  1. One variation is to specify coords of a recognizable object, natural or unnatural (e.g. URP), in some relatively open area, and provide distance and bearing of one or more legs to the cache location from the object. We've done one of these and found it a nice change.
  2. GpsWarn looks to be a very nice utility. It didn't support version 2.29c beta version I was using on my Vista so I used XVI32 byte editor to replace the characters in the warning message of the .RGN file. It was fairly easy to do. I searched for WARNING and then noted the address range of the message to make sure I did not insert or remove any additional characters. I then replaced the characters with my info using the linefeed characters (0Ah) between lines, saved the file, and reloaded the .RGN file using the UPDATER.EXE. I wouldn't suggest doing this unless you know what you are doing!

  4. I believe I did see the Summit name on the units, plus the compass arrow looked like that of the lower resolution etrex line. The Vista and Legend have a higher resolution screen and sharper arrow, compass, etc. So that was tape on the unit? It threw me off too.

  6. Our longest was hiking Where's that Maple? We were doing our annual visit to watch the color change of the maples. It took us about 5.8 hours going the "scenic route" to get to the cache site. Roundtrip was 10 miles in 6 1/4 hours. We were beat at the end of the day!
