  1. Right now the application will only allow you to log found or not found. Your request above is on the list of features we are considering adding. What you will need to do for today is to make sure your phone is associated with a geocaching.com account. You will find all the information you need at the link below. From this link you can associate a phone and record field notes. http://www.geocaching.com/my/fieldnotes.aspx Larry (Trimble Outdoors) Thx again Larry! I've been in Dana Pt on our boat all wknd so I haven't been near a computer since Friday. I'll try that today. More silly questions, I have Trimble Outdoors, not GN, so what do I do now? Trimble Outdoors (the application) is a general purpose navigating tool much like your standard GPSR. There is no cache logging feature in this particular product. If you are focused on Geocaching, GN is the right product. Larry Guess I know my next move then LOL Thanks again Larry!

  4. hhhmmm maybe I should have gotten GN instead. Sounds great, glad its working for you!
  5. We are available on GPS enabled 8xxx series Blackberry devices with AT&T. Currently AT&T does not have a traditional handset lineup that has GPS built in - yet. Larry (Trimble Outdoors) I have the Blackberry Curve thru AT&T but I don't have the online GPS turned on. 1) Does trimble work with AT&T now? 2) Will I need to sign up for the full blown GPS premium nav pkg? A lot depends on which model you have. The 8300 curve does not have GPS built in. The only way to make that work would be with an external bluetooth device. The 8310 curve does have built in GPS (it happens to be the device I carry). The 8310 requires nothing to turn the GPS on. All of our software can be purchased from Handmark or via demo from www.trimbleoutdoors.rim. It is pretty easy to figure out what model you have - on your BB go to options, then select about. The model number will be the first line. If you have an 8310 you can go to advanced options then GPS to verify it is turned on. Larry (Trimble Outdoors) I do have the 8310, and I think the GPS is active, at least the last option you mentioned says GPS is Device GPS. I took a stab at identifying the BB earlier when I went to the trimble site. Thx for answering so quickly. I am still deciding what I'm going to do now. Hopefully this doesn't come out promotional but here is my suggestion. Go to the website and download the free trial. Currently it is good for 60 days. Obviously I am a bit biased as I really enjoy using our product. Give it a try and share your thoughts. My personality is more spontaneous so the instant gratification of going caching any time I want is kind of handy. Larry (Trimble Outdoors) I am still thinking about that, and NO it doesn't sound promotional hehehehe. I have to figure out how to hook up the BB to either the home Mac or work PC, or maybe both since I geocache both places. I'd like to be able to cache on the fly. uh Larry, I can't seem to locate anything on Trimble resembling a free trial download, but I am a natural blond can you point me in the right direction perhaps? On the web Rim Downloads Page On your device BB Download Page more bad news, now that I have the trimble outdoors software, I can't get the info to got from computer to my phone, and I don't see a manual for the 8310 Curve you all must be just soooo tired of me by now. back to trimbleoutdoors.com w/me again

  8. turns out I was in the right place, as I thought for the 1st *missing* cache. and it's a log only cache so I am looking for a 5 inch square of paper, behind the panel The other one was changed out by the hider; I couldn't do much w/that one - btwn it getting dark and a herd of teen muggles, I couldn't look at much. Both of these are still in play, the last one is above my head if I read the hint right. I"m gonna go for some easier ones near work today, I can't g/c @ home til Sunday. Thx!
  9. Good luck !!! Thx zombie, it didn't work unfortunately. I didn't go for the one closest to home, but still tanked on 2 others that were close. I'm thinking of asking if these 2 were muggled. I even took google maps screenshots w/me for these LOL

  11. Hi Biblelots Have you looked up the waypoints in your area? If you go to Waymarking.com you can find waypoints which are easily findable even without a GPS (both buildings and plaque markers). The website gives the coordinates of the waymark and I know for here in London Ontario there are MANY that are easily recognizable from photos so they are nothing to find. This would let you know how close you are if you compair the coordinates on your unit compaired to the website. Anita I haven't tried that yet. The cache near my house I have seen approximately where it should be thru google maps, but there's a lot of brush and things. Admittedly I am a rank amateur so I am suffering. Even w/the pics on google this cache is eluding me so far. Well I tried waypoints but haven't quite got the hang of it yet. I found my 1st cache today using google earth so that seems to be the best way for me at least. Now I have to set that up on the home computer so I can find this elusive cache, hopefully tonight! Wish me luck kiddies

  14. My 1st cache, the 1 closest to my house, I think I have gotten within 10-20 feet. I looked at all the available info here and on the google maps. The problem w/this cache is there are tons of places a little cache could be. Another problem is my basic inability to find things in general. So far I am zero for 2 in my cache finding LOL. The 2nd cache is right in the middle of an industrial park, and I don't think it could be much easier. Thx for the tips!!! Guess I keep poking about til they turn up.
  15. Okay, I've just started geocaching and am having a spot of trouble. I'm more than willing to blame it on operator error but I'm not sure how to fix it, or what exactly is wrong. I'm using a PDA w/a GPS compactflash card and PocketMap Navigator software. I seem to get close but my hubby tells me the software/hardware combo is accurate within 10 feet. The PDA gets the coordinates close to right - I think - but I am still not sure I am in the right place. I am seriously confused. I am trying to find a way to confirm how close to *right* I am but not sure how. Can anybody help me out here?
  16. so far I am trying to get to caches within short walking distances from the house, since gas is up to and over $4.50/gal here in The OC. That and I am not that well armed electronic gadget-wise yet LOL I guess I will have to learn how the GPS function on my blackberry works, but I think all I get is a street map if I don't pay for the service. Thx El Diablo!
  17. So is anybody else trying to geo-cache with a set up similar to this? Here's more details on my equipment: Dell Axim Pocket PC PDA - only sometimes communicates w/my Mac, but thats another story Ambicom GPS Navigation Receiver CompactFlash Card, with a very long sensor cord/array PocketMap Navigator software - I've got the latest version available and learned it likes coordinates in Decimal Degrees yesterday, although I've been using this all for years. So far I can enter coordinates and waypoints and all that good stuff - the GPS card/software have been in use for ages. So if I can get to Dwntn LA from the wilds of The OC with this setup, I should be able to find an altoid tin at the top of a hill - right? Or not, you all need to tell me. Thx for helping blond newbies! They do require extra care.
  18. Altho my 1st attempt was yesterday and I by default live less than .2 miles away from at least 1 cache and less than 1.5 miles from at least 2 others I was not able to find anything. That process taught me a few things: If you want to take a 4-legged companion, they need to be able to go as far and as fast as you do, without causing you bodily injury along the way to the cache or on the way back home. The best coordinates in the world will not be able to be found using a GPS or PDA whose batteries - main, back and/or spares are dead {yup found that out the hard way} IF you have just added geo-cacheing to your already huge list of internet-assisted hobbies, you do not want to take any more time explaining this new obsession to your spouse or partner than it takes for them to roll their eyes, shake their heads and walk away. This will probably take no time at all, it took me less than a minute! Whether you find anything or not, it will probably take longer to prepare to leave your domicile than it will to find any number of caches. Did I mention I got all of 200 feet from the end of my cul-de-sac? I learned soo much in that time.
