as standard, you can buy one, and hook it up to the unit.
  9. From the same cache: One of these cachers (with lots of finds) features elsewhere in this thread... Hey, whatever floats your boat, but these "finds" are not useful for the hider or future seekers of the cache.
  10. Valid point for the PQs, but it would be great to see these on a zoomed out map, where identification of precise cache location would be near impossible. Anyway, I look forward to doing some of them when I'm back that way (weather in December/January time??) AJK
  11. I'll be back in Nashville, probably this year - does anyone have a PQ of this list? Also, does anyone have these on a map?? Thanks, AJK
  12. Been there once Bug Juice of the Mossy Field (linky) was fun - outside of Nashville a little ways
  13. For the excel way of doing this, you really have to switch to a different coordinate system, rather than lat long. In the U.S. we switch to UTM, UK would be the OS grid I assume. In some cases, the PC mapping method may be more accurate - especially if the hider used the same method. With equations, you may not find an exact solution. However, I have a workbook that I use that seems to work most of the time. You can (just about) do this with one GPSr, depending on the model. On my Legend, I can go to the nearest waypoints screen, and as I scroll through the waypoints, it shows the distance from the current spot. I've never tried doing this though - I'll stick with maths.
  14. Somone over in the garage sale forum is selling an etrex for $50......
  15. Hey tubemonkey, Let's just see what they do send us, who knows? As discussed, if they send the wrong thing, it's no problem for me. It will be going back. Chances are it will be just the Legend, BUT, I will take the chance that it isn't.
  16. Good luck - I have not heard anything yet about my order.
  17. I've always thought that it should work like that.
  18. I'll wait until they either send the right or wrong one, or email me. If they send me the wrong one, I'll be getting my shipping charges back, no need to worry about that.
  19. There's a couple of nice ones on Fort Myers Beach, Sannibel, and Love Key, but I don't know their status after the hurricanes. Use "the key to love" as a guide.

    Logging Dnf's

Always, always log your DNFs. Period. No ifs, buts, or maybes. For all the reasons given above. DNFs are usually a much better read as well. There was one puzzle cache locally that I posted 3 DNFs on. When I finally found it, it was all the more rewarding.
  21. Just in case anyone needs a reminder, check the weather, pack suitable gear - it's that time of year when a 60 degree day can turn rapidely into your worst nightmare: CNN
  22. Up here in Red Sox Nation (!) g-o-cashers has over 100 FTFs, and has been a member since May 2003 (600 odd finds). I have about 5 - not so impressive
