  1. Absolutely nothing wrong with that definition...I think it fits quite well actually. I couldn't post a poll so there really is no limit on what it can be called.
  2. just examples. one hunts mushrooms the way one hunts other wild foods. if i like you i might bring you some of my black trumpets, but i will not tell you where the patch is. truth? hobbies? yes, i hunt mushrooms, bake bread, study old english, and ride bikes. games i like? assorted computer and board games. sheepshead, dominoes. although i haven't played in a while, i am a vicious pokemon player. sports? i am a two-time champion road bike time trialist, and a two-time state champion cross-country mountain biker. i dabble in cyclocross, 'coz it's sick. i ski cross-country and downhill, and i hold the all-time record for "most consecutive last place finishes" in a well-known local weekly running series. in a triathlon i'm a reasonably good swimmer, but a sucky runner, so i don't place all that well. i own two kayaks and a whitewater raft. in my spare time i make art and music; i am a classically trained composer and precious little singer-songwriter. i have been struck by lightning, run over by a dodge durango, fallen off a forty foot a-frame extension ladder, and i've been transported by ambulance so much i've lost count. i can tell a passacaglia from a chaconne, i know how to use a semi-colon and can identify the song of a brown thrasher. i distrust government and yet am on a first-name basis with several members of the legislature. i never identify myself when i go to vote; they know who i am. i pick up hitchhikers and carry a bag of clean, dry socks in case somebody needs them. during the months of may and october i leave my home and go on peregrination, which is like pilgrimage without a fixed destination. i wander aimlessly for four weeks, stopping at fixed intervals for prayer. while on the road i go to church wherever i happen to be, and i try to get there early enough to sing in the choir. i can carry either of the inner voices and i read well, which makes me a utility singer. i'm right handed, left eye dominant, and ambipedal. i am a natural redhead. i wear bifocals and have poor depth perception. when i get a haircut, it's usually a buzz cut. i do not own a hairbrush or a comb. i've read all of shakespeare, but my favorite play is cyrano de bergerac, which i read in french. i like tom waits, laurie anderson, and the north texas wind symphony. i have brain damage and often don't know where i am. i have trouble remembering nouns. i have twice been in long-term relationships with people i met through the personals. i pioneered the sports of the potato-peeling biathlon and the eleven-legged race and have received an award for "most uncontrollable laughter". even with all that, i'm probably still not the weirdest person you've ever met. Wow...uh, ok. No, you take the cake. I promise. BTW, you didnt tell me your favorite color, lol.
  3. 1. How does one "hunt" mushrooms.... 2. People still play tomb raider?...and geocaching seems a bit out of place in that list IMO 3. flag football....really? I'm not sure if you arbitrarily picked these, or if these actually describe you, but if they do, you are the weirdest guy I've ever met, lol.
  4. What's wrong with the Etrex Legend?? I've never had a problem with mine hiking...only recently have I started getting serious about GC'ing and it's worked great.... although that 60CSx does look cool....
  5. Yup. Done ALL of those and I've only found 13 caches so far, lol...
  6. I didnt see any on the front couple of pages, so I thought I'd ask.
  7. Ok, the last post just made it even more confusing, LOL. I don't know....I just don't consider something I can do at a leisurely pace, with my 5 year old and wife in tow...and can do while in the car...a SPORT.... I don't consider fishing a sport either though.. Just cause you buy it in the "sporting goods" section does not make it a sport...deer hunting is certainly not a sport IMO...
  8. Well, I don't know how much physical prowess fishing or geocaching takes honestly...but I see your point. I DID find this in another thread that gives probably the best description of what this is... apparently it's not a sport, hobby, or game....it's a religion
  9. Many people refer to this as a sport, but I can't say that I agree with that...at least not yet. I would like to get input from members here as to what you view this as. Even if you have over 1000 caches, I could see it being a game Even if you are a hardcore hiker (I LOVE to backpack/hike and do it a LOT), I don't know that this "portion" of a hike could be a sport, EVEN if you consider hiking a sport... I see it more as a hobby. This is something that I do when I get the chance, for fun, and I don't get too competitive with it (those who do could argue for the game designation). so, vote, and give your opinions. EDIT: So...this site doesn't let you creat polls ...ok, then just post up what you think it is and maybe I'll keep a running tally,
  10. I'm really glad the people who introduced me to geocaching are not like many of the people in this thread.... I guess having a HOBBY that many people don't know about/etc gives a lot of you an elitist attitude about it. My two cents as a relatively new cacher is come down off your high horse and listen to some of the new people. Fresh ideas keep the whole hobby fresh. to the OP, I would disregard the obviously rude and unhelpful inupt in this thread, sometimes being part of a small group "empowers" some people and they become prideful of it. Go about caching as you see fit, and follow the established rules as best you can.
  11. Sweet, I'll probably pass it on, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. thanks for the answers...
  12. It's been dropped, pictures taken and they were attached to the log I made. I hope whoever's this is is happy it has come back from the dead.
  13. I have less than 20 caches so far, and found my first geocoin...or so I thought until I got back to he car and realized it was a pin with no tracking #...is this something that is just meant to go cache to cache, or something that is meant to be kept?? I see no way to log this other than just mentioning it in the log...again, no tracking #... help...
  14. I like the idea of a combo lock on a final part of a multi-cache... Many a time have I found a multi just to be disappointed in the SWAG or lack thereof after finding it...(especially one that is 2-3 hours long)

  16. Each cache is individually owned. The owner can decorate how they see fit subject only to the law as it relates. That most cachers don't just isn't a rule. It's just how it worked out. I understand whose property it is ....I was trying to make a suggestion as to how this problem could be solved...
  17. Sometimes people drop the hobby for a while for whatever reason.... Sometimes people lose the TB while they have dropped the hobby... Sometimes people find the TB and it reignites the hobby for them... Sometimes those people replace the TB the very next time they go out....like I am doing tonight. Never give up hope!!
  18. That's a good idea....maybe that will appease the gods a bit!!, lol.
  19. I haven't come across many caches, but the ones I have seen haven't had anything "personal" on the outside. Maybe you could make up a logsheet with the design on it if you wanted it to be seen by everyone who found it...
  20. It obviously wasn't a 'waste' to them. If it's so important to you and your boys to have a box to open and McCrap to find, then carry an ammo can with you and when you find a micro, pull out your box and give them a treat. Way to completely miss her point.
  21. I have a travel bug that I've had about a year now due to moving/it being lost/etc and have not been cacheing in a LONG while but am starting again this spring/summer. This is a bug that is logged in on gc.com, and it shows I am the last person to have it. I have emailed the owner and left a note on the bug stating what has ocurred/etc. and plan to place it at the next cache I find (possibly tonight). I know I have not exercised proper etiquette here, is there anything additional I can do to make this situation better??
